Kia Ora whānau, At the start of this term I think it would be fair to say that most of us were a bit unsure if we would be able to get this year’s production ready on time given the nature of the term ahead. Roll on 9 weeks and here we are - 1 day away from our first official performance which will be the Tuesday matinee. We start this week with a full dress rehearsal which is always a good time to make sure everything is as it should be. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge not only the work of our tamariki in being ready to perform, but also their willingness to try some new things for this year. Without giving too much away, I can assure you that you will see some great performances with some of our students definitely stepping out of their comfort zone. I have no doubt that you will enjoy what you see on stage. To the staff and support staff - well done. The hard work has paid off and what we have put together is a fun and entertaining show that I know our whānau will enjoy. Come Wednesday night you will all be able to breath a little easier. So as they say in show business - lights, camera, action! Ngā mihi nui Darryn Ward 1 John and Campbell deep in thought during chess club this week.

    It’s SHOWTIME!Kia Ora whānau,

At the start of this term I think it would be fair to say that most of us were a bit unsure if we would be able to get this year’s production ready on time given the nature of the term ahead.

Kapa Haka TicketsTo those who ordered them through the school, thank you for your prompt order and payment. Tickets will be handed out to the relevant people in Week 5 of Term 3. To those who decided not to order these through the school please keep your eye out on Ticketek, the rest of the tickets will ‘go live’ sometime in July.

School Production - some important info for this week!TicketingThe office staff will be going through the ‘waitlist’ this week and will contact you to let you know about any tickets that are available. Please remember that tickets must be paid for before Tuesday’s performance. Tickets need to be handed in at the door upon arrival. You may also have read in last week’s newsletter that we do ask that no preschoolers come to the evening show. They are most welcome at the matinee.

Arrival TimesUnless they have been specifically instructed to do so by their teacher, we ask that all children arrive at school by 5:30pm. We would appreciate it if they are not left at school early as we will still be getting final details sorted. Our school band members will need to be at school by 5pm for their tune up and rehearsal. If you are unsure of what time your child needs to be dropped off please check with their teacher.

ToiletingWe will have the toilet block outside Kahikatea and Kauri open each night for the audience to use.

Collecting your child at the endAt the end of the show we will remove the children from the hall before the audience and they will return to their classrooms. We ask that they are collected from their own room. The show runs for approximately 1 hour 40 minutes so we would ask for a 7:45pm pick up at the latest.

Late Start Wednesday and ThursdayWe are offering the option of a late start to our students on Wednesday and Thursday (arriving at morning tea). The exception is our Year 7 / 8 students who must be at school on Thursday in time to catch the technology bus. If you are intending to keep your child home on Wednesday and Thursday, please ensure that either the office or their teacher has been informed. If they catch the bus, please contact Carol (the driver). Please note that the school bus will be running on a normal schedule.

  • Board of Trustees ChangeoverOn Thursday we held our first meeting of the new board and final meeting for the outgoing board members. It was a chance for Rachel, Tina and Duncan to hear from the outgoing members a little bit more about the roles they have played and what being a BOT member is all about.

For Anne Murphy, Mark Stephens and Sabrina Ilett it was their last meeting before standing down from their roles. Anne has been our community liaison and Home & School Liaison on the board. This has been an important role as has provided a communication link between these groups and the community. Mark has held the Property portfolio and has overseen some major projects in his time. Sabrina has been our BOT chairperson for the past 3 years, an important role and one that she has carried out expertly. She was also on the board for a number of years before that.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Anne, Mark and Sabrina on behalf of myself and the staff for the service they have given to our school, for the support they have shown to our staff, for the time they have given up to attend to projects and attend meetings, and for always having the best interests of all of students in mind during their time on the board. We are all very grateful for the passion and drive you have shown.

Finally, to the new board and existing members who have remained on (Paul, Andrew and Anne Hughes), we are looking forward to more successful years under your guidance and thank you all for putting your names forward.

Wheelie WednesdayWe are still seeing a number of our students bringing their bikes and scooters to school on a Wednesday to use on the court or the track. I have had a number of the children asking if they can ride their bikes on the court after school. So that everyone knows the rules, we ask that no bikes are ridden on the courts after school until the second bus has gone home. This then means that there is less likelihood of injuries with fewer people around. We do have some very keen and able cyclists who are obviously wanting to hone their skills. Finally - I would like to thank all of our riders for the way they have been following our rules and using the track respectfully. It is certainly a wonderful asset.

  • Playhouse Theatre Performing at School (repeat)Next week we will have the Playhouse Theatre group performing for our school. Their show this year is the Tortoise and the Hare. A donation of $5.20 will be asked for through your child’s account. The timing of this production is perfect given we will have finished ours. The Playhouse group are very clever so it Will give our children a chance to see what can be done.

    Canterbury Schools Cross Country

Well done to our eight runners who competed in this event last week: Finn Yardley, Harry Witt, Sophie Ward-Martin, Sophie Orchard, Daisy Jones, Cooper Stewart, PJ Mackintosh and Lillie Wilson. All competed very well in huge races. Many thanks to all the parents who were able to support this event.

REACH Trip Term 3During the weekend all Year 7/8 pupils were emailed about the REACH ski trip that will take place early in Term 3. It has been sent out now so that you can organise the relevant gear in the holidays. This form is due back on the first Wednesday of the term. If you did not receive this form please contact Anne Hughes.

Winter Lunches This FridayIt was great to be able to have our ‘Winter lunches’ out on the field on Friday. The weather certainly played ball and allowed us to enjoy a picnic style lunch. This week we will be having Sushi.A reminder that our lunchtime will be 12:30pm eatingon Fridays, only during the period where hot lunches are on offer. It is also advisable that students still bring a lunchbox to keep any food that they don’t eat.

  • Garden to Table - Helpers WantedAs many of you will be aware, this year we are running our GTTprogramme weekly and through the 4 terms. It has been great to be able to offer the programme more regularly and to include a new class. However, with more sessions it has meant that weare asking more of our helpers for GTT and we appreciate that this is not easy. Cherry and Maxine would love to hear from anyone who would be willing to help out, or who has grandparents / aunts and uncles / or friends who you think would be willing to come along and lend a hand at a session. If you have any contacts or would even like to put your name forward please get in touch with Cherry Burgess or Anna Webb in Manuka. In the next week or so Cherry will be putting out an email of dates for sessions in each class. If you would also like to receive Term 3’s schedule of dates please get in touch with Cherry.

Wanted Clean plastic milk bottles with lids please. For Garden to Table programme use. Please drop off in the crate in the school hall. Thanks, Maxine
