Firstly, the issue of match-day paperwork has been a focus on the back of a mistake that cost Narre Warren full forward Kerem Baskaya what has turned out to be an important goal. Kerem was reported to have kicked 21 goals in round 12 which was a record haul, but an error later identified and verified, meant that he should have had 22 goals against his name. Unfortunately that became a bigger issue when Cranbourne’s Marc Holt topped the mark with 22 majors the week after. It has since been confirmed that both players are the joint holders of the league goal kicking record, and both deserve the plaudits of all across the MPNFL. However the entire problem, investigation and public statement could have been avoided by a little more scrutiny to the submission of match-day paperwork and that is the lesson from this event. Particularly at this time of the season, too much is often left to too few and mistakes become more frequent and more prevalent. Club administrators need to maintain their commitment and system until after the final siren of their club’s season. We are very lucky to have many dedicated people doing these voluntary jobs across the MPNFL and any assistance that club members can provide will continue to make their lives easier. Another big focus over the coming weeks will be the finals series of our neighbouring associated junior competitions the FDJFL, MPJFL and SEJ which start their finals this weekend and many MPNFL clubs will have vested interests in the performance of their feeder teams in pursuit of a flag or two. It is timely to remind all our players, officials, members and supporters that the media spotlight is always brighter during this time and, while we encourage all to support their junior sides, there is no margin for error as far as behaviour is concerned. Many kids and, more importantly parents, are looking for senior clubs to join and a good encouraging and upstanding representation from players and members at junior finals might just tip the balance in favour of yours over another. Watching the stars of the future on the big stage is always good for the game. On the Radar Most clubs in our league are now running events and late-season raffles with the aim of increasing and/or topping up their revenues to make end of year budgets. We encourage all club members and supporters to check their club notes in the Football Record and Casey Cardinia Chronicle, and support these functions and events. Running football clubs is an expensive business in both time and money, and any financial assistance offered will be greatly appreciated by those volunteers doing the job for love. Historians Formation of Frankston Football ClubAt the time of the formation of a formal football league (the PFA in 1908) Frankston had already been playing for 21 years. Confirmation of the formation of the club in 1887 can be found in an article that appeared in the South Bourke and Mornington Journal of 16 May 1888 which stated “However, under all circumstances, the Frankston players, who proved so successful last season, found on this occasion a team, though young, worthy of their steel.” It appears that the original club may have been a com-bination of the Frankston bicycle and football clubs because at a meeting in late May 1906 it was agreed that funds from the bicycle club be handed over to the football club (Mornington Standard 2 June 1906).

Club ColoursFirst mention of the football club’s colours appeared in the AGM of 1907. “The meeting resolved that the colours of the club would be red and blue guernsey, blue knicks, and black socks. Mr. Connell moved and Mr. McKenzie seconded, that players be forced to wear the colours of the club.” (Mornington Standard 20 April 1907). For how long these colours were worn or when the club changed to the now familiar red and black is unknown. However, it seems likely that the change of colours occurred very early following the formation of the PFA.

Formation of the PFAAt the AGM on 29 March 1908 “The (Frankston)Sec-retary was instructed to write to clubs in the Peninsula with a view to forming an Association. It was thought that Mornington, Hastings, Tyabb and Frankston, and probably Dromana and Carrum would join. This would form an Association where the travelling would not be too far for the competing teams and the rivalry would be keen for the Peninsula premiership, especially if some gentleman donated premiership caps or a premiership pennant.” (Morn-ington Standard 4 April 1908).

PremiershipsThe red and blacks won their first Pre-miership in 1911 in the PFA, going on to win 6, 1919, 1922, 1923 and 1931. The club added another two Premierships in 1929 in the PDFA and 1931 in the PD-JFL. Amalgamation of the two competi-tions to form the MPFL saw Frankston become the most dominant club winning a total of 10 senior Premierships 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1949, 1952 and 1961 in A grade whilst B grade won in 1938, 1946 and 1947. Add Reserve pennants in 1954, 1957, 1959, 196 and 1964 gave a total of 15 senior flags.

The club was also the dominant team in the junior competition winning the 3rds title 14 times in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1960, 1963, 1964, 1967, 1969 and 1971. On top of that 3 fourth 18 pennants in 1965, 1969 and 1978.Since 1987 and the formation of the MPNFL the club has been subdued in relation to Premierships, winning only 2 Senior 1991 and 2009, 2 reserve flags 1995 and 1998 and 2 thirds 1995 and 2010.

AdministratorsLooking at early Frankston history and the administra-tion looks like a who’s who of the League over the jour-ney. Presidents of the club include S. Plowman (1896-1907 and again 1928-31), Herb McCulluch, Henry Rogerson, William Oates, Charles Parnell (1954-60), Harold McComb and Dr Maxwell. Club secretaries in-clude Jim Jolly, Charles Jewell, Ray Downie (1946-61, N. Parker (1966-72) whilst looking after money were J. Trevaskis (1946-59), M. Hines (1979-87). In the mod-ern era we have seen Les Swanson, Travis Payze and P. Craig at the helm, Rob Cross (1995-98, again 2000 finishing 2008-10) as secretary, Eric Mushins (2001-07). Daryl Parker is one that stands out amongst these legends of Frankston being President (1984 again 1986-88), Treasurer (1992-93 and 1995-2002, and once more 2004-07). In 125 years the club has produced many great leaders.

