We wear different clothes on different occasions. Clothes protect us from heat, rain, cold and insect bites. How are clothes made? Clothes are made from fibres. Some fibres are natural whereas some are artificial. Animals and birds have thick skin, fur and feathers to protect themselves. Natural Fibres (Plants) Cotton We get cotton from cotton plant. Cotton clothes absorb the sweat easily and keep our body cool in summer. Hemp Hemp fibres are used to make ropes and sack cloth which is thick and coarse. RUBBER We get rubber from rubber plants. It is used for making gumboots and raincoats during rainy season. Canvas It is a cloth material used to make tents, shoes and bags. Clothes We WearNEED OF CLOTHES

Clothes are one of the basic needs of man. We wear different clothes on different occasions. Clothes protect us from heat, rain, cold and insect bites.

How are clothes made?

Clothes are made from fibres. Some fibres are natural whereas some are artificial. Animals and birds

have thick skin, fur and feathersto protect themselves.

Natural Fibres (Plants)

Cotton

We get cotton from cotton plant. Cotton clothes absorb the sweat easily and keep our body cool in summer.

Wool

Wool is the soft, thick hair of sheep. It is used to make sweaters, blankets and they keep warm during winter season.

Silk

Silk is obtained from silkworm. Silk cloth is fine, smooth and shiny.

Leather

We get leather from skin of dead animals. It is used to make belts, jackets and shoes.

The silk threads are obtained from cocoon and the production of

silk is called Sericulture.

We use clothes made from fabrics such as nylon, rayon and polyester.

They are light in weight and easy to clean.
