project overview The Nicholas House development provides Supported Housing for people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. The development takes the form of two separate buildings; the larger of which is in stepped form reflecting the topography of the site. It incorporates a variety of dwelling types including 6 flats for people with learning difficulties with a communal lounge, staff office and secure garden area. The building also houses a further 10 flats for people suffering from mental health issues with a communal lounge, support staff office & sleepover area and an enclosed courtyard garden. The adjacent smaller building provides a further 4 ‘move-on’ independent living flats for residents, with a garden area. The development is situated above the Chiltern Area Rain Water Aquifer, which provides drinking water to London and the surrounding area and is partially situated on a 100-year flood plain. The buildings have been designed with tanked concrete ground floors and masonry walls to alleviate the potential for flooding. The development was designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and incorporates a system of solar hot water panels on the roofs of the buildings. project services Architecture
