We are ministry leaders in catechesis and evangelization, who at some point in our lives Encountered God through Scripture. Now we want to share that love of God with others. We, as believers and leaders, Encountered a profound Joy in the Gospel! We want others to also encounter that Joy, a Joy that makes all things possible through Christ! As we Encounter that Joy of the Gospel during this conference, we will examine the culture we now live in and the many methods that are available to us – from the arts, to modern technology, to simply living as persons of joy – as we guide others to Encounter the Joy of the Gospel! Selection 2: Encourage Parents to Bring the Faith Alive At Home by Denise Utter, National Speaker and Consultant for OSV; Director of Faith Formation at St. Jude Parish in New Lenox, IL

Encourage: to inspire with courage, spirit, or confidence; to promote, advance or foster. Isn’t that what we want for our families? Parents who have the courage, spirit and confidence to not just raise their children in the Catholic faith, but live their faith boldly, in the home, in the parish and in the community. How do we inspire such courage, spirit, and confidence?

This workshop will focus on accompanying families on their faith journey beginning at baptism, providing support systems for families in those early years, and establishing peer networks at every age. We’ll also look at how we can provide opportunities for families to encounter Christ in the community, and how we can help parents integrate faith into their daily lives at home, in their stories, in our Catholic tradition, and in our signs and symbols.

2015 FCH Pre-Conference: Registration Fee $50Sunday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

FCH Pre-conference: Effective Catechesis with U.S. born Hispanic YouthThe latest statistics show that the majority of Hispanic Catholic youth are U.S.-born, meaning from the second generation and beyond. For the most part, U.S.-born Latino youth are not as committed to parish life and Catholic faith traditions as their own immigrant parents and their first-generation peers. This workshop will employ the See – Judge – Act methodology to explore the reasons for this breakdown in the transmission of the faith, producing new insights and identifying effective practices for catechesis in pastoral context. Topics include:

• What is needed to effectively reach out to U.S.-born Hispanic young people? • What role does sacramental and systematic life-long catechesis have in supporting U.S.-born Hispanic youth? • What practical resources and strategies are available to reach and equip Hispanic families, parish communities, and dioceses to effectively catechize and minister to U.S.-born Hispanic youth? • How do we harmoniously connect the three realities: first, second, and third generation?

Presented by Lynette Saenz, Director of Cultural Diversity, Diocese of Rochester NY and Ken Johnson-Mondragón, Director of Research and Publications, Instituto Fe y Vida.
