hank you all so much!
My KIWIN’S Training Conference was such
an enjoyable event for me to host, and I’m so
grateful for the turn-out and the reception! From
veteran board members to freshmen attending
their first event, it was a pleasure seeing all of
you learning and meeting one another. Thank
you once again for coming out, and I can’t
wait to see you at the approaching FALL RALLY!
Even though we have about another
month to go before it’s finally Winter Break, at
least we have some exciting KIWIN’S events to
look forward to :) so finish off your winter school
season strong. I know I’m trying my best to!
Also, I know you seniors must be stressing
out over college applications right now.. I’m
with you guys on that one! But hopefully, you
guys are allmooooost done with that. Good
luck, KIWINNER’S! :) With love,
Halena Ngo

Spotlight on... The creation of OCSA KIWIN’S by President
Mindy Pham!
Official JET Division Newsletter November Issue Page 2
OCSA KIWIN'S was made over a cup of tea, a
plate of really bad pasta and personal tragedy.
My cousin, Helene Vo, in the somber, slightly
numb aftermath of consoling me after I had suf-
fered the loss of two family members, heard me
complain about the travesty of club atmosphere
at OCSA. OCSA is a unique school, in that we are
75% female. Not only that, we have a wide range
of students coming from everywhere in the OC,
some as far as San Diego or Big Bear, only to stay
daily at school until 5 or even 10 PM most days,
afflicting even myself and most of OCSA KIWIN'S
current board. Those factors and our tiny 2,500
population, have made our most popular club be
comprised of 20 members, half of which actually
participate. It was a rocky road.
We've had major setbacks, both personal and
technical, but OCSA KIWIN'S is still standing. We
have rubble by our feet and ruins at our sides, but
we stand stronger with each regeneration. OCSA
KIWIN'S is far from being a powerhouse, but when
I leave high school this year, I will leave knowing
that the foundations for it have been properly
hammered down for future generations if it's the
last thing I do. I'm still a little neurotic, quite emo-
tional, and a tad dysfunctional, but hey, the
best art comes from tragedy, and OCSA plans to
make KIWIN'S an art.
Dedicated to my cousin, of which this wouldn't be
possible without her. Thank you so much.
Mindy Pham

Wassup in Jet Division! On the day of October 26th, KIWIN’S brought joy and laughter to
the Green Valley Clubhouse. Every year, on Halloween, children
would come in their costumes for a day of fun and activities.
Behind the little children’s smile, is a KIWIN’S member. Mem-
bers helped out with the arts and crafts booth, tending to every
need of the children. Each game was monitored and run by a
member, such as the donut eating
game and musical chairs. The chil-
dren were able to spend the best
Halloween party of their lives. Near
the end, a piñata was available.
Candy soon dropped and kids
quickly ran towards it. Once the
event ended, members helped clean
up. Everything was put back into storage, waiting until the next
time they were going to be used.
-Angela Nguyen,Fountain Valley KIWIN’S Publicist
On Saturday October 12th,
our club members spent their
morning walking around the
beach and picking up trash.
We spent 2 hours while it
was hot and sunny to pick up
small shards of glass and trash. Although it was not the
most exciting event, we made the most of it and had fun
as our members bonded and got to know each other
more by helping each other out. One would keep tally of
what was picked up, one would hold the bags, and oth-
ers had gloves and canes to pick up trash. Some mem-
bers came not knowing one another as it had been one
of our first events, but at the end of the event, all of our
members knew each other well.
-Jasmine Nguyen, Edison KIWIN’S President
October 31 wasn’t just
Halloween. It was the
Segerstrom Key Club/
KIWIN’S Halloween So-
cial that took place after
school in the infamous
Room with the View on
campus! Members from
both clubs started bonding with a couple icebreakers and
games, such as Mafia. Shortly after, officers from both clubs
arrived with pizza, chips, and drinks. When food began to run
out, several officers went out to get more, while the other offi-
cers entertained social attendees with scary stories. Both advi-
sors from both clubs even shared scary stories of their own!
Unfortunately, members could not watch The Conjuring due to
technical issues, but overall the social was a great success and
helped the two clubs bond! #sfhskfam
-Tony Do, Segerstrom KIWIN’S Vice President
La Quinta KIWIN’S
volunteered at
McGarvin Intermedi-
ate’s Back to School
Night on October 3rd,
2013! Members as-
sisted at the various stations, including the annual Book
Fair in the Media Center. From there, members helped
parents and students purchase books and other knick-
knacks at the front desk, restacked books on its corre-
sponding shelves, acted as coordinators by leading par-
ents to their designated classrooms, and much more! It
was a great way for members to reconnect with
McGarvin teachers and mingle amongst middle school
students. At the end of the night, the Back to School
Night was a success and that concluded another pro-
ductive volunteer event for LQ!

