Several ideas were presented. Many suggestions came from the meeting including connecting more with the broader community and linking school to the real world. Project based learning and Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) projects were posed as a way to increase student engagement. Promoting a consistent K-12 Welfare Policy was also discussed. In order to ensure our wellbeing strategies reflect the values of the parent and student body, Molong Central School is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Staff and parents will also be invited to take part in the survey. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. If you do not wish your student to participate in the survey please complete the form that has been sent home with this Newsletter and return to school by Friday, 11th March, 2016. Information regarding participation in parent surveys will be sent to you in March. The surveys will provide us with valuable feedback on what our Year 4-12 students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and school staff will not be able to identify individual students or parents from their responses. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered between 14 March and 8 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. There will be opportunities provided at school for parents who do not have access to the internet to complete the parent surveys and if you have any enquiries please direct them to me. The more people that respond the more accurate the data will be. MOLONG CENTRAL SCHOOL PARENTS AND CITIZENS COMMITTEE All parents and carers are invited to attend the MCS P&C Annual General Meeting on Monday 29 th February at 7.30pm in the Staff Common Room. If you would like to vote at the P&C AGM then you must pay $2:00 to become a member. This needs to occur before the meeting begins and can be paid at the Main Office up until the day of the meeting. PATERSON HOUSE – SWIMMING CHAMPIONS FOR 2016! The 2016 Secondary Swimming Carnival was held in perfect conditions in Week 3, with the warm weather further encouraging students in all age groups to enter races. The day commenced with the across-pool house race, which always proves to be a great starting point for swimmers of varying abilities. Another early highlight was the quality of the dress-up provided by our colourful Year 12 group. It did not take long to realise that swimming in formal dresses of yesteryear was not particularly conducive with fast heat times . As the day progressed, the race for House points remained tight for the majority of the carnival. It was once again Paterson House who proved to be too strong after the completion of the relays, taking out the 2016 Secondary Swimming Carnival. Congratulations to the students of Paterson House on a fine effort, and indeed to all students from the four Houses who participated so well throughout the day. Congratulations to our Age Champions (listed below) who swam particularly well in their respective events. The points race for age champion was very hotly contested in all 6 categories and the winners should be very pleased with their efforts in this highly competitive aspect of the carnival. A special mention must go to Aaliyah (Nemo) Wright who broke a staggering five records (listed below) throughout the day, some of which had stood for over 20 years. Congratulations, Aaliyah! It is always pleasing to see an individual rewarded for the hours of training and hard work required in order to be so successful. Six students qualified for a variety of events at the upcoming Western Trials and we wish them well in their respective races. Best of luck to Sarah Valentine, Aaliyah Wright, Kade Barrow, Ben Kirk, Hugh Foy and Toby Parry. One of the pleasing aspects of any carnival at M.C.S. is the willingness of our students to get in and assist with setting up and cleaning up throughout the day. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the efforts of these individuals and thank them for their assistance. These qualities are an example of what makes Molong Central such a pleasant environment for students and staff alike. Thank you to all of the pool staff for their efforts and also to the volunteers who assisted at the carnival. Thank you to the M.C.S. staff for their professional assistance throughout the day. Well done to all who were involved in this highly successful and enjoyable carnival.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a group of students that are elected by their fellow students. The SRC members represent all students in the school and organise ways for students to participate and contribute to the school community. The SRC act as a voice for the student body and take on board student suggestions to create a better school experience such as improvements to the playground and other aspects of the school. Throughout the year the SRC will also organise fundraisers for charities and the school. The 2016 SRC was inducted at the Secondary assembly on Tuesday 23rd February. Congratulations to the following students:

SCHOOL LEADERS RECOGNISED Last Thursday School Leaders were recognised at our assembly where they received their badges for 2016. It was lovely to see so many parents who came to see this wonderful presentation to our well-deserved recipients. I am sure our new School Leaders and House Captains will lead our Primary School with honour and integrity.

CANBERRA RAIDERS VISIT MCS Last Thursday four players from the Canberra Raiders and Alex Prout, NRL Development Officer, visited our school and made a presentation on Wellbeing and Staying Healthy. Students from K-8 participated in a range of games and activities with some students receiving gifts for their knowledge about the game and staying healthy. The visit coincided with a trial game between the Raiders and the Knights on Saturday at Wade Park in Orange. Well done to all of our students for their wonderful behaviour and participation during the presentation.

Canberra Raiders Jordan Rapana, Josh Hodgson, Aiden Sezer & Lachlan Croker, with students Marlee, Makai, Olivia, Sonnie & Milly.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART Our students have been very busy learning new skills for the upcoming Jump Rope for Heart “Jump Off” Day. This will be held in the first week of next term. Sponsorship forms have gone home and we encourage all families to get behind this wonderful program. Most importantly, our students will be contributing to fundraising that enables the Heart Foundation to continue research into heart disease. All fundraising is done online with fantastic prizes available to students depending on the amount of money they raise.

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that at the upcoming School Fete Mrs

Schaefer, Mrs Quinn and I will be overseeing the 2nd Hand

Book Stall. We are eager to offer an appealing assortment

of books for all ages. To achieve this goal we are asking the

school community if they can donate any books that are in

good condition to sell on the day. Both Fiction and non-

fiction titles would be great. Donations can be left at the

Library.

The 2016 Premier’s Reading Challenge will commence on

Monday, 7th March. Students will be able to include books

they have read since last September in their personal

reading logs. In the next week I will be sending home a

permission note for those students who want to take part

this year. Students in K-2 classes will complete the Challenge

with their teachers in their classrooms over the next few

months.

The 2016 PRC must be completed no later than Friday, 19th

August. I would like to encourage all Year 3 students to

continue with the Challenge as they will be awarded with

their Gold certificate at the end of this year. It is also hoped

that our Secondary students will continue to participate and

reach the ultimate award of the PRC Medal in Year 9.

Make sure you visit us at the 2nd

Hand Book Stall on Friday!