CoachingFrankston were one of the first clubs on the Peninsula to have a coach when the appointed P. Maybury as leader in 1922 until that time captains played the role as team leader. Names such as C. Croskell, Bill Baxter, Cliff Harry, Stan Peters, Ted Turner, Brighton Diggins, Frank Graham, Keith McKenzie, Jack Hamilton, Jack Sales, Alan Wickes, Brian Cameron, Ted Rosenbrock, Pat Flaherty, Bill Thompson, Chris Bull, Leigh Stewart and current Coach Tony Blackford have led the club. A greater list of names has not been seen at MPNFL clubs.

Frankston Joins the VFA – Frankston Peninsula FormedIn 1966 Frankston joined the VFA as the Frankston Dol-phins. A number of supporters and players elected not to continue with the club as a VFL affiliate. Instead, they decided that the Frankston Football Club should continue to play in the MPFL. As the Frankston Dol-phins retained Frankston Park as their home base the MPFL group had to find a new ground. They also had to be known as Frankston Peninsula to distinguish them from other Frankston teams. The new side, Frankston Peninsula, retained the original red and black Frankston jumpers while the Dolphins had to change their jump-er design. Eventually, because of the similarity to the Essendon jumpers the MPFL team became known as the Frankston Bombers, the name by which it is known today. In 1975 Frankston Rovers and Frankston Peninsula merged. It appears this may have come about to over-come problems caused by both clubs trying to recruit from the same area.

Grounds UsedFor various reasons the Frankston Bombers have been based at a number of grounds around the Frankston area. After being based at Frankston Park for some 80 years the following grounds have been used – Kananook, Overport Park, Bruce Park and Baxter Park (Greg Beck Oval).Frankston Bombers took up residence at Greg Beck Oval in 1981. The first game played there was in Round 18 when Frankston Bombers played Chelsea. As was fit-ting for the first game, Frankston Bombers 6.15 (51) de-feated Chelsea 3.11 (29). First-year player Barry Eaton kicked the first goal for the seniors on this historic day.

Great PlayersClearly the 37 players who made it to the “big time” in the VFL/AFL were above average players. Indeed, some such as Kelvin Moore, Travis Payze and Gary Colling were standouts. How-ever, there have also been some outstanding players at the local level. Marty Clarkson is the club’s games record holder (245) and has captained the Interleague side and served as President. Mark “Twirl” Garrett played 236 senior games in his total of 308 club games, including the 1991 senior premiership. Leigh Stewart played 215 senior games, was a member of the 1995 2nds premiership, and won the seniors MPNFL Best and Fairest in 2001. Tony Blackford the Bombers’ pre-sent coach twice won a MPFL Best and Fairest (1986 3rds and 1991 Seniors), played in the 1991 Seniors premiership and coached the 2009 premiership side. Many great stars of the past also should rate a mention, Frank Graham, Cliff Harry, Bill Prendergast, Jim Jolly, Brian Brearley, Keith Ricardo, Stan Peters, Jack Sales, Norm Tindal and Barry Graham among the best.

Legends“Opinions are like noses, everyone’s got one” (Denis Pagan). Legend status is always a controversial topic. However, two who would at least have to be in the mix would be Daryl Parker and Greg Beck.

Daryl Parker commenced as a player with the 4ths play-ing in premierships in 1969, 1971 and 1972. While he only played 1 senior game he finished up with a total of 99 club games. Along the way he has had extensive experience as an administrator including President, Treasurer and League Delegate.

Greg Beck first played in 1975. Since then he has been a club stalwart and “Jack of all trades.” Much of his support goes unnoticed by everyone except the Com-mittee. For his dedication and support, particularly re-garding the Number 6 Oval at Baxter Park, the club was very pleased when the Frankston Council agreed with the club’s submission to name its home base the Greg Beck Oval.

The Olympics & AFL FootyThe Games of the 30th Olympiad in London has been a wonderful extravaganza for the sports fan. It has, without fail, dished up night after night of unbelievable exploits from local athletes and global superstars. For those of us slightly obsessed with sports of any kind, who wasn’t on the edge of their seat during the archery or the ping pong; marveled at the strength and flexibility of the gymnasts; the gut busting efforts of the rowers; the grace of the equestrian events; the bravery of the divers; the sheer power of the weightlifters and the chiseled bodies of those on the track and field? But all that being said, it will be the local footy that we go back to this weekend, and the local footy that we will cheer with the passion that will attest where our hearts truly lie.And with finals footy and netball now on the line – we cheer and feel the pain ever more keenly than any time during the season. The Olympics has been a great inspirer for the local athlete – particularly the kids. All my son wanted to do was to get to Auskick this weekend so he could ‘run as fast as Bolt’ when getting the footy, tackle like a European shot putter, and kick the footy as accurately as Patty Mills when in front of the goals. Not to the running track did my son see the glories of the Olympics play out in his boyish dreams, but on the football field – taking the mantra of faster, higher, stronger onto the oval. His mates have been running, jumping, throwing, and wrestling with all their might at school for the last two weeks – complete with the overblown commentary and simulated crowd noises. The Olympic Games have inspired them to think about sport, and to get active during the cold weeks of winter. This is the great ripple in the pond of the Olympic Games that we will see on football fields in the weeks and years to come.

