Le is the first person of Asian heritage to be appointed a state governor in Australia. It was very moving how he spoke of arriving in Australia with a suitcase, empty except for the dreams of a better life. A wonderful example of the richness that our citizens of all nationalities add to our home.

Year 8 Subject Information Evenings, Year 12 Trial HSC Exams, Year 11 Exams & AAS Testing

Year 8 students: directors of their own learning: It was wonderful to see so many parents and students at the Year 9 2017 Subject Information Evening last week. The Year 8 students are certainly excited by the choices on offer; this is an exciting time for them as they begin to take greater responsibility for their learning and make decisions about the elective subjects that will engage them over the next couple of years.

Year 12 students: important work remaining: Now that the penultimate set of exams – the Trial HSC Examination – is complete, our Year 12 students are working closely with their teachers in order to implement the feedback that they have received. There is much that can be done in the coming weeks to hone responses and firm examination strategies. This is a crucial time for our Year 12 students as they work towards the HSC exams, and networks of family and friends play an integral role in supporting the students. Family and friends inhabit an important place in the credits that roll from our students’ achievements.

Students undertaking Visual Art, Design and Technology, Music and Drama are particularly busy as they work toward the submission of their major works and process diaries. Students should be maintaining a ready dialogue with their teachers in order to ensure that their major works are progressing steadily toward completion and that they are in compliance with all project specifications.

Performance examination dates have been released for Drama and we wish our Year 12 Drama students all the best as they prepare for their performance exam on 31 August.

Year 11 students: end of Preliminary Course Examinations: Students in Year 11 are preparing for the very important end of course exams in their Preliminary HSC Course. These exams take place across Week 7 and begin on Monday 29 August. The students are approaching their assessments and exams with seriousness and have been plaguing their teachers for advice and feedback; this is advice that their teachers are very happy to impart! Many students are producing well-structured and carefully researched summary material to assist them in their endeavours, and others are submitting draft material to their teachers for comment. We wish them very well in their study and look forward to seeing the fruits of their labours as they tackle this important set of challenges.

AAS Testing: On 19 September, Year 4 students will undertake diagnostic testing that targets skills of reading, writing, general and non-verbal reasoning, spelling and Mathematics. This will assist us to track the development of these students as they progress through the College.

Whilst our original plans included Year 6 and Year 8 in this testing regime, we have decided to focus only on Year 4 this year. This will allow us to properly embed the testing regime into our current practices.

Parents of Year 10 students are able to access the AAS reports for their daughters or sons by contacting me at the College.

Year 11 Relay for Life Congratulations to our Year 11 students who were involved in the Relay for Life Breakfast Café recently. The students arrived early and catered for a large number of guests. Trinity Anglican College is currently the leading team in funds raised for this year’s relay with $4690 banked so far. With a number of activities being organised before the end of this term the students are well on the way to challenging the total raised by Year 11 in 2015.

Leadership Positions The process of choosing the College Leaders for 2016/17 has started. It has been encouraging to see 45 of our Year 11 students apply for a leadership position. This puts us in a difficult but pleasing position of choosing our College leaders from such a strong group of students. The announcement of College leaders will take place at the final assembly of the term on Friday 23 September.

HSC Performances and Practical Projects Deadlines are looming for the completion of works by students whose subject has a practical component. HSC marking will take place in the College for Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Design and Technology. Upcoming events that celebrate the achievement of Year 12 students are detailed below.

Words Their Way Years 1-6 have been making use of a spelling resource known as ‘Words Their Way’ from the beginning of 2016. This is a spelling process that allows students and staff to focus on specific aspects of spelling and endeavours to focus on particular skills. The process allows students to progress through at the right pace and also allows staff to focus on whole group activities with directions as well as differentiated activities for smaller groups. One important aspect of the resource is Word Play. This involves playing with words using the following as guidelines of writing words (day-to-day, subject specific), looking at word patterns (sounds, letter, shape, oddballs), creating new words (mixing, matching), analysing known words (breaking in to pieces), listening to and writing poetry (of all forms), gathering information about words (origin, changes) and understanding meaning via identification (links, synonyms), manipulation and analysis. This is an extensive process that ensures that spelling is not a one-off exercise and that this skill becomes part of an authentic process that is always relevant. As we work through the introductory year the staff are modifying the resource to fit with many other activities.

Lions Club Public Speaking Regional Final Samuele Vaccaro represented the Thurgoona Lions Club at the Regional Final on Sunday at Yackandandah. The College participates in more than 50 sporting events annually. At Trinity we’re very fortunate to have the staff with the expertise, passion and enthusiasm to provide our students the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting events. Staff consistently volunteer their time to provide these opportunities. I am continually impressed our students show their appreciation and gratitude to all those involved.

While the emphasis is not on winning, it is with great pleasure I introduce Mr Hillary’s article on his side’s recent triumph in the AFL NSW Paul Kelly Cup. Additionally, I would like to extend my thanks to Mr Hillary for preparing, training and coaching this team, and to all College coaches who work tirelessly for our students.

Paul Kelly Cup A roller coaster ride, best sums up Trinity's day at the SCG, attempting to claim the Paul Kelly Cup. The team had played some amazing football at the two previous carnivals to get themselves to the State Finals. The team unfortunately underperformed in two of their three pool games to finish with one win. Our day was all over... Well so coach Mr Hillary thought! Our big win in the second game and an upset in the final game, saw us scrape through to the semi-finals by the skin of our teeth.

The team were keen to make amends and make the most of the opportunity that presented itself. We played Newington College in the semi-final and got off to an excellent start. A rock solid defence was the basis of what was a productive half on the score board. The team was full of confidence again and continued to play like the champions they are and run out two goal winners.

This meant we were in the grand final against St Angela's who defeated us by five points in our final pool match. Once again the team got off to a great start and we were able to convert some early opportunities into goals and went into half time with a comfortable three goal lead. We continued to put the foot down in the second half, saving our best team performance for last. Trinity Anglican College won the game 35-7. We were crowned the 2016 NSW Primary School Champions on the hallowed SCG turf and in front of all of our very encouraging supporters!

To top the day off Archer Chaston, who was our nomination for the 'Long Bomb' competition, managed to get hold of a huge torpedo punt and win with longest kick out of seven others.

What an uplifting experience it was for everyone involved! Well done to the 17 players who represented their school, family, the Albury community and themselves so well at all events throughout the year.

From all the players and coaches, a big thank you to Trinity for supporting this event and everyone involved. Thank you to all the parents, who without their support, we would not have had the experience that we have all had.

A final thank you from me to the players, who were such a great team to coach. Well done, on such an incredible achievement. You should be all very proud of the way you conducted yourselves and how you were able to get the best out of each other.

Albury-Wodonga Eisteddfod and AMEB Exams

Well done and congratulations to all the Trinity students who competed in both individual and ensemble sections at this year’s Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod as well as those who completed this round of AMEB Examinations. There were some fantastic results across the board and it was great to see many Trinity students involved in different categories of dance, drama and music.

There were some outstanding achievements for a number of Trinity students at the Eisteddfod as well as the AMEB examinations. Natasha Kronenberg, gained a first place in three sections in the music section of the Eisteddfod and champion of the 11/12 years aggregate for woodwind. Iona Kelly, Mattea Kelly, Alicia Auwardt and Isabeau Hansen were also named age champions in the Speech and Drama section of the Eisteddfod. There were many other performers who achieved excellent results and are to be congratulated on their efforts.
