North Coast Athletics

On Friday the 2nd of September 6 of our students

travelled to Coffs Harbour to compete in the North

Coast PSSA Athletics Championships. To make it to

this level is a fantastic achievement. It is a

showcase of the best athletes from the Tweed

border all the way down to Kempsey, which

incorporates hundreds of schools.

Our students had a very successful day.

Jordan Scott competed in the Jnr Boys Discus.

Tabitha Ford finished 11th in the 100m and 12th in

the 200m.

Our Jnr Boys Relay (Toby Shapland, Randeep

Atwal, Dempsey Van Egdom and Xane Bowen)

finished 4th. There was a technical issue that may

allow our relay team to compete at the State

Championships, a decision is still pending, fingers

crossed.

Imogen Scott Placed 2nd in the 11 years discus.

Toby Shapland finished 1st in the Junior Discus and

9th in the 200m.

Congratulation to all our students who were

successful in competing at this carnival. And a big

congratulations to Toby and Imogen who are off

to the State Championships in Sydney next term.

Well done and good luck!

District Finals Public Speaking

Congratulations to Britta on her fabulous

achievement at the District Final of Public

Speaking with being awarded 3rd place. We are

immensely proud of you and your efforts. Toby

was a stand out in his semi -final with a confident

delivery and represented East in the final 8.

Amon’s delivery in the semi - final was strong but

unfortunately did not make it to the next round. A

wonderful year of public speaking, well done

everyone!

1R Special Visitor - Mr Kaszo

Year 1 and 2 have been reading lots of books

about sea creatures. To compliment our sea

theme, we were fortunate to have Mr Kaszo come

and speak to Stage 1 about his amazing career as

an underwater photographer/video producer.

This is Sebastian Jordon’s recount of Mr Kaszo’s visit

to our school:

On Wednesday the 7th of September, 2016, Isabelle

and Jack Peter’s grandfather, Mr Attila Kaszo came

and spoke to us in the morning. He answered

questions all about sea creatures and the ocean.

He is a photojournalist and video producer. He uses

an underwater camera to take all the photos that

he has taken.

They all are really cool, but my favourite picture is

the Great White Shark picture. The Great White

Shark pictures were the coolest out of all the other

photos, but he has taken a lot of photos. All togeth-

er there were photos of fish, sharks, turtles, jellyfish,

sea dragons, squid, octopus, whales and coral, and

even turtles gliding through the ocean. The sea tur-

tles are really cute as they have

beautiful patterns on their shells that they are born

with. Mr Kaszo has seen lots of stingrays and has

photos of stingrays. Did you know that clown fish

live in really big anemones?

All sea creatures are really important animals.

Last Thursday, 3 teams of 4 competitors from Years

5 and 6 represented our school at the Wollumbin

problem solving and hands on maths activities.

Our school had won this competition in previous

years and we were keen to regain the title.

And WE DID!!!

Congratulations to our 2016 Maths Olympiad

Champions… Nick, Ben, Lily and Jack. It was a nail

biting finish and we took the title by one point. We

also managed a 4th place, a fantastic

students that participated should be commended

on their efforts, they represented our school with

distinction.

Band News

Hello to the MEPS school community! I have

sincerely enjoyed my time teaching the students

here and involving them playing as a band. I will

be finishing up at the end of this term to take

another position at a school in Ballina. I will

remember this school dearly as the first school

where I taught everything - flute, clarinet, sax,

trumpet, trombone and drums! Thanks to Mrs

Brooks for her invitation, and now I hand the baton

over to Mr Keogh – please make him feel welcome!

I believe the band will soar to new heights under his

leadership and musical gifting. I hope to be able to

come and watch the band perform sometime in

the future. All the best for the future, with love.

From Sonya Lopes.

MEPS Garden Group

We will be having our final plant sale for 2016 on

Tuesday 20th September from 8.30am in our MEPS

Patch. Save the date!
