B rothers and Sisters in Elkdom, we have near- ly completed 2/3 of the summer. Ugh! I know nobody wants to hear that. You would think that the lodge has been idle, but it has not. The end of summer brings the start of school. I am incredibly happy to announce that the lodge applied for and received two grants totaling: $5500. These grants will ensure that the children at Prudence Crandall will be clothed and ready to go when school starts. A big tip of the antlers to PER Deb Scarlett for setting this up. Another Tip of the Antlers goes to Mary Schmitt and Tom Higgins for assisting with the great Father’s Day Breakfast. Not only did we have breakfast, but the officers performed the Father’s Day Ritual for the very first time. The Trustees pulled off a successful Pig Roast to close off June. Over 90 tickets were sold and a total of $2700 of profit was made that day. In fact, the 50/50 winner netted more than $700 in winnings. Proceeds will be used towards the State Major Projects that is due from last fiscal year. This event should even be more successful next year! The trustees of the lodge continue to brighten the building. If you have not seen the basement hall in a while, you should look at its glimmer once again. The trustees will be working on updating the bathrooms as well as the path by the kitchen. Can you imagine what a few volunteers and some gallons of paint can do to brighten up a room? Speaking of cleaning up, I would be remiss in thanking the Sunday morning cleanup crew of PER Andy Bisi, Kerry Preissel and Robert Hutter. Without your volunteer hours each Sunday, the lodge would struggle to find volunteers to clean the bar area as well as the bathrooms both in the bar and upstairs too. Tip of the antlers to these fine Elks. The Antlers have also scheduled their first fundraiser. They will be hosting a pasta supper on Friday, August 13th from 5 - 8 PM. Tickets are only $10 and will be available behind the bar as well as online. Tickets can also be pur- chased the day of. Please come support our future Elks. I had the honor of representing our lodge at the National Convention in Tampa earlier in July. I was able to meet many fine Elks from as close as Meriden to as far away as San Luis, CA. Please look for a posting in the lodge highlighting what I voted on as a lodge representative as well as informa- tion that I learned too. More is coming in the fall months. Stay tuned for more fun during future events.
