Lise Martin-Keilty NFS 2030Teacher, George Street Middle School

As teachers, we have a huge impact on the future of our students and the world they live in. Developing global citizenship is an essential skill for students and rewarding teaching experience. However, some may wonder what exactly is ‘global citizenship’? How can we encourage students to be active global citizens and instill a desire to make a positive change in the world? This may seem a daunting task, yet it can be relatively easy. I will take you through our journey at George Street Middle School and how our humanitarian club “Global George” has taken hold of the motto “BE the Change” and are working hard to make the world a better place.

C-06 Keeping Kids Accountable in Math ClassDwayne Melanson NFS 2012Teacher, Princess Elizabeth School

Keeping Kids Accountable in Math Class is a concept that I have developed over the past 2 to 3 years. I will go over a “Math Circuit Sheet” that I developed and use to create independence and accountability for the students I teach, as well as go over some examples of how I collect data through formative assessments and group conversations/observations. I will also briefly discuss Triangulation of Data and how I use it to collect data for the new report cards. I believe that Teaching Math is equal to: Innovation Imagination X Organization divided by Determination and that is what I try to establish in my Math class everyday. Participants should bring a pencil, paper and a thumb drive.
