What happens next?After considering all the feedback received, Roads and Maritime will progress with installing new and extended clearways on Hume Highway between Cumberland Highway, Liverpool and Henry Lawson Drive, Villawood.

The new clearway signs and posts will be installed between Saturday 1 December and Sunday 9 December 2018 (weather permitting). Our working hours will be between 8pm and 5am from Monday to Sunday. The new and extended clearways will be operational from Monday 10 December 2018.

BackgroundThe NSW Government announced the Sydney Clearways Strategy as one of its key initiatives to reduce congestion on Sydney’s major roads. $121 million was committed to implementing the strategy and installing new clearways on Sydney’s road network.

Installing new and extended clearways on weekdays and weekends can help reduce congestion in many areas of Sydney by allowing motorists to use all traffic lanes.

Since 2013, we have installed more than 500 kilometres of new and extended clearways across some of Sydney’s busiest road corridors. We are continuing to investigate where new and extended clearways would help ease congestion and provide more reliable travel times for road users across the network. The new clearways on Hume Highway through Warwick Farm will help improve journey times for the 88,000 motorists travelling on this corridor each day, which means less time in traffic and more time doing the things that you enjoy.

How will the work affect you?There will be some noise associated with this work but we will do everything we can to minimise the impact, including completing noisier tasks by 11pm.

During the installation work, there will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe. Lane closures will be in place and may affect travel times. Please keep to speed limits and follow signs and traffic controllers’ directions.

From Monday 10 December 2018 extended weekday and new weekend clearways will be operational on Hume Highway between Cumberland Highway, Liverpool and Henry Lawson Drive, Villawood.

The clearway hours will operate in both directions of Hume Highway from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and from 9am to 6pm on weekend and public holidays.

Existing parking restrictions will continue to operate outside the new clearway hours. Bus zones will continue to operate without change.

New alternative parkingRoads and Maritime is relocating five parking spaces on Hume Highway into Goulburn Street by providing three 1/2P parking spaces for business customers, in addition to the three 1/2P parking spaces recently implemented by Council (details overleaf).

Liverpool City Council has approved the alternative business parking on Goulburn Street. The new alternative business parking will be available for business customers when the new and extended clearways commence on Monday 10 December 2018.
