What is Keratin ?

Keratin is a type of protein high in the amino acid “Cystine.” This special amino acid is what makes hair

super tough and extremely elastic. Scientists refer to Keratin as a “Biopolymer,” due to its unique

structures and interesting properties. Biopolymers are found throughout nature and give form and

structure to naturally occurring substances all around the world; everything from leaves to trees, and

turtle shells to goose down. Keratin is a classic example of a Biopolymer and it is the main structure

building protein in our hair and nails.

How Does It Work?

When it comes to keratin, it’s extreme toughness is the key. Keratin’s durability and strength protect

and improve the hair both inside and out. Our unique biopolymer ingredient is virtually a “liquid form of

hair” that gently blends with the hair on your head to help restore what has been lost over time and

through environmental stresses.

What’s the unique benefit to this ingredient? The small size of the Keratin Biopolymer molecules

penetrate under the hair’s cuticle and seep into the inner hair shaft, helping to improve the quality of the

hair from the inside. The Keratin fills in the gaps between the cuticle and the inner hair shaft and

becomes sealed into the hair’s inner structure by the high heat flat iron. As you will soon learn, the

Keratin Biopolymer works with other ingredients in the product to help eliminate the frizz and add

strength and elasticity.

NEO KERATIN TREATMENT® PROCESS

Before preparing your client to begin the process, ask if they have any allergies. Inform the client that the product contains formaldehyde (as a preservative).It is also important to inform them that the Chocolate Extreme De-Frizzing formula contains essential oil. Do NOT do the Treatment on a client that is pregnant or breast feeding.

STEP 1

Prepare your client for a shampoo. Place a shampoo cape and a towel around your

client’s neck. Wash the hair twice with a clarifying shampoo. Our Neo Keratin clarifying Shampoo will suit for it as it is sodium and sulfate free.

When doing the Treatment on virgin hair (not previously colored or chemically processed), we recommend doing 3 thorough shampoos with a mixture of equal parts

pre-treatment shampoo and 20 volume peroxide to help the hair become more porous, enabling it to better absorb the product.

STEP 2

Sit your client in the chair and begin drying the hair without combing or brushing. You

can dry free style until you see and feel that the hair is 100% dry. It is very important for

the hair to be completely dry and free of moisture before applying the product.

STEP 3

In this step, you will apply a minimum of 3 ounces of product for the treatment of average sized hair (Adjust amount according to the length and amount of hair.)

Wearing gloves, shake the bottle well and pour the product into a bowl. Section the hair into 4 sections with a medium tooth comb. Starting from the nape, carefully apply the

product so as to avoid any contact with skin or eyes. Apply the product about 1/2 inch

away from the scalp and comb down the hair shaft. Make 1 inch sections and apply the product with a brush as if you were applying a color.

Brush and then comb the hair. Finish the back and then do the sides last. Do not over

saturate the hair with product because that will only be a waste of product. Warning: Use of less than the minimum required amount of product may result in hair

damage by flat iron.

STEP 4

You will need a blow dryer and a mask (optional) for you and your client for this step. It is very important to set the blow dryer to medium heat or cold. Do NOT use high heat for

this step. Using a vent brush, begin at the nape and blow dry the product onto the hair,

working your way up and through the sides until the entire head is dry. Always point the dryer away from your client’s face to avoid any odor or fumes going directly at them.

During this step, you do not have to focus on straightening the hair, only on drying the

product onto the hair. Dry the hair 100%.

STEP 5

Remove your gloves and the cape from your client. You will need a flat iron that will reach a temperature of 450°F (critical to the process), a small tooth flat iron, a fine tooth

comb, and a style cape. After you prepare your client for this step, make sure both you and your client are still wearing masks (optional), and put ear protectors on your client’s

ears. Part the hair into 3 or 4 large sections. You are now ready to begin straightening

the hair. Starting from the nape area, make a 1 1/2 inch section. Use the small tooth iron at the hair line and then use the 450°F flat iron. To finish up, you can go over each

section until you see the shine and smoothness desired. Do not worry if you have to go

over the same section 5, 6, or even 10 times. Assuming that you have applied the

correct minimum amount of product (see step 3), you will not damage or burn the hair because NEO® contains a thermal protector.

