TIROHANGA DAY

An excited bus load of children rumbled out

to Tirohanga for an action packed day. After

Mr Thorn’s briefing we all go to our first

activity. My group went to the Nature Hunt

with Mrs Parker. We saw two fantails on our

way up. Next we went to Orienteering with

Miss Ovens. I was first in my team to finish.

It was hard. I got a lot of prickles in my leg.

By: Hunter Henderson

As people rushed out of the bus into

Tirohanga, excitement filled my body. We

all sat down in our groups and off we went to

the Obstacle Course. I jumped, crawled and

rolled through the obstacles. After morning

tea we went to the Tight Ropes with Mrs

Read. Joel was my buddy. It was tricky

doing it blind-folded. Next we went to the

Confidence Course with Mrs Casey. Sophie

was my buddy. There was a cool chill down

my back as I balanced on the beams. It was

the first time I went on the hard bits, like the

rope on a slope.

By: Erika Reid An excited bus load of children scrambled out to

Tirohanga. We walked out and got into groups.

First we were at the Obstacle Course. I was one of

the leaders too, so I helped people when they did it.

We weaved through the sticks and went under a

sheet. After we played a trust game. It was fun.

Next we had morning tea. Our next activity was the

Initiative Course with Mrs Read. We had to do it

with partners. I went with Abby. We did it blind-

folded. When it was my go, Abby was too small

and I could not reach her shoulders so I used her

head. Next we did the Confidence Course. I

buddied up with Jordyn in Room six. I helped her

with the things she couldn’t do. I said “think about

the good things not the bad things” and that helped

her! I felt proud to help her.

By: Sophie Thorburn

Weaving through the people in the line,

down the dusty gravel road, I see my old

house. But in the distance I see a field and

cabins and then I know that we have arrived.

Next I get Group 14 in line. We get called to

our first activity – Enviro Art. My group put

together three sticks and covered them with

leaves. Our next activity was the Climbing

Wall. I raced Caleb up the wall. I won!

Then I raced him up the hard wall. I beat

him again. I helped the little kids across the

wall. Next we marched to our next activity

Bivy Building. We built a good quality little

tent like bivy and the whole team could just

fit in it. Finally we went Yabbie catching, I

had a HUGE one!

OTAGO SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP

Well done to the East Taieri swimmers who competed in the Otago Swimming Champs yesterday. These are fabulous results and a real credit to the swimmers. Nearly everyone did faster times than their TSSA results. Special mention to Erika who was 8 seconds faster in her 50 backstroke. Results are on swim Otago website as well as below (http://otago.swimming.org.nz/event.php?id=197). It was awesome to see everyone having a go and supporting each other.
