In the past two decades, Black Stone Cherry has set a new standard for Southern rock, revitalizing the tradition with burly riffs and stirring modern-rock hooks. Since its formation in 2001, the four-piece band and brotherhood has remained Chris Robertson, vocals/guitar; Ben Wells, guitar/vocals; Jon Lawhon, bass/vocals; and John Fred Young, drums. Though not blood relatives, the guys grew up together, immersed in the culture of shitkicking rock n’ roll.

As the world plummeted into the Covoid-19 pandemic, the four members of Black Stone Cherry were nestled deep in the woods of Kentucky. There, they could feel the disease closing in as they watched the news daily, and it became apparent the album they were finishing featured eerily prescient lyrics. The resulting 13-track record is broadly emotive, and anthemic. It was finished just before global lockdown was imposed, and it’s aptly titled, ‘The Human Condition’. “There was a real urgency and fear of the unknown during those sessions—it was a scary time,” recalls drummer, John Fred Young. “Every song on this album tells a story of the experiences we all go through—our happiness, our struggles, and how we have to adapt.” Sonically, ‘The Human Condition’ is also one of BSC’s most visceral and hooky albums. “With this one, we cranked up the amps, the drums are in your face, and there are some really heavy riffs,” adds guitarist/vocalist Ben Wells. “After 19 years and 7 albums, we wanted to prove a that we still kick ass. This album feels like a rebirth.”

The Human Condition was recorded in a cabin studio at the end of February 2019. The guys went in with 4 songs, wrote new songs, and recorded some beloved unreleased favorites. The production and performances on the album are some of BSC’s fiercest and finest. The results are stunning—the grooves feel organic, the riffs are mountainous, the performances are urgent, and the hooks shine through gloriously.

“When I listen back to this record, I feel all these different emotions,” Jon Lawhon says. “We started when we were teens, and life has definitely taken its course, especially now. Through it all, your heart and your perspectives change, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our connection as friends.” Chris affirms: “This is a brotherhood. It’s been amazing to stick around with all four original members and still be inspired. EVILDEAD WAS FORMED IN 1987 WITH THE INTENTION TO CREATE HEAVY MUSIC IN THE THRASH METAL VEIN.

EVILDEAD’s debut live appearance was on April 11, 1987 at Fender’s Ballroom in Long Beach, California on a bill that also featured Cryptic Slaughter, Dark Angel, and Pos-sessed. Soon after the band entered the recording studio to record their classic 3-song demo; featuring the songs ‘The Awakening’, ‘Sloe-Death’, and ‘Process: Elimination’. The EVILDEAD sound was unique; highlighting a blend of speed and thrash metal guitar riffs along with hyper drumming locked in with an over the top thundering bass with punk overtones, and lyrical themes that explored political, thought provoking social ideas; mixed with horror, and nuclear war themes. In 2019 EVILDEAD secured a recording deal with SPV/Steamhammer for their upcoming release entitled UNITED $TATE$ OF ANARCHY (Release date: 30 October 2020). It will feature nine studio tracks plus a metalized cover version of the B-52’s ‘Planet Claire’ as a bonus track. Seminal artist Edward J. Repka has once again illustrated the cover of the new album, to be released on CD/digipack and colored vinyl. The band has compiled a collection of new songs that are a throwback to their roots of thrash. With UNITED $TATE$ OF ANARCHY, EVILDEAD has returned more powerful than ever and awakened again to annihilate the masses.

Last year, German thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTION played a spectacular show at the country's Party.San Metal Open Air festival. Destruction is a German thrash metal band, formed in 1982. They are often credited as one of the "Big Four" of the German thrash metal scene, the others being Kreator, Sodom and Tankard. Formed on New Years Day in 2010, NIIGHTS began writing and recording their full-length, Whisper, which was self-released in 2013. Lyrically, Whisper tackled topics of substance abuse, addiction, domestic violence, and heartache, as well as some of Fournier’s comingof-age experience from growing up in Las Vegas. The result was a heartfelt album full of poignant words that channeled the spirit of 90’s shoegaze and ethereal dream-pop. Whisper then started selling world-wide, and soon landed them a distribution deal with a Japanese record label, 2670 Records.