Always ask your client how they like their hair to be styled, (straight, or slightly under), which way they like it to be parted, if they want bangs, etc. Finish the back and

then do the sides and you are done.

YOU MUST ADVISE YOUR CLIENT NOT TO WASH THEIR HAIR FOR 4 FULL DAYS

AFTER THE TREATMENT

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BASIC NEO KERATIN

TREATMENT® and the EXTREME DE-FRIZZING TREATMENT

and WHICH PRODUCT TO USE? The Extreme De-Frizzing Treatment, shall be used for deep or tight curly hair.

In addition to keratin, the Cocoa Extreme De-Frizzing Treatment contains an Essential Amino Acid Blend of eleven other proteins, cocoa butter, mineral oil, flax seed oil protein,

and various essential oils.

If your client has very course, ethnic type hair, or has extremely tight curls, the Extreme

De-Frizzing formula will produce a more dramatic result than the original formula. The only active ingredients that contribute to the difference in results are the Essential Amino Acid Blend and the various oils, which make the formula heavier, weighing the hair down,

creating a straighter result.

If you have a client with curly hair that does not want to lose their curl, but just get rid of

the frizz, use the original formula, and have them shampoo on the second day, instead of waiting 4 days. If they do this, make sure that you emphasize to them that the results

will last 2 months at the most because the cuticle will not have had enough time to hold

the seal.

If your client has more Caucasian or Asian type hair, use the original formula. If you use

the Extreme De Frizzing, the results may be too flat, lacking in any amount of body or bounce. Stick with the original formula for clients with these types of hair. You, as the

Professional Stylist will have to use your knowledge and experience to decide which

product will be the best choice for each individual client.

COLOR, HIGHLIGHTS AND THE NEO KERATIN TREATMENT®

If your client wants color or highlights, you should do them BEFORE you do the Neo

Keratin Treatment®. Doing color or highlights before it will prolong the color because when you use the 450°F flat iron to crystallize the product onto the hair, you will be

sealing the cuticle. For the same reason, you should wait at least 2 to 3 weeks after

doing the Neo Keratin Treatment® because the cuticle will not be porous enough to absorb the color.

FOR PERMANENT COLOR OR HIGHLIGHTS: Apply permanent color or highlights as you normally would. When it’s time to shampoo,

use the clarifying/pre-treatment shampoo, then do the Neo Keratin Treatment®.

FOR SEMI-PERMANENT COLOR:

Because semi-permanent color only deposits color on the outside of the cuticle, do the clarifying/pre-treatment shampoo first, apply the semi-permanent color second, rinse the

color out with water only, then do the Neo Keratin Treatment®. Once again, if your client wants color or highlights AFTER doing the treatment, you MUST wait at least 2 to 3 weeks in order for the cuticle to open up enough to absorb the color.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CUT YOUR CLIENT’S HAIR? You should always wait until after you have finished doing the Neo Keratin Treatment®

to cut your client’s hair. You will be able to cut off any dead ends, while avoiding cutting

off too much. You now how clients are when you cut off too much hair!!

DO'S (Before Shampoo)

1. DO wear hair down all the time.

2. DO use a blow dryer if the hair becomes wet during the initial three or four day

three or four day development period.

DO'S (After Shampoo)

1. DO use shampoos and conditioners that are sodium chloride and sulfate free;

DONT'S (Before Shampoo)

1. DON'T wash the hair for three or four days so that the treatment can develop

fully.

2. DON'T tie the hair into a pony tail or braid. Either can create unwanted dents, waves or curls. 3. DON'T use hair clips, hair bands or bobby pins, since these can affect the

straightness of the hair. 4. DON'T sweat excessively. Avoid working out and/or swimming during the three

or four day development period. 5. DON'T put your hair behind your ears or use glasses to

hold it back.

