YOU NEED A PERMIT FOR THATIf you are a home or building owner in Nassau Bay working on or considering remodeling, constructing, or changing anything on your property, you need to know the City's permit requirements.

The City's permitting requirements are based on industry standards and the International Building Codes. A building permit is required to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, improve, remove, convert, or demolish any building or structure within the city.

If the owner is hiring a contractor to perform this work, the contractor will typically submit the permit application to the City. Ultimately, the owner is responsible for securing and correctly displaying all required permits before any work begins. So all home and building owners should be aware of the permit requirements and should request a copy of the permit from the contractor.

Where do I get the building permit application?www.nassaubay.com/buildingpermit

How much will it cost? Minimum fee is $25 and the max is based on the specific job valuation.

How long does it take? Once the permit application is submitted to the City, the Building Official will review and approve or request additional information. Depending on the type of permit, it could be issued immediately or can take 5-7 business days. It is important to note that some permits require your HOA approval.

Why do I need a permit?•Helps Protect Property Value• Improves Safety•Required by City

Examples that require a permit:•Home Renovations - Installing New Cabinets,

Counter Tops, Plumbing or Electrical Fixtures, Windows, Etc.

•Residential Additions - Patio Cover, Storage Shed (larger than 120sq.ft. or on a Foundation), Room Additions, Etc.

•Re-Roofing (if over 100sq.ft.) •Storage Buildings•Heating and Air Conditioning Replacement•Structural Changes•Bulkhead Repair

If you have any questions about permits, please call 281.333.2944.

WATER CONSERVATIONDuring hot and dry months it is important to practice water conservation. These conservation tips are also good to use year-round in an effort to waste less water.

•Fix leaky faucets and toilets.

• Install aerators to cut in half the amount of water used by each faucet.

• Install a water-efficient shower head.•Take shorter showers.•Replace older toilets with water-efficient models.•Water your yard thoroughly, but only as needed -

usually no more than one inch, once a week.•Water lawns in the early morning or late evening.•Position sprinklers so that they are not watering

driveways and walkways.•Use drip irrigation for plants and gardens, and

water early in the morning to minimize evaporation.•Collect and use rainwater for lawn and garden.•Wash only full loads of laundry. • Invest in Energy Star-qualified clothes washer.

PUBLIC WORKSWater line breaks are a common problem for most cities during the dry, summer heat in Texas. Due to aging infrastructure and dry grounds that cause shifting soils, the summer months can take a toll on the lines.

The Public Works Department is continuously monitoring the lines and when leaks are detect-ed, they make repairs as quickly as possible. This can result in a brief water outage while repairs are being made. All efforts are made to contact resi-dents or businesses that will be affected. To en-sure that you receive these notifications, please make sure you have signed up for these alerts at www.nassaubay.com/alerts.

Nassau Bay has approximately 84,480 feet (16 miles) of water line. The City's Capital Improvement Projects include a budget of $150,000 each year which allows us to replace approximately 1,000 feet of water lines and hy-drants. Another $25,000 is budgeted for emergency water line repairs and fire hydrant maintenance.

If you notice a water leak or have questions on ones we are working on, please call Public Works at 281.333.2944.