The other talking point of the Olympics has been the performance of the Australian team, with many in the media telling us that we have shamefully underperformed. Many of you may have had the same thought as me…how good the Australian Olympic team would be if there was no AFL football to strip the cream of the athletic crop from the ‘fringe’ sports that have a global market and a spot in the Olympics? How would Barry Hall have gone in the boxing ring with a lifetime of experience and training? Could Juddy have made it in the 400m? Nic Natinui could surely have made a high jump squad, and Scott Pendlebury made the choice to play footy rather than basketball when he was well on the way to becoming a Boomer.I could see Andrew Walker and Isaac Smith in the 5km run, Scott Thompson lifting massive weights, Matty Kruezer dominating the net in the volleyball, mad Jake King on the Greco Roman wrestling mat, Matthew Pavlich pulling a canoe through the rapids, and the fleet footed Cyril Rioli wielding the rapier with lightening speed.I can’t help but to think that the strength of Australian Rules Football has been to the detriment of the Australian Olympic team – we are blessed in our game with the best athletes in Australia. When the siren goes this weekend we will see our own boys and girls competing in the sports they love; inspired by what they have seen in London, thinking about the effort required to succeed at the top level, and taking their own dreams of gold over the white line onto the field and the court.Good luck to all teams this weekend.Jock allenCommunications and Events Manager

Peninsula PreviewMoment of TruthBy Simon McEvoy – Leader Newspaper GroupTHEY’VE been hot, cold and everything in between this season – and today SEAFORD and CHELSEA battle it out for a finals berth. It’s become clearer as the season has gone on that either the Tigers or Seagulls would fill fifth spot.Three weeks out from the finals, it’s moment-of-truth time for both.Seaford and Chelsea have been looking forward to this game for weeks, knowing full well what it meant. Both have had some dazzling wins and morale-zapping losses this year. It’s fair to say both have been struggling for form in recent weeks. The Tigers were swamped by Pines last week, and the Seagulls were tossed aside by a determined Mt Eliza. Now is the time to find form.Chelsea took the points against Seaford back in round seven, but injuries and the like have taken a toll since.Flag threat KARINGAL shouldn’t have too many problems accounting for MORNINGTON at Ballam Park. The Bulls are being driven by not one but a whole bunch of in-form players. They pride themselves on their “SA’s” (selfless acts) and they have been piling up in recent weeks. Playing-coach Brendan Dunne has shown the way with his fearless style of play, while David Hirst and Michael Burke continue to sparkle with their class.Building nicely, Karingal has won its past four games and has averaged 18 goals in the past fortnight. Cocky Hay continues to provide a reliable avenue to goal.Mornington was thumped by Karingal earlier in the season and it’s hard to see the Bulldogs turning the tables today.Stephen Ryan has PINES playing good footy and the Pythons justifiably believe they can add another big scalp before the season is done and dusted. Today they host fourth-placed BONBEACH.After losing eight of the first nine games, Pines have dug deep in recent weeks to produce some stirring

performances. Their 22-point win over Seaford last week was a beauty, with Stephen Taylor, Brendan Neville and Beau Hendry in dynamic form. Having won three of their past four games, the Pythons are one of the in-form sides of the competition and rivals should beware.Bonbeach should have plenty of motivation today. A win would all-but-seal a finals berth. An emerging threat, look for the Sharks to regain form heading into September.MT ELIZA’s hot run has cooled slightly in recent weeks as some key injuries and outs have had an impact. But the Redlegs should post win number 14 when they host LANGWARRIN today.

Peninsula PreviewStar recruit Sam Lloyd played with the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL last week, taking the opportunity to test himself at a higher level. But he’ll be back in the Redlegs colours today. And Josh Norman (back) and Rohan Heasley (broken wrist) have been missing with injuries. On the other side of the coin, brilliant forward Michael Lourey has been a huge addition. “He just doesn’t miss,” quipped Mounties coach Jason Watts. They’re stuck on the bottom but EDI-ASP looks to be finishing the season strongly. Coach Troy Shannon can see plenty of potential in his young side and there’s no wonder he is keen to steer them again next season.Today the Eagles face the powerful FRANKSTON YCW but a feisty display from the Edi-Asp boys wouldn’t surprise.Giant-kicking Nick Connellan has struck a purple patch of form and proven match-winners Beau Turner, Tim Mannix and Jordan Derbyshire are going well. The Stonecats (14-1), as usual, are purring.

Stonecats Big Chance in the Reserves...On a six-game tear, FRANKSTON YCW’S relentless pursuit of a finals berth reaches a critical stage today. The Stonecats play EDI-ASP at Regent Park and victory would thrust them into the five for the first time this season. It won’t be an easy task, though. Edi-Asp sit fourth and took Mt Eliza’s scalp three weeks ago. And their key men are in top form, the likes of Ryan Cunningham, Alex Houghton and Daniel Graves.Impressive last round winners MT ELIZA, with Mitch Wilson and Tim Groot in hot form, can inflict another blow to LANGWARRIN’S finals hopes by winning today. The Kangaroos are teetering on the edge of the five after dropping three of their past four games and need to find form, and quick.SEAFORD has jumped to third spot and should be able to consolidate its position today when it meets CHELSEA. The Tigers are cashing in on the good form of Darragh Chadwick, Peter Azzopardi and Rizwan Harun.

There’s no stopping KARINGAL and the Bulls should extend their lead at the top of the ladder by beating MORNINGTON, while PINES and BONBEACH lock horns in the wooden spoon battle.