1. Can I perform this treatment over Japanese straightening?

Yes, you can perform this treatment over any kind of previously straightened hair, as long as the scalp

and hair are healthy enough to receive professional salon services.

2. Is this treatment a relaxer? No, chemical relaxers swell and soften the hair shaft which can cause damage. This treatment does not

swell and soften the hair shaft.

3. Can I perform this treatment after coloring the hair? Yes, this treatment should be performed AFTER coloring the hair.

4. Can I color the hair after the treatment?

Yes, but we recommend to do the color first. Always wait at least 2 to 3 weeks to do the color if you have

this treatment done first.

5. Can I perform the treatment over previously relaxed hair?

Yes, the treatment can be applied to any previously relaxed hair, as long as the scalp and hair are

healthy enough to receive professional salon services.

6. Can I perform this treatment on previously chemically treated hair?

Yes, this treatment can be performed on any chemically treated hair, as long as the scalp and hair are

healthy enough to receive professional salon services.

7. Can I perform this treatment on highlighted hair?

Yes, this treatment can be applied on previously highlighted hair, as long as the scalp and hair are

healthy enough to receive professional salon services.

8. Can I perform the treatment on virgin hair?

Yes, but the results won’t last as long as a treatment performed on previously colored or chemically

treated hair.

9. Can I perform this treatment on teenagers?

Yes, however, we recommend that teenagers under the age of eighteen (18) should produce verifiable

parental consent, preferably in writing.

10. Can I wash my hair after the treatment, and if so when?

Yes, but only after the three or four day development period has passed following the treatment.

11. Can I wear a ponytail or tie my hair up?

No, during the three or four days following the treatment the hair should not be tied up with any bands

or clips.

12. What should I do if my hair gets wet during the first three or four days?

Blow dry the section of hair immediately and/or use a flat iron to re-straighten.

13. Can I go into a swimming pool or the ocean after the treatment?

No, the hair must be kept dry during the entire three or four day development period and the first

shampoo. You will discover that this can affect the longevity of the treatment. To minimize the effects of

salt water and chlorinated pools, you should rinse their hair with fresh water immediately afterward.

14. How long will the results last?

Up to four months on most types of hair.

15. What shampoos should I use after getting the treatment?

It’s best to use our Keratin Biopolymer containing shampoo products since they are specifically

formulated for these types of treatments, and are sodium chloride and sulfate free.

16. Do I have to do touch-ups on my next visit or the whole head?

Do not do touchups. Perform the service on the entire head.

17. When should I repeat the treatment?

Every four months or as needed.

18. Can I do the treatment every month?

Yes, but generally is not a need, except for highly problematic hair.

19. Should I cut my hair before the treatment?

No, cut the hair after the treatment and trim off any overly processed ends.

20. Can I use hair spray, gel, mousse, or any other hair products on my hair during the three or four day period?

No, do not apply any products to your hair during the three or four day development period.

21. I want to keep my curl and eliminate just the frizz, how can I achieve that with the Brazilian Keratin Treatment?

Depending on the texture of the hair, the BKT will minimize the curl pattern any where between 50-80%,

and in many cases up to 100%.

22. How can I keep some volume?

Shampoo the hair after only 2 days instead of waiting 3 or 4.

Please note that results will not last as long and the outcome will vary.

23. Can I do the Brazilian Keratin Treatment if I am Pregnant or Breast Feeding?

The choice to use our product, or any other chemical treatment during pregnancy and nursing is a

personal one. When in doubt, we recommend that you seek the advice of your physician, and allow

ABOUT FORMALDEHYDE (Formula H2CO)

There has been an incredible amount of negative press devoted to perpetuating the alleged dangers of formaldehyde. We do our best to provide facts and reputable sources

of information while encouraging everyone – professionals and end users alike to educate

themselves.