Following two international tours under their belt along with regional touring in the midwest, NIIGHTS was soon picked up Sun Pedal Recordings. With a SXSW tour for Elvis Depressedly and their fourth tour to Japan wrapped up, NIIGHTS was ready to emerge from their shell in the US and take their music to the national stage as they released their long awaited sophomore album, Hellebores, came out February 15th, 2019.

Upon release, Hellebores gained enourmous traffic on streaming platforms being playlisted on some of spotify’s biggest shoegaze playlisted. If you saw Sarah and the Safe Word barrelling down Atlanta’s I-285 last year, we have some good news and bad news. The good news is they stopped their joyride long enough to hightail it up to Cleveland. The bad news is they’re now accruing speeding tickets across time and space.

Good Gracious! Bad People. is the briskly recorded, breathlessly ambitious follow-up to last year’s Red Hot & Holy. While the album’s combination of symphonic dramatics and saber toothed alt-rock may have had everybody reaching for their MySpace logins, the Atlanta group’s latest LP doubles down on pre-Internet showmanship. In doing so, the sextet widened their storytelling map to include the rest of the southern United States, the magical realism of backwater folklore, and a kitchen-sink approach to melody making assisted by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Jack’s Mannequin). What lingers long after the powderkeg production and the spidery tall tales is the impact of a band experimenting their way through the Roaring 2020’s.

Sarah and the Safe Word’s anachronistic approach to songwriting, like soaking Prohibition-era attitudes in scotch and soda, may come as a system shock. “Bottom of a Bender” features space-age synths and a guitar solo performed by an electric power drill. “A Celebration—With a Vengeance?!” bursts open a cabaret scene with a thunderous sax solo. “When Oskar Fische Comes to Town” is a song so indebted to organic strings and piano chords that it could be retrofitted for ragtime hour. Such erratic time-traveling isn’t for the faint of heart. Let these Georgians introduce you to a few characters. They’ve got character themselves.

Mute are excited to announce the release of Pole’s new album Fading, to be released November 6 on CD, black vinyl, and all digital platforms.

Pole is the project of ground-breaking electronic musician Stefan Betke. The new album Fading is the first since 2015’s Wald. As with every new Pole record, it is part of a continued forward trajectory, but it also connects to a pre-existing sonic framework. “Every Pole record connects to recordings that I’ve made before,” Betke says, “in order to stay in this kind of vertical development. The ideas 1, 2, and 3 [his groundbreaking first three albums] up to now are connected. I keep the interesting elements, languages and vocabulary that I designed and add new elements.” Fading follows the physical release of the remastered versions of 1, 2, and 3.

In the late 90s Betke created the identity Pole to release his electronic musical creations, shaping what many see as milestones in dub within electronic music. Taking his name from a defective analogue Waldorf 4-Pole filter, the broken machine’s distinctive crackles gave Pole the starting point for his equally simple and subtle sound layers. Rhythmic textures and warmly pulsing bass lines join in play and experience a slow shift towards Minimal Dub. Pole’s music has a unique way of oscillating between melody and avant-garde, between pop and experimental.

Albert Bouchard is best known as one of the founding members of Blue Öyster Cult. The original band sold millions of albums for Columbia Records with such classic songs as “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and the #1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart “Burning For You”.

As a songwriter, he wrote many BÖC songs including the very popular ”Astronomy” which was covered by Metallica on their 1998’s release Garage Inc and the live staple “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll”, which he also sang lead vocals.

Today when not writing and recording in his home studio, he performs with several bands. His latest group, Blue Coupe, is a superstar combo which features his brother Joe Bouchard, also a founding member of BÖC, and Dennis Dunaway, a founder of the Alice Cooper Group and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Albert’s famous cowbell on “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” was the basis of the popular SNL skit with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken, which has gained over 13 million views and spawned the phrase “More Cowbell”.

Re Imaginos sees Albert revisiting the 1988 Blue Öyster Cult album Imaginos, which was originally intended as his solo album. The album weaves scripts and poems by the late Sandy Pearlman, a concept album about an alien conspiracy that is brought to fruition during the late 19th and early 20th century through the actions of Imaginos, an agent of evil.