Redlegs Back and Firing in the Under 18s...MT ELIZA is on top and has won five on the bounce, but last week the Redlegs experienced a rarity – a goalless quarter. It should spur them on to try to improve even further. Today the Mounties host sixth-placed LANGWARRIN, fresh off the bye.Third-placed SEAFORD faces CHELSEA, fifth, in one of the games of the round. The Tigers drilled 27 goals last week, with Rourke Fischer (8 goals), Geordie Scott (4) and Jordan Andrewartha (4) running rampant. EDI-ASP faces a big task against FRANKSTON YCW, which continues to look every bit a premiership contender with Kyle St Anne, Callum Steele and Brenton Credlin leading the way.PINES and BONBEACH managed two goals between them last week and do battle today.

Firstly this week a BIG shout out and thanks to our Major Sponsors – TAFT Training, NP Distribution, Frankston RSL, Audi Centre Brighton & Mornington, RAMS Home Loans, Blue Gum, EastWork, BMK and Showtime Attractions – without yor support we would not be where we are today. It was a cold morning at Somerville last Saturday but things soon warmed up onfield with the Unders recording a good win away to further enhance their finals chances. Jase Riley again bagged a few with the resulting celebra-tions always a feature.Later at Langy both senior and reserve teams went along their merry way recording 10 goal+ victories. In the 2s Sibba and Robbie did well first game back from injury with Fish solid all day whilst in the seniors the forward team of Hay & Burke returned 11 between them, Dunney was great and as always Jacko flew under the radar…Over on the courts we had 2 wins and a draw, but also 2 ambulances called - all the best to Jess & Jess. Shout out also to Amanda who lost a boxing match with the trailer early but fought back bravely to fulfil seniors duties post x-ray.Today we’re back at home hosting Mornington in all grades and with only 2 games to go after today it is im-perative that we continue our form and winning ways. The Seafood lunch is also on today – big thanks to Hoops and his team for again organizing the event. Next social event is the Man-o-Man night on 18 August. Ladies book your tickets now. No word yet on who the talent will be however Jenks has been putting in the hours at the gym and tanning salon so maybe a chance…..Remember www.karingalfc.com for all the latest news and gossip including the weekly’ Chairman’s Report after the games, catch us on Facebook, or follow us for all footy and netball updates and pics as they happen on Twitter – twitter.com/#karingalfc – whilst on Twitter give a shout to @deezaab86…..he gets a little lonely sometimes! Finally good luck to our junior teams starting their finals campaign – both the U11 and U12 teams finished top 2. Interestingly both teams have a strong senior link with the Dunne clan involved in the 11s and rumours that Whit-ey is the #1 ticket holder for the U12s. Good luck to all involved. #gofncbulls #1club Bullseye

Last week we played Edithvale Aspendale at home and was a day of great success and great disappointment. The Colts played a brilliant game of footy after some in-spirational speeches from 2 young senior players Keith O’Brien and Ryan Smith and they beat topside Narre Warren and made finals a great possibility. Best for the Colts was Tom Hartley, Luke Rigg and Matt Cranmer. The Under 18’s were back to their best playing team footy and beat Edi-Asp by 108 points with Dan Vercoe kicking 4 with best players Nick Cox, Jake Smart, Sam Crawford. The Reserves were convincing beat even though the boys fought hard till the end but it is hard to win when we only have 20 players to choose from. The best play-ers were Aaron Rixon, ever reliable loughers and Simo Powell whose engagement party is tonight. The seniors needed to win to keep a window open to play finals and were able to keep in touch with Edithvale for 90% of game. We hit the front in the last quarter but again 10 minutes of footy cost us and we went down by 20 points. In the best was Searley, Josh McLerie and Dan Villani . One of the highlights was Bryon Murphy’s speckies. The disappointing part is if we had beat the 2 sides below us at home we would be in the 5, but it wasn’t to be. That was last week and today we enjoy the hospitality of karingal one of the favorites for the flag and look forward to 3 competitive games. Tonight is our annual very popular Comedy Auction Night at the club rooms and is a great night for all. Be there at 7pm and be ready for a good laugh and to buy televisions, holidays, power tools, tyres and much much more.Sponsors of the week. Seaview Pools, Sportspower Mornington, Radial Timber sales, Sunny Ridge Straw-berry farms, Rail Signalling Services.

Welcome to the Langwarrin folks for today’s games.

A much better day last Saturday at Chelsea, with all sides recording strong wins.

The Unders kicked off the day with a good win over an-other finals aspirant. A 7 goal half time lead was reduced to 20 points at the finish. Piercey booted 3 & better play-ers included Dion, Mitch, Jonesy & Charlie.

The Reserves got back on the winners list with a 7 goal win with Groota starring with a career high 6 goals. Titch was great all day while the usual suspects Youngy, Kenty & Marshall controlled the game. Good luck to Blacky as he recovers from his injury.

The Seniors bounced back from the previous week’s loss with a huge (& rare) win at Chelsea. Lourey & Lockwood dominating up forward with 13 goals between them & debutant Zal White impressive booting 3. Better players were D’Orazio, Simmo, Barto, Suhry & Dyl.

The A Grade netballers had a big 48 goal win over the Seagulls, but the B Grade lost another close one by just 4.

social - Major $10K Draw – Sunday 19th August & “La-dies in Red” Luncheon on Sat 25th August.

sponsor of the Week – Nash Body Repairs - If you have a need for a top quality repair job at a competitive price then give Les Hopgood a call.

Well done to the MEJFC on having 12 teams in Finals – A fantastic effort from all players and Coaches.