Formaldehyde, has been routinely used for decades in hundreds of products. Some of

them touch your body every day and you don’t even know it. In various compounded forms, formaldehyde is used as a preservative in personal hygiene products because it

kills bacteria. It is used to make other products more effective in terms of foaming action

such as soaps and detergents. These products improve your hygiene and subsequently your health. If you use toothpaste, deodorant, lipstick, make-up, shampoo, dishwashing

liquid, laundry detergent, or any number of other every day products, you are in contact

with formaldehyde over and over again every day.

The very first time you encounter formaldehyde is as a child. You don’t know it, but formaldehyde is the medium in which you receive vaccinations for childhood diseases.

These include diphtheria, polio and influenza, to name a few. The form of formaldehyde used in the NEO Keratin Treatment® is formalin. Formalin is a 37 % (cosmetic grade) solution. It is used strictly as a preservative and is not the active ingredient of the

formula. Without the presence of the formaldehyde, the results would last a maximum

Also in the United States, OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration

determines the limits for the use of various substances in the work place. Formaldehyde in particular, for the purposes of how it is used with products such as

ours, is measured by the PPM (parts per million) in the ambient air when it comes into contact with high heat. The dimensions of the area of use are considered, along with

exposure time and a quantitative measurement of the PPM of formaldehyde in the air is

calculated. The OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) is a time-weighted average of 0.75 ppm. We have submitted numerous samples from different salon and many of some

clients have done so as well. In every case, the results have been below the PEL of 0.75 ppm; typically in the range of 0.40 up to 0.50. So, not only are the results below the maximum limit, but significantly so.

Formaldehyde is camouflaged by many aliases. Several are listed on the following

page. Any one of these substances, along with numerous others, is technically a form of

formaldehyde. Each and every one of them is a derivative of, or a diluted formula of formaldehyde. When measured as described above, they all result in the positive

emission of formaldehyde into the air.

Our training includes instructions for both the stylist and the client to wear a mask if

needed. It is recommended, but optional. We instruct you, the stylist to wear gloves when using the product. Some people are more sensitive than others, but if the process

is done properly, little to no fumes are produced. More sensitive people may get teary

eyed. We suggest that all of you perform a patch test on your clients prior to doing the treatment to ensure no adverse reaction to any of the ingredients.

WHY IS USING OUR PRODUCTS IMPORTANT?

We emphasize safety, comfort and results when educating stylists about our products and how to use them. We have experimented with many different types of tools and

taken all of the guess work out choosing what is best. Take advantage of our experience

and start out with the most effective tools from the beginning.

1. The 450°F FLAT IRON: There

are several brands on the market that claim to go up to 450°F.

Some do and some don’t. Of

those that do, some of them don’t hold the temperature once

it is reached. We use and

recommend the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium. It is our

experience as well as that of many stylists that either of these 2 reaches and holds the necessary temperature, and is comfortable to use based on size and weight.

2. The MINI GLIDE Small Tooth Iron: The Mini Glide is a very narrow flat iron that has teeth. It allows the stylist to get close to the scalp without burning the client, while

smoothing the hair from the root making it easier for the 450°F degree iron to cover the

whole section from the top down. It is also very good to use on new growth and areas that have shorter “baby” hair that the larger, hotter iron can not reach.

3. NEO TAPE: Neo Tape is really useful !! It is a special Teflon coated tape that wraps around the plates of the flat iron. The Neo Tape evenly distributes the heat ensuring no

“hot spots” along the length of each plate. It eliminates marks and helps the iron slide over the hair more easily. Neo Tape makes an INCREDIBLE difference.

4. TITANIUM COMBS: Titanium is a heat resistant metal that can withstand repeated and continuous contact with the high temperature of 450°F. It aids in the process of flat

ironing the hair and will out last combs made of any other material.

5. EAR PROTECTORS: Our silicone Ear Protectors are an absolute must

have when doing the Brazilian Keratin Treatment®. They de exactly what

their name says – they protect the delicate skin of the ears from the high heat of the flat iron. Your clients will appreciate this when their ears don’t

get burned.

6. NEO GRIP: Our Grips are basically Velcro band for your hair. They are to be used by
