RESPECT LIFE “‘Perhaps one of your friends has become pregnant unexpectedly. As someone who has been there, I encourage you to support your friend in her new journey of being a mother. Not sure how to help or what to say?’ Learn more at www.goo.gl/e60H2Z.” — USCCB 2015-16 Respect Life Program “10 Ways to Support Her When She’s Unexpectedly Expecting” – Tradition teaches us Christ was conceived on the Feast of the Annunciation. We will watch the parallel development of “Joseph” in the womb beginning on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) until December 25. The Office of Human Life and Dignity is making available a series of bulletin messages describing the fetal development of “Joseph.” Each week we will send out the messages to the parishes. Please consider inserting these messages in the bulletin for the upcoming weeks and each week through December 25.

Fetal Development of "Joseph” October 18 (week 31) I must be getting younger. The wrinkles I had everywhere are slowly disappearing as I gain more and more weight. I used to have a big head, but now my body is catching up. I can move my eyes, but it is still pretty dark in here. I can hear my mom. I can’t wait to see her. Joseph takes mom’s breath away as he kicks her lungs and ribs. The third trimester is filled with aches and pains and general discomfort for Mom, but she knows that soon she will see her baby. “I was a stranger and you welcomed me…whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:35,40)

Knights of Columbus of Transfiguration of Jesus, the Knights will sponsor the

Rosary on the 5th Sunday (and the Saturday night Mass) when there are 5 Sundays in the Month. The next month with five Sundays is November, so on November 29th, the First Sunday of Advent, the Rosary will be led by a Knight starting twenty minutes before the scheduled Mass. The Knights Social will be on the October 24th. The Knights of Columbus food pantry collection As always we appreciate any donations. Please bring them to the Mass Saturday and Sunday. Children’s Choir: The current schedule for Parish music ministry activities: Children's Choir Practice - Wednesdays 3:45-4:30 Regular Choir Practice - Saturdays 3:00 Christmas Choir Practice - Saturdays 4:00 If you are interested in participating in any of these groups or if you play an instrument and would like to get involved, please call Lara at (910) 548-0505. DEAR PARISHONERS OF TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH: The FOOD PANTRY at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church is in critical need of volunteers. This year 622 individual families from Duplin and Pender Counties received food. The Food Pantry is receiving/purchasing food on Tuesdays and distributing food every Thursday from 2-4pm to on average 70 families per week. We need to increase our volunteer base. This would allow for a rotating schedule that will provide volunteers the opportunity to work as much as they desire. To date we have provided 78,700 pounds of food, by way of scheduling families a pick up time every four weeks. This has resulted in 2,476 boxes of food being provided to many needy families. In the book by Steven Scott ‘The Richest Man Who Ever Lived: King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth, & Happiness, He provides the secret to happiness: “be grateful for all the things in our lives, by being generous,” which is to say - live a life of stewardship, a life where our time, talent, and our treasure are all put at the service of Christ and His Gospel. I sincerely hope that enough volunteers will come forward to fill this critical need that serves so many needy people within our community. Those interested please contact; Mike Orlowski 910- 285-5041 E-MAIL: [email protected] PARISH COUNCIL MEETING The meetings are open to all registered parishioners. Contact Huck Booz if you wish to attend. If you wish to speak at the meeting, it must be on the agenda. Minutes of the meetings are recorded and available upon request. The November meeting will be held on Thursday November 12 at 10:00 am.

Our next CD Discussion Group Meeting will be Monday, November 2nd in the Church Hall. We will be discussing the CD Finding the Fullness of Faith by Stephen Ray. Stephen Ray shares with us his amazing conversion to Catholicism and explains why he is convinced this is the Church founded by Christ over two thousand years ago. Our December CD Discussion Group Meeting will be held on Monday, December 14th in the Church Hall. All Things Are Possible For God by Fr. Joshua Waltz will be the next CD that we will be discussing. Fr. Waltz shares an incredible vocation story that involves heartbreak, robbers, Europe, and several miracles - all showing that there is nothing more exciting than a life lived for Jesus Christ. A pot luck supper will following the discussions. Please bring a dish to share. Faith Formation classes have started for the 2015-2916 year. All classes, Confirmation and 1st and 2nd grades, will meet in the Church Hall. October classes will meet on Sunday, October 18th, and Sunday, October 25th at 9:30 am. Classes will not meet on the 1st Sunday of each month because of the Parish breakfast but will meet every following Sunday. All students must attend all class sessions in order to be ready to receive the sacraments. Attendance at all of the classes is extremely important and mandatory in order to be ready to receive the sacraments in the Spring. A class schedule has been handed out to all students. We would like to see all of the students attending either the 8:30 (Mass in English) or the 11:00 (Mass in Spanish) with their parents each week. This is very important for all children and families to come together with the parish to reinforce their commitment to their religious education. This year we have 4 students who will receive the sacrament of Baptism, 6 students who will receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist, and 14 students who will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. Please put these days on your calendar: March 4th Lenten Penance Service 7 pm Confirmation Students only April 2nd Full day retreat for all students and First Reconciliation April 16th Confirmation at Santa Clara 11 am May 1st May Crowning of Blessed Mother 8:30 and 11:00 Masses May 15th First Eucharist 11:00 Mass Julie Couch will be holding a session, once a month, for all students in the parish who have already received the sacraments and would like to continue their religious education. She will begin the classes in November. If you are interested in having your child attend this class, please contact Julie at 910 665-1068 for more information. Traveling: For those who are interested in keeping up on the latest bulletin and calendar information, please visit our church’s website. A four week course will be offered at ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 18737 US Hwy 17 North, Hampstead, NC, beginning on Wednesday October 21, and running for four consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30. The course is written and presented by Fr. John Durbin, STL. The course will offer an overall vision of the council, how it happened and what it said, and offer a chance to read through various passages of the texts for a solid understanding. The class is offered for both adult formation and/or Catechist Certification through the Diocese. Registration is available through the Diocese of Raleigh Doorways webpage. - Catholic Campaign for Human Development Parish Appeal Across the country, work is being done to fight poverty at its roots in places that offer inadequate education, tolerate unaffordable housing, and turn away from communities in need. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is justice and charity in action through the Church. CCHD funds local community groups that work to change the systems that keep them in poverty. Through CCHD and its beneficiaries, we manifest Catholic social teaching and carry out Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor. / . . . to proclaim liberty to captives / and recovery of sight to the blind, / to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18). In the last 10 years, nearly $1,000,000 in grant funding has been distributed to local organizations in our diocese. Your support during the November collection will create lasting change. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection.