Despite great weather at home again this year our boys were never in it against the quality reserves and senior sides of Karingal. Luxa, Urbs and Bluey were amongst the best for a senior group who struggled to get any-where near the experienced players of the Bulls. Disap-pointingly the margin against Karingal over the past few years has been huge and we cannot seem to make any improvement. Our reserves also battled against the top of the table side going down convincingly. Wenny, Ice Man and Sammy Anderson played well yet our players could clearly see what level of footy is required to be competitive come finals time. With no u18s game the committee members and game day helpers got a well deserved Sat sleep in!The next month is a very important one for the club both on and off the field. We have the chance on field to make improvement on last years 4 wins, play finals in the reserves and continue to develop our youth. Off field with catering th finals at Frankston Park and assisting our juniors with catering the finals at Langwarrin we have an opportunity to rally players, committee and supporters to help build our club’s success.social Notes:$5K DRAW tonight after Mt. Pines seniors v Seaford last week, in very bleak weather, gave the best of their commitment & rolled the tigers by 22 pts. Pity there weren’t more Pines supporters here to see it. Best-Stephen Taylor, Brendan Neville & Beau Hen-dry. Shaun White bagged 3. Reserves, in a low scoring game, managed only 2 goals & subsided to a 32 pt loss. Best-Gordon Hendry, Brad Wicks & Shaun McPherson. Our Thirds undermanned through injuries & with some lads committed to their Sunday Junior Club games bat-tled bravely against the third placed tigers who were vic-tors by 175 pts. Best-Corey Ludewig, Rhys Chalkley & Robert Archer. Thanks Seaford for loaning us a couple of players. Team LGK’s after Rd 15, Srs-Guy Hendry 30, Res-H.Clancy, S.McPherson 10 each, Thds-D.Ryan 10. Welcome today to Bonbeach for our 62nd meet since 1964. (Pines 38, BB 23.) Hello also to our past players gathering here for a togetherness. The purpose of this meet is to get the Past Players Group up & running again for next year after it fell away a bit over the last few years with some of the first organisers being no longer around. Today Gordon Hendry plays his 440th club game (323sr, 116rs), Luke Houldcroft is in his 150th club game (123sr, 26rs) & Jason Jordan plays his 200th reserves game. Com-ing soon in the MPNFL Historians pages of your award winning footy record may be an article showing the play-ers with 100 or more consecutive senior games played at each club since 1970. Watch for our Adam Marriner & Gary Abblitt to be amongst the top names. Tomorrow there will be another three of those super Super Rules games here which are actually semi finals. Games start at 11am, bar & canteen await your requests. Hope to see the GFL’s here also.Footy Fact File. Our highest ever score v Bonbeach was 28.20-180, a 145 pt marg. in Rd 4, 1987. Craig Neal booted 9. No Pines player has kicked 10 or more snr goals against them. We have met thrice in senior GFLs. The 1978 by 30 pts (A.Norris 2) & 1980 by 74 pts (S.Emberson 4, J.Svigos 3) were ours but the 1982 game went to them by 1 pt, (J.Svigos 5.)Good luck to our teams today. the last Bud

Tough day at Jubilee Park last week with all results going to the home club. But thanks again go to the U/18’s lads that pulled on a boot for the 2nds.The two’s matched it for ½ the game with a make shift team and can be pleased with their efforts. The 3rds battled the game right out against one of the top sides who have a list twice as long as anybody else’s.The seniors who have been playing terrific footy recent-ly, came up against the bench mark of the competition. Whilst the scores showed a comfortable win to the top side, the boys matched it in general play around the ground, which is something to build on coming into the finals. This week we play our old foes Pines. We have struggled there in recent times and looking at Pines’ form, it should another great encounter. Also the Pines FC are having a past players day today and would welcome any old Beaches players in for a beer during the afternoon. It used to be a fair slurp years ago! Good Luck to all today!Upcoming events: Bonbeach Cup & Con Artist Night: 18th August, $15 per head with finger food Business Lunch: 7th September 12 Noon -4pm: Featur-ing Guest speakers Luke Nolan [Black Caviars jockey], Chris Symons and Glen Archer, $120 per head includes 3 course meal & drinks.

So we ventured to the kennel, on a lovely sunny day, the thirds were always going to have a tough challenge on their hands, Maxy Byrnes just gives his all each week, supported by Patty J, Stewy M, it was a tough day in the office.

The reserves were primed to make amends from the pre-vious weeks effort, Bull Moro got them going, the Greek god Evans slotted a few, Tommy Hoare was jumping high, Fos was consistently driving it forward. Many good players, lets keep up the effort over the business end of the season.

The seniors lead all day, but to the doggies credit they wouldn’t let up and challenged us and lead us late. Good to see the boys dig deep, Woopa in the ruck very good, Timmy and Beau also...good to see all these boys in form Saturday night as well!

Thanks to Mornington for their hospitality, important part of the fabric of MPNFL footy the after matches, often passed over by the ignorant!

Thanks to Vez and Kat for Saturday night, a good night was had by all attendees......anyone notice Gus doesn’t dance unless the strobe light is on?

