An ophthalmologist is an eye doctor who not only prescribes glasses, but also performs eye surgery. The eye may be a small part of the body, but it has many different important parts. Eye surgeons can perform plastic surgery on the outside of the eye, and can also do surgery inside the eye using special microscopes. I loved science in high school and college and decided to get both my MD and PhD, so that I could use research to help improve the medical care patients receive.
