Thisisatremendousopportunitytoengagethecommunity-tobringtogethervolunteersandprofessionalsengagedinwildlifeobservations,conservationbiology,roadplanning,engineering,andmaintenance.

AbouttheauthorsKariGunsonhasworkedfor20yearscollectingwildlifeon-roaddatatoinformwildlifemitigationprojectsthroughoutNorthAmericaincludingBanffNationalPark,Montana,Nebraska,andOntario.ShelivesinPeterborough,OntariocentredamonghermanyroadprojectswithSpecies-at-Riskfreshwaterturtlesandsnakes.Theseprojectsincludeplanningfor,designingandimplementingroadmitigationsolutionssuchaswildlifeexclusionfencingalongroads.Inaddition,shehasbeenmonitoringOntario'sfirstwildlifeoverpassforwildlifeusesince2011.Herworkhascontributedto15peer-reviewedpublishedarticlesinthefieldsofRoadEcologyandGeographicInformationScience.
Dr.FredSchuelerhasbeendocumentingspecies'distributionsfromroadkillssincehis1960sboyhoodinConnecticut,andhasbeendoingdetailedroadsurveyssincesurveyingtheherpetofaunaofOntario'sBrucePeninsulain1983-1990.Withhiswife,AletaKarstad,hehasengagedinnaturalhistoryexplorationallacrossCanada.Aletadrives,andFredclickstheGPSintoadatabasethatnowcontainsabout25,000roaddatarecords.Theirdiverseprojectsinclude:snails&slugs,roadkill,invasiveroadsideplants,andasurveyofofturtle-crossingsigns.Whilemanyoftheirbooksandreportsinvolveroaddata,mostofFred'speer-reviewedroadecologypublicationshavebeencollaborationswithKari.
