The first Economic Partnership Agreement between EU and African region comes into effect
Source: EU Commission - DG Trade
The Economic Partnership Agreement concluded by the EU and four Eastern and Southern African states Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles and Zimbabwe came into effect recently. EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht feels that this trade deal will help the development of their partners in Eastern and Southern Africa and provide better and lasting business opportunities. This Agreement will provide duty and quota free access to the EU market for exports from these four countries. The Agreement also covers provisions on rules of origin, development cooperation, fisheries, trade defence instruments and dispute settlement. The scope of this agreement is expected to encourage regional integration and strengthen a partnership approach with the EU bringing economic and political benefits.
