NEWSLETTER NO. 10 GINGIN DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 3rd July 2019 www.gingin.wa.edu.au
Leadership Excursion
n Wednesday 19th June, the student councillors embarked on an excursion to Kerem Adventure Park. This
excursion was organised to help us develop and consolidate leadership skills such as communication,
team-work and problem solving.
We began with communication activities such as leading our blind-folded troop through an obstacle course
using only our powers of communication! After that, we worked our way through a Low-ropes course that
encouraged us to lead and help our peers through.
We put our ‘problem solving’ hats on to attempt the ‘Spider’s Web’ activity and we managed to work as a team
to carry, lift and guide each other through a spider’s web made out of ropes. This one was a challenge but we
made it!
Lastly, we had a go at the rock climbing, which is where we encouraged each other to face our fears. We all
had the chance to get to know each other throughout the day and we left with new skills and new friends.

Winter Carnival On Friday 21st June the Year 4, 5 & 6’s travelled to Bullsbrook College to
participate in the 2019 Winter Carnival – a day full of Round-Robin sport
against other schools in the area. This year we had teams for Volleyball,
Netball, Soccer and Football.
Volleyball
I think we played really well. The A Division team came third and the B
Division team came second! Camee was the best at hitting the ball over
the net and Nhu was good at serving, even though it made her hands
sore!
Tahlia Carter & Nhu Diem Tong
Netball
We had Division A and B teams for netball. Division A came fifth and
Division B came second! Both teams played really well and the best part
was coming together as a team and winning many games! We enjoyed
playing different schools and felt proud to represent Gingin. We had an
awesome experience and hope to do it again next year!
Charlie Wise & Deryl Tapiru
Soccer
We had a good team for Soccer! It was a great day and Fraser
managed to score Gingin’s only goal! We had some high school
coaches and we would like to thank our supporters at the games!
Fraser Davidson & Malachi Knight
Football
At the Winter Carnival I play football and my team came second! We were
really close to beating Yanchep Beach but they beat us by 3 points. My
favourite part was when I got a goal! I felt nervous to see the other teams
but we all had fun!

Carnival Helpers
A huge shout out to all the students who have helped with
carnival prep this semester. We couldn’t have done it without
you so THANK YOU!
These photos were taken during Cross Country set up where
students wore a variety of Ms Devine’s rain jackets in
preparation for the pouring rain. They had a tough site
supervisor in Mr Chipchase. Everything must be centimetre
perfect!
When Big & Little Combine
During Period 6 on a Friday, the Year 9/10 class have been
combining with Mrs Miller’s Yr 1 PE class to participate in fun
and exciting games. They have played capture the flag,
scarecrow, duck duck goose and rob the nest just to name a
few. This is a wonderful way to finish off the week and for
primary and high school to work collaboratively. The Year 1’s
certainly put them in their place!!!

Camp Hero is a leadership camp which hosts 40 of
Western Australia’s most inspiring Year 9 to Year 12
students. The camp is facilitated by WA-based not-
for-profit organisation zero2hero.
Camp Hero equips students with the skills required to
become mental health leaders and ambassadors in
their community. Our team of experienced mentors
and facilitators will assist students in developing their
understanding of the mental health arena through
a series of specialised workshops and activities.
Students will be encouraged to physically challenge
themselves whilst at the same time learn how to
communicate more proficiently and how best to
care for themselves.
Participants will be selected based on their
commitment to being a leader in their community
and on their passion and desire to make a
difference in the area of mental health. Please note
that this is not a camp for mental health treatment
or therapy and students who are unsuccessful are
encouraged to explore other leadership
opportunities.
Students are only eligible to attend Camp Hero
once.
