SPLIT SQUATThe Split Squat tones the thighs and buttocks while building strength and power in the legs and lower back. This exercise targets the Quadriceps, Gluteus Maximus and Erector Spinae muscles. Not only is this a great exercise for lower body muscle strength, it also promotes balance and flexibility.

Instructions:

Stand with feet far apart; one foot forward on top of the step and the other foot behind.

Squat down by flexing knee and hip of front leg. Allow heel of rear foot to rise up while knee of rear leg bends slightly until it almost makes contact with the floor.

The hamstring of the front leg should be touching the nearest part of the calf.

Return to original standing position by extending hip and knee of forward leg. Repeat and then continue with the opposite leg.

On the 15th of August norths Fitness held their own “Cupcake Day” to help raise funds for the RSPCA and animals in their care. Staff and members joined together to donate a plate of cupcakes, or a gold coin to eat one (or two). It was

an exciting day of treats and LOTS of energy...although moderation was the key! There were also healthier offerings on the day such as one of Coralie’s favourite family recipes “Choc-Nana Muffins”.

Competitiveness also ran high on the day with Pam Hastwell taking out the title of “Most Creative Cupcake Cook” with her animal cupcakes. However, it was a close competition with second place awarded to Max Nable for her cheerleader cupcakes. Thanks to everyone for their amazing and delicious contributions, norths FITNESS proudly raised nearly $500 for the RSPCA!