Wassup in Jet Division! On the October 27th, Marina KIWIN'S, along with Marina Key Club and many other schools, volunteered for the Surf City Derby. We volunteered in down-town Huntington Beach, which is lo-cated around Main Street and PCH in Huntington Beach. Runners and walk-ers were all given delicious water and electrolyte while running, and at the end were given food energy in the form of crackers, bananas, and granola bars.
Marina KIWIN’S had the opportunity to volunteer alongside other schools, so they were able to increase their interaction skills and leadership skills through this. In addition to handing out water and food, KIWIN'S members also kept the spirit of the runners up. Some were also able to help by moving tables, boxes, and other various needs that people needed help with. Overall, Marina KIWIN'S had a very spirited and fun time volun-teering for the run and plan on volunteering again!
-Christine Chau, Marina KIWIN’S Historian
On Saturday, Octo-
ber 26, Segerstrom
KIWIN’S volun-
teered at Pacific
Symphony – Hal-
loween Masquer-
ade at the Seger-
strom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa! Members ar-
rived at 7:30 in the morning to prepare for a long day of
volunteering. In this semi-formal event, volunteers
helped at several booths inside the concert hall, from
arts & crafts to percussions to meeting professional mu-
sicians. Overall, it was an incredibly fun event for eve-
ryone! This Pacific Symphony was the first of five con-
certs that will take place later in the 2013-14 year.
-Tony Do, Segerstrom KIWIN’S Vice President
La Quinta KIWIN’S volun-
teered at the OC Great Park
Pumpkin Harvest on Octo-
ber 26th, 2013. This was La
Quinta KIWIN’S first time
volunteering at the Pumpkin
Harvest event and it was a
very worthwhile and productive day! Members were stationed at
the pumpkin decorating station, face painting station, and the
pumpkin field’s train ride station. At the pumpkin decorating sta-
tion, members helped kids decorate their bright, orange pump-
kins with little pom poms, braids of yarn, glitter, and googly
eyes! They also walked around and tended to parents when
supplies were low, so it was great interacting with both the chil-
dren and their parents. Members at the face painting station
were guiding parents and their kids to the designated lines.
-Jessica Tran, La Quinta KIWIN’S Vice President
On the sunny day of October
20th, Fountain Valley KIWIN’S
was getting ready for the first
social of the new 2013/2014
year. The goal of this was to be
able to meet all the new mem-
bers and for everyone to bond.
The day started off with the
“Name Game,” where the members got into a circle and
said their name, grade, and one interesting fact. Follow-
ing that, many new games were played in order for eve-
ryone to get to know each other. During lunch, members
were able to interact with each other more. In one sec-
tion was everyone playing volleyball, another was taking
pictures at the photo booth, and lastly, a section was
just talking to each other. Later on, members were able
to play Mafia, laughing and accusing each other of be-
ing the mafia. One new member said, “This is my first
event, but I already love KIWIN’S!”

CLUB PROJECT OF THE MONTH: Fountain Valley
This year, the students of FVHS were able to showcase this spirit
to the community with the Halloween Club Carnival. Clubs
that wanted to participate in the carnival were asked to pick
a food item to sell and also bring Halloween themed games
that kids of all ages could enjoy playing. FV KIWIN’S chose to
sell a classic American favorite dessert: the strawberry short-
cake. We also brought along two carnival games: a ping
pong ball toss into the mouths of hungry pumpkins and a
witch hat ring toss. Even though it was a school night during
one the busiest weeks of the year, we still had 40 members
come to help for the year.
MANATEE OF THE MONTH: Gordon Fang
Gordon Fang has shown incredible dedication to KIWIN’S
since he joined three years ago! Now a senior, Gordon
has been going all out with service, especially in Octo-
ber! Not only has he gone to every event in the month,
Gordon has went above and beyond by helping Seger-
strom officers with numerous errands such as driving to
stores to pick up goodies for fundraisers and giving rides
to members to events! His personality shines with cha-
risma and spirit, showing off that KIWIN’S spirit without any
shame. All in all, Gordon is an outstanding member of
Segerstrom and will be repping the Jaguars come Fall
Rally and DCON!

So How Do I Support PTP At Fall Rally?
Pediatric trauma is the #1 leading cause of children in America, while being
entirely preventable at the same time! This is the reason why our KIWIN’S
District has made PTP our Minor Emphasis. For those of you who are going to
Fall Rally, great start! The money you’ve paid will all be donated to PTP
already! Additionally, such events and products including coin wars, T-shirt
sales, and District Board pieing auctions will be raising even more money for
PTP! So bring your money and some spare change, and let’s get fundraising!
