Goals as a Filipino Teacher: To be a good exemplar to my students

Dr. Jose Rizal, our National Hero, said that youth is the hope of our nation so the future

is in the hands of teachers who shape the minds and hearts of youth. As a Filipino

teacher, I must be a good model to my students. I must live with what I say. I must

follow the rules and regulations of our country. I shall pay my taxes on time. And lastly,

I must jive myself with the aims of the nation which is found in the Philippine

Constitution of 1987. I must have the value of patriotism, love of humanity, respect for

human rights, appreciate our national hero, know my rights and duties as citizen, etc.

Are great teachers born or made? That is the question that keeps bugging me for a while. I am

Sandra Sarmiento Espartero, a lineage from a family of teachers. Both my father and mother are having

teachers in their family but it is I who make the decision whether I like to be a teacher or not. A person

maybe born with all the qualities of a teacher but enrolls to non-education course, will be useless for he

is wasting those inborn qualities. On the other hand, a person may be born with no qualities of a

teacher but is willing to do everything for teaching is in the right tract. Having the knowledge, skills and

abilities are important to a teacher but without the passion for it, it would mean nothing. Therefore,

    teachers are made not born.

Now that personally choose to be a teacher, the question is, what kind of teacher who I want tobe and how can I be that teacher? Personally, I believe in the saying you cannot give what you dont

have. As a teacher, I must possess not only the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values but also the

passion for teaching. For this to happen, I must study my lessons, take seminars, trainings and

workshop, and reflect on my deeds and actions.

Professionally, I idolize teachers who achieve peace within themselves. They are the one who

studies their lessons, widens their horizons thru trainings, seminars and workshops and upgrade

themselves thru advancing themselves to the next level of their education. They are the ones who

provide students quality education because they are equipped.

And finally as a Filipino teacher, I want to be a good exemplar to my students whether it is in the

school or in the community. I want to practice what I teach. It is absurd to say, Class, honesty is the

best policy so no cheating okay, when I cheat my own income tax return. Another is, I cannot give

what I dont have so I must observe the Philippine Constitution of 1987 in myself. And I should also

follow the nations rules and regulations so that students can follow my example in our school.

This is my vision and mission, and goals and objectives of education.

I like to be a teacher when I was young but as I grow up, things changed. From being a

teacher, I switch into being a veterinarian or a businesswoman. Even though I like animals and

businesses, my mom enrolled me in Education. At first I dont hate it nor love it but now I like it. I am

more motivated to pursue this career than before. But then I do left behind from others. I lack some of

the skills needed to be a teacher. A teacher must not only possess knowledge but also the heart and

skills. I know I am far behind so
