Application

Application
Safety systems are comprised of many components. No one safetycomponent will insure the safety of the system. The design of thecomplete safety system should be considered before you begin. It isvery important to follow applicable safety standards when installing andwiring these components.
The module XPS-AK provides interruption of one or several circuits andis designed to be integrated into the following applications:
• Monitoring of emergency stop circuits.
• Monitoring of limit switches on protective guards.
• Monitoring of short-circuit generating footmats or pressure sensitiverails.
• Monitoring the OSSD of type 4 safety lightcurtains withsemiconductor outputs according to EN 61496-1.
The module provides three safety outputs of stop category 0(EN 418, EN 60204-1) as well as one NC contact and foursemiconductor outputs for signalling purposes.
The module is designed for use with one or two input channels. Due to
the extended possibilities of fault detection and resulting increasedsafety level we recommend the use of two input channels. In thisoperation mode the connection cables are included in the monitoring andall initial faults will be detected.
For information about wiring diagrams as well as the functional diagramsfor each individual safety function please refer to page 3/10 - 8/10.
An internal electronic fuse protects the module against destruction byexternal short circuits (e. g., short circuits between the + and the - of theinput circuits). After elimination of the fault, the module is again operativeafter a few seconds.
It is imperative that an external fuse be connected as shown on the"WIRING DIAGRAM FOR MODULE XPS-AK SAFETY RELAY". Formaximum protection of the outputs, please refer to "TECHNICAL DATA".
Note
There are no user serviceable components in the module. For safetycircuits according to EN 60204-1 / EN418 safety devices must use onlythe hard contact outputs between terminals 13-14, 23-24 and 33-34.
