What was learned afterward definitely, and onlythrough the operations or the Flying SquadronItself, has been made use of t.i censure its com-mander, when It ousht to have been held. In anyconsideration of tin- equity of the question, thatthis knowledge acquired after the fact could notbe used or justly applied to a situation unknownat the time to the commander.It could. be added at the same time that the only

party who was not at the end of \u25a0 telegraph line,nor apparently In the secrets of the war. was thecommander of th" Flying Squadron.
