From Our Pastor. . .

In-Person Safety Protocol Updates - The Council of Deacons in their monthly meeting last week concluded that we may safely relax our protocols at this time. Our attendance is building, and we need the additional seating space. So, they made the following changes:

* All pews will be available for seating * Maintain as much distance from others as

individually comfortable * Wearing of masks will be left up to individual discretion * Handshakes or other direct contact will be left to the discretion of individuals * The choir will participate live rather than by recording * Any convenient exit may be used

The deacons recommend that anyone who feels ill or has symptoms of any illness, including the flu or a cold, should stay home and participate in the service via the livestream broadcast on the church website, Facebook, Vimeo, or YouTube. The Media Team will continue to livestream the service indefinitely. Church leadership will continue to monitor health conditions and update our protocols as needed.

2022 Budget Proposal and Nominating Committee Report – It is time for us to review and approve our 2022 Nominating Committee Report and Church Budget. We will follow the same process this year as approved by our Council of Deacons last year.

A letter was mailed last Friday to each resident church member. This letter contains copies of the 2022 Nominating Committee Report and 2022 Budget Proposal

along with a ballot. Please follow the instructions on the ballot to complete it and then return it to the church office either by mail or in person. Our church office is open Monday to Thursday 9am – 5pm and Friday from 9am – noon. It is always a good idea to call us at (276) 628-8126 in advance of your visit to let us know that you plan to stop by. Also, you can place your completed ballot in a sealed envelope and hand it to me on Sunday morning November 21 or 28. Your ballot must be received by mail or in person at the church office no later than noon on Thursday, December 2. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of these matters and for voting according to the Lord’s leading.

Budget Question-and-Answer Meeting – Roger Garrett, our Finance Team chairperson, Willie Morris, our Council of Deacons chairperson, and I will present an overview of our 2022 budget and entertain any questions that you may have at the beginning of our Prayer & Bible Study meeting on Wednesday, November 17 at 6:00pm in the chapel. You may participate in this meeting either in-person or via ZOOM. You should also feel free to call me, Roger, or Wille in advance with any questions that you may have. A link to the “ZOOM Wednesday Night Prayer & Bible Study” meeting is available on our church website at https://www.abingdonbaptist.org/zoom-connections/.

SCAM Alert! – There were several reports last week from church members and friends of our church who received text messages, emails, or phone calls purportedly from either me or another staff member asking for gift cards or monetary donations for shut-ins with cancer or other needs. This is a scam. Be wary of such calls and messages. Delete these emails/messages and block the phone number or email address that sent them. This matter has been reported to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Please be careful and call the church office or me directly if you have any questions about a contact.

Continued from Pastor Bill...

Operation Christmas Child Collection Concludes Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. The OCC mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The shoeboxes are shipped outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease;

and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to pick up and pack your shoebox for OCC this week. Shoeboxes are available in the sanctuary or church office. Each shoebox contains instructions regarding what to pack and how to provide for sending your box.

Please bring your completed shoeboxes to the church no later than Sunday, November 21.
