Tomatoes are very versatile and a well known staple in Myrtleford. Basil is the perfect companion. Many

households are buzzing with busy weekends of family making passata, sugo or sauce depending on where

your origins are from. Drying and semi-drying tomatoes is also a great way of preserving this wonderful

fruit often referred to as vegetable

Tomatoes will be highlighted in this months cooking demonstration in the Church Hall from 10.30a.m –

Patrizia Simone can demonstrate 100’s of ways of using tomatoes but we will wait & see what her creation

will be in her masterclass this month.

PARTICIPANTS WANTED !

The bi-yearly 'Living Chess Match' will be pre-sented by the community for the community again at Myrtleford's La Fiera festival in May.

We have a new director, Vicky McGowan. An experienced lady in theatre & drama teacher at

Marian College here in Myrtleford.

Our Godfather Noel Stone, founder of the Chess match has handed over the reins after directing the match for over 10 years. We will miss you Noel. Thank you for your years of dedication. You have done a great favour for La Fiera and Myrtleford. You must be very proud of how La Fiera and the reputation of the Chess match has grown.

On behalf of our community. Well done!

Anyone is welcome to participate. You don't have to be an actor, none of us are. Mostly it's dressing up in 17th century costume and sitting to watch the match. Just as they would have in 17th century Marostica, Italy. That's where our Chess match originated. It pretty much follows the legend of two young men who fell in Love with the Lord's eldest daughter. The lord has them play a chess match rather than fight a duel to the death. Naturally the winner gets the girl. Village folk played the parts of the chess

pieces. Hence 'The Living Chess Match'
