The Nuclear Institute (NI) has been established as the Qualifying Institution responsible to the Engineering Council for Engineers, Scientists and Technicians in the Nuclear Industry. It has been formed through the merger of the Institution of Nuclear Engineers (INucE) and the British Nuclear Energy Society (BNES). The NI will continue the efforts previously undertaken by BNES and INucE:
•TomaintainthearrangementsforawardingCharteredEngineer,IncorporatedEngineer, and Technical Engineer status and links with the Engineering Council.
•ToprovideEducationandTrainingopportunitiesandsupportformembersandthe public and meet the requirements of the Charity Commission as a registered charity.

In the North-West Region this is achieved through an ongoing programme of educational and social events organised by the NI North West Branch and the NI YoungGenerationNetwork(YGN),andfinancialsupporttoselectedlocalschools,as detailed in this brochure.
This level of activity has been in place in the NW region for over 60 years, through the founding of the Risley Nuclear Engineering Society (RNES) by Sir Christopher Hinton in 1946 which continued its activities in collaboration with the NW Branches of the BNES and INucE from 1985 before being incorporated into the NW Branch of the BNES in 1997.
