KNIGHT OF THE MONTH This months Knight of the Month has been a member of EDW Council for many years. I would like to honor Paul Kemp as our November Knight of the Month. Paul has volunteered his time as a Redcoat waiter for many of those years. Paul also attends and contributes to a host of EDW events including the EDW Golf Club excursions. Congratulations Paul Kemp as our November Knight of the Month and thank you for all your help. FAMILY OF THE MONTH This month I would like to honor John White, his wife Jennifer and their daughter Allison as our Family of the Month. John has been an active member of EDW since he joined the Knights of Columbus. In the past he has served as a member of the Board and this year he serves as a Council Officer. John is also our “resident historian”. If you’re interested in the history of our Council Home mansion see John’s articles on the EDW website under History Project. Most times you can find the White’s enjoying the Supper Club on Friday nights or the Council Home on Tuesday Burger night. Congratulations John, Jennifer and baby Allison as our November Family of the Month. CAPITAL CAMPAIGN IN THE SECOND YEAR Hi folks–Roger Furey, PGK here. I have decided to lend a hand on this vital Capital Campaign. I do this because I am one of the Senior Members–having joined the Council in 1953 at the age of 26. Much has gone on in the many years since then. As you know our Council Home was purchased in 1951–the first pool built in 1954 followed by the other pools. Our Activity Hall opened for business in 1961. Over the years we have accomplished much and made many improvements to our property. As Jim Savarese, Campaign Chairman, noted in the October Knight Life our goal for this campaign is set at $250,000 by Labor Day, 2008. We have received contributions from 142 individuals for which we are very grateful and this appeal is not directed at them. I feel quite confident that with all of the Senior Members–Honorary Mem- bers–Honorary Life Members-Past Grand Knights and our beloved widows we have a number well over 1,000. This is an appeal to you to give serious consideration to do what you are able to do. The amount does not have to be $1,000.00 because we are quite sure that such an amount might be considered by some to be excessive. We know that our Senior Members are mostly concerned with their own welfare first and this we can appreciate. Maybe you would consider including in your will a donation to the COLUMBUS CLUB OF ARLINGTON INC–CAPITAL CAMPAIGN. This coming May of 2008 our Council will be celebrating out 85thYear. Can you please consider taking the time to send our Council a birthday present? If anyone has a question or questions regarding this Capital Cam- paign please contact me and I will try to answer your question(s)–or I will get the necessary information to you. In Charity, Unity and Fraternity, Roger Furey, PGK 1961-62 BLOOD BANK NEWS Ray Fioramonti The next EDW Blood Drive is scheduled for November 18. Our donor numbers have been dwindling and while in the past we used to have 50/60 donations each time we have dropped to 30 or so for the last few drives. The problems seem to be several, our core group of donors is aging, previous travel to a number of foreign countries, and some routine medications all impact eligibility. If you’ve not donated and aren’t in any of these “denied” categories we’d love to see you in November. If you are concerned about donating, drop in and see us to find out if you are eligible. The need for blood is more acute now than ever.
