OAA Council approved a proposal advanced by the Interns' Committee to establish a nonvoting seat on OAA Council for an Intern Architect at its September 22 meeting. Interns will be invited to participate in the upcoming Council election, along with all members eligible to vote, by voting for an individual to fill the new seat on Council from among nominated Intern Architects. depth about other aspects of the profession, regulation, theAssociation’s structure, as well as numerous programs andservices. It’s a chance to gain a wealth of information, give backto and influence the future of the profession. Councillors sit for a three (3) year term. The terms commence onJanuary 1, 2017 and end December 31, 2019. There will be five(5) vacancies on Council.  Nominations open October 3, 2016.

Letter sent to CBOs and Directors of Planning

CBOs and Chief Planners Reminded About SitePlan Approval Requirements In an updated version of a letter originally sent October 2012, theOAA sent a reminder to Chief Planners and Chief BuildingOfficials that all designs submitted as part of the site planapproval process should be prepared, sealed and signed by anarchitect (subject to the exemptions within the Architects Act).The letter reiterated that protection of public safety is the goal ofeach of our respective professions, and asked that any infractionsbe reported to the OAA. The letter is available in the Government Relations Portal underthe tag SPA.

recipients. The inaugural Governor General’s Medal inLandscape Architecture was also presented. Congratulations toall of the winners!

2017 OAA Committee Vacancies Volunteers are vital to the work of the OAA. Diversity of voices,opinions, skills and knowledge is critical to the decision makingprocess within the OAA. Please consider volunteering on one ofthe 13 Committees which have vacancies for the 2017 ­ 2019term, or if you know someone who would be a terrific addition,please encourage them to respond.

The submission deadline is October 14, 2016.

2017 Profiles Directory Theme Building on the OAA's public awareness campaign, the theme willaddress how the OAA is encouraging a dialogue and awarenessabout how architecture is part of our daily lives.

By presenting an overview of the OAA's stories and campaignsillustrating the possibility, influence and impact of architecture, thereader will see the evolution and depth of reach of the publicawareness initiatives. 

Public engagement is the next step in broadening awareness. OnOctober 4 2016, we will launch a microsite specifically focused onpublic engagement, with this very theme of “Architecture impactseveryone, everyday”. Stay Tuned!

OAA President, Toon Dreessen along with local Councillors andExecutive Director, Kristi Doyle are touring the province to talkwith the membership about key Council priorities and initiatives aswell as discussing current local issues. These informal sessionsare designed to encourage member feedback and provide adirect link to members of OAA Council.
