Ross Lovegrove
Born in 1958, Lovegrove studied industrial design at Manchester
Polytechnic and at the Royal College of Art in London. At the beginning of
the 1980s he started work for Frogdesign, an industrial design
consultancy in Germany, where he was assigned to projects for Apple and
Sony. Going on to work across Europe, Ross returned to England in 1986
and established his own practice. Since then he has collaborated with
some of the world’s most outstanding design manufacturers, such as
Luceplan, Cappellini, Moroso, Driade, Tag Heuer, Peugeot, Issey Miyake,
Yamagiwa, Herman Miller, Japan Airline and Toyo Ito Architects, Japan.
He has won many awards including the Japan G Mark federal prize for
‘Japan Airlines Sky Sleeper Solo’ first class seat in 2002, World
Technology Prize in 2005 and Vogue Traveler Ecology Prize for ‘Solar Tree’
in 2007. His work is held in permanent collections in design museums
around the world including Museum of Modern Art, the Design Museum
in London and Vitra Design Museum, Weil Am Rhein. Author of the book
SUPERNATURAL, The work of Ross Lovegrove by Phaidon with essays by
Greg Lynn, Tokujin Yoshioka and Cecil Balmond. Editor of The
International Design Yearbok 2002. Most published designer of the last
decade in Domus Magazine Milan.

This series was created by reeling string around a mold the way thread is spun off a cocoon.
The softness of the light reminiscent of a traditional Japanese portable paper lantern (Bonbori) is
enhanced by the light coming through the double and triple shelters, and brings to mind the image of
light depicted in Junichiro Tanizaki’s “In Praise of Shadows” (In-ei Raisan)

Tokujin Yoshioka
Born in Saga, Japan in 1967. After graduating in
1986, worked under Shiro Kuramata and Issey
Miyake. In 2000, established
TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA INC.
His experimental and innovative creations are highly
evaluated in the world through various projects such
as space and installation design for ISSEY MIYAKE
and SWAROVSKI’s flagship store in Ginza.
Has been collaborating with Cartier,
Hermès, LEXUS TOYOTA, NTT and other noted
companies.
Receiving a great public attention on the paper chair
"Honey-pop"(2001), Yoshioka produced "PANE Chair
- Baking A Bread Chair" by baking fiber structure.
Started optical glass project in 2002 and "Water
Block" is permanently exhibited at Musee d'Orsay,
Paris since 2011. Designed YAMAGIWA’s lighting
“TōFU”, cell phone "MEDIA SKIN" for au design
project, logo and packaging for re-branding of
Japanese famous skin care brand FANCL and others
such as Cassina, Driade, Kartell and Moroso.
Directed exhibitions "Second Nature" at 21_21
DESIGN SIGHT (2008) and Cartier’s special exhibition
“Story of ...” - Memories of Cartier creations (2009).
In 2010 “Tokujin Yoshioka _SPECTRUM” in Seoul,
Korea and “Sensing Nature” at Mori museum were
held. In 2013, the Museum of Contemporary Art
Tokyo organized “TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA Crystallize’’.
His works are a part of collection at the Museum of
Modern Art (MoMA), Centre National d’ Art et de
Culture Georges Pompidou, Victoria and Albert
Museum, Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum
and Vitra Design Museum.
Received many awards including "Elle Deco
International Design Awards (EDIDA) and became
the designer of the year at "Design Miami 2007",
"Architektur & Wohnen 2009", and
"Maison & Objet 2012".