This week we venture to Regent Park to take on the Com-bine who always seem to lift on their home patch. Im-portant games for all, but none more than the Mighty Magoos who take on an opposition above them on the ladder in a must win encounter to aspire to finals ac-tion. Strong results are needed for the Ones and Threes to consolidate their possies on the ladder as, after this weekend, we only have 2 rounds remaining. The Colts have a bye. Our netballers are looking to continue their improvement and snatch a couple of wins.Buggy’s Boys worked hard for a 57 point win over fourth placed Bonbeach last week. After a slowish start, the Big Rig, Bundy and Blake Macca got on top whilst Chappy managed 3 goals. Reidys Rebels continued their win-ning ways in a somewhat scrappy game enjoying a 10 goal margin at the end – a fitting baby shower present to welcome Alexandra Reidy into the world. Matt Millman, Chris Gonzalez (2 goals) and The Duck had good games whilst Barks and Stricko kicked a couple each as well.Big win by the 18’s who are running into good form coming to the finals – Callum Steele, Brent Credlin and Jem Thorne (4 goals) were best. The Colossal Colts leap-frogged Beacy into equal top position with Narre with a grand 42 point victory. Zak Gibson (5 goals) was a stand-out and well supported by Mark Whitehead and Steve Worton. The A Grade Stonekittens had a belting win by 24 points whilst B Grade fell short by a mere 1 point. Have a look at the Club Notes elsewhere in the Record to get all the details. tonight tonight: august 11 – $10,000 Draw. Only 100 tickets and with a few left see Coey asap to get yours. Night commences at 7.00pm.Diarise these social events august 18 – Past Players, Sponsors and Collopy Club Luncheon (The Seaford Game).

This week’s club notes are brought to you by our spon-sors TRUFIT EXHAUSTS and ARMISTEAD FENCING.Colts were on a bye this week so the Under 18s kicked off the dew to take on an undermanned Pines team that struggled hard against our boys all day. A great display of keeping to the coaches’ instructions and team play saw a convincing win for the boys. Great sportsmanship was shown by NATHAN LYNCH and MAX CARROLL who volunteered to play for the opposition. A big bag of 7 goals from Rourke Fischer, playing in the midfield, well assisted by Jordan Andrewartha, Luke Bailey-Khone and Lochlan Heller. The reserves played ground out a hard fought contest in windy conditions – working consistently well to overpower their opponents little by little over the four quarters. Once again a solid defence reduced the op-position’s scoring opportunities. Among the best play-ers were Darragh Chadwick, Pete Azzopardi, Rizwan Harun and Matt Smith.Rain and wind swept the ground for the seniors, mak-ing it difficult to hit targets for both teams, resulting in a game that was played largely between the backlines. The opposition came to play and were intense at their attack on the football and less than two kicks in the game at the last change. Our boys were finding it difficult to get their running game going, forced wide on many oc-casions, limiting their scoring opportunities and kicking against the breeze. One goal to four in the last quar-ter was not enough and it was a disappointing result for the boys who will need to regroup for a massive game against Chelsea in a mini elimination final at RF Miles next week. Some honest efforts on the day included Luke Smith, Kieran Shaw and Matt Haverfield. Two wins and a draw for the netball ladies in what is turning out to be another very successful season – well done girls.

Recover like you care, train like you care, prepare like you care, listen like you care and then play like you CARE! It’s about the team and the club now, not indi-vidual success. Today is about ‘US’, not you! When the COACH says “run”, reply, “got it”, when he says “be ac-countable”, reply “got it”, when he says “tackle”, reply “got it”, when he says “attack the ball”, reply “got it”, when he says “be disciplined”, reply “got it”. OPPOR-TUNITY boys. Life is about opportunities an whether you make the most of them. You have that today, an opportu-nity to propel ‘US’ into finals contention. V Mounties - 0 and 3, not good! Our Role in UmpiringWhile the AFL is heralding the success of its umpire pathway program with the appointment of former Carlton & Essendon player Jordan Bannister, the Victorian State Home Loans Southern Umpires Association can certainly hold it head high when it comes to the development of umpires in South East Victoria. The VSHL-SUA has 301 registered umpires on its list consisting of Field, Boundary & Goal umpires and what’s more amazing it that 45% of our umpiring list is under the age of 18 which is very pleasing for the future number of umpires in the region. The VSHL-SUA Board of Directors and Coaching Panel firmly believe there to be more to our Association than simply supplying umpires to officiate in football matches. Our fully Accredited Coaching Team offers a wealth of AFL/VFL experience. Weekly coaching and development sessions are conducted highlighting important game day issues and providing our members with the opportunity to further develop key characteristics within the VSHL-SUA and the community.New and inexperienced umpires to the VSHL-SUA are given an introduction into umpiring by undertaking the “AFL Mentor System”. The new umpire is provided with a full set of the distinctive umpiring uniform and equipment including a sports bag for their use during the season. We are looking to expand this initiative in

coming seasons through a targeted marketing campaign from within our own membership and the broader community. We also promote personal & social responsibility among our members with courses and guest speakers to lead and develop our umpires in the awareness and the effects of drugs and alcohol in sport, Mental Health & Depression Awareness, Road Safety, Cyber Safety and Health and Wellbeing.

Mission Statementthe mission of the southern Umpires association is to:• Provide the highest standard of collective representation to all Southern Umpires regardless of category, experience or location;• Encourage and foster the highest standards of officiating and citizenship amongst SUA Umpires on and off the field; and• Promote and advance the institutions of Umpiring and the Game.

