Achieve3000 ® is pleased to announce the release of an enhanced LevelSet assessment. Our online assessment of nonfiction reading comprehension for students in grades 2-12 is now more robust, providing increased measurement precision and enhanced score validity. This will facilitate even closer monitoring of reading progress and College and Career Readiness targets. In conjunction with MetaMetrics ® , creator of the Lexile ® Framework for Reading, Achieve3000 developed and tested nearly 1,000 new LevelSet items. Items meeting pre-specified content and statistical criteria were retained and assembled into the new tests. The new LevelSet assessment includes the following characteristics: 11 unique grade-level versions, ranging from 2-12—providing more than double the number of versions than the previous LevelSet assessment enables optimal test selection and reliable assessment of a wide range of reading abilities. Three alternate forms for each version, with random presentation to students—the Achieve3000 program randomly selects the specific assessment form each student receives. This means that students completing the same version of the assessment won’t see the same items. This also means that, even if students’ reading abilities remain the same from one assessment to the next, they will see different items. Please note these changes only apply to the English LevelSet assessment LevelSet Enhancements Back to School 2014 – 2015 New from Achieve3000 ® for 2014-2015 LevelSet pre-test LevelSet post-test

Achieve3000® is pleased to announce the release of an enhanced LevelSet™ assessment. Our online assessment of nonfiction reading comprehension for students in grades 2-12 is now more robust, providing increased measurement precision and enhanced score validity. This will facilitate even closer monitoring of reading progress and College and Career Readiness targets.

In conjunction with MetaMetrics®, creator of the Lexile® Framework for Reading, Achieve3000 developed and tested nearly 1,000 new LevelSet items. Items meeting pre-specified content and statistical criteria were retained and assembled into the new tests. The new LevelSet assessment includes the following characteristics:

• 11 unique grade-level versions, ranging from 2-12—providing more than double the number of versions than the previous LevelSet assessment enables optimal test selection and reliable assessment of a wide range of reading abilities.

• Three alternate forms for each version, with random presentation to students—the Achieve3000 program randomly selects the specific assessment form each student receives. This means that students completing the same version of the assessment won’t see the same items. This also means that, even if students’ reading abilities remain the same from one assessment to the next, they will see different items.

Please note these changes only apply to the English LevelSet assessment

We’re pleased to announce several new reports and tools to help you monitor and act upon students’ Lexile® reading scores.

Developing Readers ReportThis year, we provide even more ways teachers can help students who are on their way to becoming independent readers. The new Developing Readers report, available in Admin, under Assessment Tools, helps teachers quickly identify their most struggling readers. Students identified as Developing Readers in the Achieve3000® program will have sustained practice at their current Lexile levels and should complete an interim LevelSet™ assessment midway through the academic year to update their Lexile levels in the system.

• Alerts when Developing Readers report changes—when new students or Lexile scores are added to the Developing Readers report, teachers are notified in a pop-up alert on the Achieve3000 Teacher’s Edition homepage and via email (for email addresses entered on the Teacher Profile page).

Beginning Reader Reporting We are pleased to join MetaMetrics®, developer of the Lexile Framework for Reading, in taking steps to address the literacy needs of beginning readers. Achieve3000 will incorporate MetaMetrics’ new reporting for students in the Beginning Reader range, or those with Lexiles below zero.

• New BR reporting for students with Lexiles below zero. On all reports, Lexile scores below zero will use the BR reporting convention, replacing the minus sign with ‘BR.’ For example, a student who would have previously been reported as -400L will now be reported as BR400L.

• Now includes students and parents—with this new reporting, exact negative Lexile values, instead of only BR, will appear on dashboards and reports seen by students and parents. This will help students and parents with children in the Beginning Reader range understand their placement on the reading continuum.

Developing Readers IconIn addition to the Developing Readers report, a Developing Readers icon helps teachers easily see students identified as Developing Readers on Achieve3000 reports. A yellow “caution-like” symbol helps teachers easily see their most at-risk students.

New Home Lexile Letter (formerly LevelSet Results Letter)Achieve3000 understands the importance of clear and ongoing communication with students’ caregivers and is pleased to offer a new communication tool, the Home Lexile Letter. This letter contains important information written specifically for parents and guardians. This includes:

• Continually updating Lexile measures—the student Lexile reported on the Home Lexile Letter will be updated as students complete LevelSet assessments and, if applicable, have their Lexiles adjusted by the Achieve3000 program. This helps you provide parents and guardians with the most up-to-date information.

• Tips for increasing reading abilities at home—the Home Lexile Letter lists specific things parents and guardians can do to help students become better readers.

• Information about readiness for college and career—as parents and guardians may be unfamiliar with interpreting students’ Lexile, the Home Lexile Letter provides information to increase familiarity with the Lexile scale and College and Career Readiness targets.

• Availability in English and Spanish.
