Visit to Infosys:

Infosys Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: INFY) was started in 1981 by seven people

consulting with revenues of US$ 5.4 billion.

As part of our four year Engineering

curriculum, we conduct Industrial

visits to various companies. On 3rd

October, 2010, Students of SGI

visited Infosys Technologies Ltd,

Chandigarh. Three faculties

accompanied the students.

The students were taken inside the

campus and were offered a note pad

and a pencil and were made to

assemble in a beautiful Air-

conditioned Hi-Tech auditorium.

Students were shown two short documentaries on the history, culture, vision,

mission, success story and the customer’s feedback on Infosys. There students got

an insight in to high standards set by Infosys.

After the Tea break, the students were addressed by Senior HR and Campus

recruitment Managers on the carrier options and the parameters on which the

students are being assessed and selected for recruitment.

Then, the questions from the students were answered by the senior executives of

the company. It was overwhelming. Our students clarified many of their doubts

regarding corporate requirements from the students and the opportunities

available. Lots of tips were offered to face an interview. Then our students were

taken to their canteen which they call it as a food court, which is a pleasure to

watch. A nice buffet lunch was offered to the students and faculty.

The response from the students was awesome and they were all overjoyed with the

experience they had. They not only visited the company, they also got an insight in

to a Corporate world through one of the most successful companies in the World

Visit to IBM:

In the IT world today, there is a serious

lack of trained professionals with the

desired skill sets to take on the ever

increasing demands of an industry

which has been marked by sustained

double digit revenue growth.

The IBM Career Education in IBM

Software (CEIS) program is the ideal

educational solution to prepare fresh

graduates and career professionals for

today’s information technology

demands, helping them to acquire all

the skills, education and experience

they need to build successful careers in

this industry.

On 20th October, 2010, Students of SGI visited IBM, Gurgaon. Two faculties

accompanied the students. The experts briefed the students about the various

professional courses offered by IBM Career Education.

They explained the students how CEIS brings together existing IBM Software

(CEIS) Software Education courses into a simple and coherent program targeted

for specific career paths. The curriculum design incorporates a “blended learning”

approach by integrating classroom, hands-on lab exercises and team projects to

provide students both the theoretical and practical training needed to build strong

database administration, e-business administration, application development and

testing skills.

CEIS brings together existing IBM Software Education courses into a simple and

coherent program targeted for specific career paths. Students can choose a suitable

career path for themselves and follow the specialization courses to get there.

These types of visits are really helping students to know the current

requirement of technologies in the market. SGI is providing such courses of IBM

from last 18 months; students are getting knowledge of professional courses

parallel with their studies. Right now weekly training sessions on DB2

Technologies are continuously going on.

Live workshop on making & working of Robots:

A workshop on Making & Working of Robots was held at SGI on 30th October, 2010. The workshop was conducted by ERDC, SGI. The workshop was basically to create awareness about the upcoming technological areas of Robotics & Automation. Automation is one step beyond mechanization. Mechanization provides human operators with machinery to assist them with muscular requirement of work; automation decreases the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well. Automation plays an increasingly important role in the world economy and had a notable impact in a wide range of highly visible industries beyond manufacturing. The training session was of 2 hours.

Basic Topics Covered in the Seminar:

WHAT IS ROBOTICS? TYPES OF ROBOTS DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF ROBOTS FUTURE ASPECTS OF ROBOTICS

During the Training Sessions Experts explained practically how a Robot be developed with the help of basic components & accessories like motors, ICs and PCBs. The session was really very interactive.

A Live Conference on Siemens PLM Education Program was organized by SGI on 12th October, 2010. Mr. Kannaiah Mudaliyar of Simens PLM Education and Mr. Sharadd Bhasin, Zonal Head G.T.T conducted the conference.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is a process that integrates all phases of designing a product from conceptual stage, manufacturing and finally to service and disposal. It is the coverage of CAD, CAM, PDM and manufacturing process. Simens PLM has a very large customer base spanning over fifty countries with 50 of the Fortune-100 companies using PLM Software Technology.

During the conference, students were given a brief about Solid Edge (4 courses) and Team Centre Express (1 course). Students were also given necessary information about course resources & eligibility, duration.

The conference was very inter-active and questions raised by faculty and students were answered to their ultimate satisfaction.