Values Statement• The Southern Umpires Association is committed to fostering values of: Respect, Integrity, Fairness, and Trust.

the Home and Away season is finally on its last legs with only

3 games left we are all wearing down to our final last efforts to get through this as final hopefuls or happy with what we have

achieved. With A grade 4th spot open to three teams it’s going to be an interesting battle to see who can push themselves to the limit and be rewarded.last week’s wrap upmornington v ediaspThe Eagles headed down the freeway to meet with the Mornington ladies – last time these girls faced up it was a one sided affair the same was seen last week with Eagles taking home comfortable victories in all 3 grades. A Grade saw a 30 goal win, B Grade 57 Goals and C Grade 48, with Mornington wanting to keep their finals hopes alive this week they have to outscore Karingal for the second time this season to sneak back in to 4th position by 2 points over Pines or will Karingal Stand up and hold their 4th spot.chelsea v mt elizaThe Gulls welcomed the Red Legs for some fine weather and an afternoon of netball down at the Chelsea courts. Last time these ladies meet Chelsea took it up to Mounty only going down by 18 goals but this wasn’t the case this time around The Red Legs taking a comfortable win by 48 goals still keeping them sitting 3rd on the ladder by percentage. B Grade was victory for the Seagulls winning by 4 points giving them their 4th win for the year. This week Mt Eliza take on Langwarrin which should not alter the lady with the Mounty girls have comfortable victory first meet this year and Chelsea take on Seaford who will put out a hard fought game but as score lines have shown Seaford will seek another win.ycW v BonbeachThe Stone Kittens where looking for their 5th win today welcoming the Bonbeach ladies and that they did by an impressive 24 goals sitting them just out of final hopes now but a great effort for their first season in competition. B Grade went Bonbeach way with a one goal win giving them their 5th win for the season but also not enough to gain movement on the ladder. This week YCW head down to take on the Eagles where they will be looking at reducing their 40 goal loss from first time meet. Bonbeach head over and take on the Pythonettes also looking at reducing their margin and go for a win.langwarrin v KaringalLangy welcomed the Bulls and where hoping to increase their win tally to 3 for the seasons after a physical game the week before against Seaford they were ready to take on 4th spot holders. Karingal proved to strong and were able to hold on to 4th spot with a 6 point win. B Grade again going Karingal’s way with a 18 goal win giving them clear 3rd spot position. Langy heading over to the Village today to take on Mounty with Karingal welcoming Mornington.

pines v seafordThe Pythonettes welcomed the Tigers for a sunny afternoon of netball – with the atmosphere high with a the support of the footballers playing on the Sunday where down there to cheer on the girls. A Grade was a tough fought game with Seaford winning by 10 goals – not an easy 10 goals after Pines kept up with them for most of the day. B Grade was a one sided affair giving another victory to Tigers by 26 goals. C Grade was even results with 22 goals apiece both teams played hard netball. I here both teams spent the following day sipping wine together and enjoy an afternoon of laughs at Pines annual Ladies Day.Today Pines take on Bonbeach looking for a victory to hold their finals hopes alive and Seaford take on Chelsea.this week’s tips:A Grade – Mornington, Mt Eliza, Pines, Edi Asp, SeafordB Grade – Karingal, Mt Eliza, Pines, Edi Asp, SeafordC Grade – Karingal, Pines

A Grade - top three teams have been found but what will be the final three order is yet to be determined, Edi Asp will take out top spot, 2nd & 3rd spot between Seaford or Mt Eliza. Both sitting on the same points but decided by percentage. 4th Spot is open to Karingal, Mornington and Pines – Pines currently hold higher percentage sitting in 6th position. A win today to Mornington over Karingal will see them back in 4th posi, Pines win the move to 5th position with same points as Karingal but higher percentage. What will we see happen…B Grade – top 4 teams are set 3rd and 4th position open to Karingal and Mornington.C Grade – With the top 2 teams Edi Asp and Seaford having a Bye this week leaves 2nd spot open to Pines if they can have a large win this week over Pearcedale Blue. Karingal looking for a win over Mornington can move them ahead of Pines should Pines not win. With a some interesting results required in A & C Grade this week we wish all girls Good Luck.Netty P

BonbeachLast week we travelled to Jubilee Park and might I say the supporters are looking forward to Pines’ indoor court today, it was ‘Freeezzing’. The Netball was good though with the ‘B’ s getting the points by the narrowest of margins for the second time this year. All players worked hard as a team to get across the line with our midcourt players Steph’, Caitlin, Sarah and new girl Jayde providing good drive. Defenders Jodie and Denae are working well together down there and Hayley and a best on court performance from Kate Martin were terrific in front of goals. Although going down the ‘A’s were terrific all day and hopefully can get another deserved win before the seasons out. They had good players also in the midcourt from Katie, Emily, Jess, defenders Emma and Bianca also worked hard with Bernadette and Jayde doing well in attack. Pines today girls indoors, Yaaay! All the best!Up comiNg FUNctioNs: Bonbeach Cup & Con Artist: 18th August, $15 per head, includes finger food.

ChelseaLast Saturday was another great day for netball. Sun shining, not too much wind, girls ready to play. The B’s fought hard with constant belief they could do it. After a topsy turvy 4 quarters the girls came through for a win, yahoo! Thanks to the Mountie girls for pushing our girls to play consistent netball. There were some excellent passages of play from both teams. The A’s was a slightly different scenario with us going down by quite a few. Mt. Eliza are a class act with a strong defensive line up through to centre court and on into the goal ring. We were unable to match their speed and accuracy of shot. Nonetheless we pushed through again doing our very best for the day, but no cigar this week for the Seagals. Thanks again to Ash and Casey for sorting all the official stuff, and to our opposition for providing

some terrific competition. And to my girls for being just who your are. This week we meet Seaford at Patterson River Sec. College. B’s at 12noon and A’s 1.15pm.Don’t forget, Lewie Live next Saturday August 18. 7.30pm at the club $10 per head for a great night of live music.

Edithvale-AspendaleLast Saturday all teams travelled to Padua College to take on the Mornington girls and supporters were treated to an afternoon of terrific netball. We managed to come away with three wins and all games were very competitive and played in good spirits. In the A Grade game Wendy (The Foss or The Enforcer?) starred

Peninsula Netballin defence, in B grade Mel B looks like she has finally shaken off the effects of the dreaded flu and in the C team, Meagan was extremely accurate in goals. Well done girls on three great games and it was great to see everyone celebrating back at Regents Park late into the night.Sunday was also busy with netball and special thanks goes to Andrew, Deb, Will & Sammy for running the whole day, collecting the bus and driving the girls to Lesley’s side of town. It was well worth the effort and all the players appreciate your support – though singing lessons may be in order for Bet, Kate & Holly before the next road trip!Next week we are holding our Family Fun Day at Regents Park and the Club Reunion is on Sunday 19th August. Both days should be a lot of fun and don’t forget to buy your tickets in the MONSTER RAFFLE which will be drawn on the 19th also. There are some fantastic prizes on offer so see Ted, John T or Helen for tickets.Today our A & B teams welcome the YCW girls to the Sturdee Street courts and our C grade girls have a bye. Games start at 12pm and 1.15pm respectively.Good luck to all Eagles playing today, especially to all the junior footballers who start their finals campaign this week. Fly eagles!!

Frankston YCWIn the previous round against Bonbeach we had two very close fought games and unfortunately came home empty handed. The Stonekittens weren’t about to let that happen again. Back on our own home turf we managed to turn the tables, with a comfortable win for the A grade girls but unfortunately missing out by the smallest of margins in the B’s. Noo has proven herself to be a true leader, getting the talk happening on the court and leading by example, playing some fantastic netball consistently over the last few weeks. Kirsten Doherty has improved out of sight persistently showing those second and third efforts, driving hard through the centre, putting on the defensive pressure and again showing some great rejects! Kristen Wylie’s another defender who keeps improving every week, taking Ev’s advice on board and putting that into play of a Saturday. A great effort girls and I’m sure we’ll get them next time! The A team are starting to show some true form with the ball flowing beautifully from one end of the court to the other. Goldie has her eye well and truly in shooting with much higher accuracy, combing well with Courta and always moving into the space in the goal ring. Ness K is a stand out for most improved, playing a great man on man game, always there to bring the ball out of defence and truly cementing her spot in the A team. Max was great down in the backline changing her game to match the gaoler’s and give them a real run for their money! A tough one at Edi Asp this week but let’s set ourselves some goals and achieve them!go stonekittens!

KaringalOur C girls headed off to Pearcedale in a must win game to stay in the top 4. The girls played a great game with good input from all players, it was a hard fought game with us in the lead going into the last qrt but Pearcedale came back at us in last quarter to end in a 32 all Draw. Well done girls! Not quite the win we wanted but better than a loss. The A & B teams travelled to sunny Langwarrin last Saturday with A desperately needing a win to regain a top four position.B got off to a shaky start but managed to fire up & get their combinations to gel. Sara shot 26 of our 38 goals & Emma & Katie provided assistance in the goal ring. Ang ran through the centre feeding beautifully to our goalers. Unfortunately we lost Jess Lord early in the fourth quarter with a broken ankle & wish Jess a speedy recovery!A grade lost the first quarter 9 - 12 but regrouped in the second keeping Langwarrin scoreless & taking a much needed lead which they managed to hold onto til the final siren. Rach & Em were sensational in defense, Beck stood tall in goals with 30 for the game! Kirsty had a brilliant game with several tips & intercepts & providing plenty of back up - something we lack at times. Again our fourth quarter saw us lose another

MPNFL Since 1908 31

Peninsula Netballplayer - Jess Allcott with a dislocated shoulder. Another painful injury & we wish Jess all the best with recovery! This week we take on Mornington at home - it’s a great feeling to be back at the Bullpit! Girls don’t forget Man O Man on Sat 18th August at the club rooms. go BUlls!!

LangwarrinLast Saturday we played Karingal. In our B’s we welcomed back Julianne Smith from injury and were feeling confident. All of the girls played well and put up a strong competition in the first half. Having a few subs meant lots of rotations. Some working well. Best on goes to Kathleen O’Dwyer for her versatility on the court. Taking out the $100 Endota voucher generously donated by Jamie Bartling from RAMS Home Loans. However, our game soon fell apart after an injury in Karingals defense line caused the game to a stop. We really hope Jess is doing well and that her ankle isn’t as bad as first thought. We wish you a speedy recovery. In our A game this week we all came out firing and applied pressure from the first center pass. Karingal’s goals rarely missed and were spot on with their rebounds making it hard work for our defense. Well done to Nadia for taking the $100 Endota voucher generously donated by Jamie Bartling from RAMS Home Loans. This weeks Beretta’s voucher was taken by Sarah Johnston for her efforts on court. It was a tight game until the last quarter where Karingal were able to pull away. Unfortunately in the last quarter Karingal suffered another injury with Jess fallings and hurting her shoulder. We all hope you are feeling better soon Jess. Today we play Mount Eliza and look forward to the clash. Keep in mind our upcoming events. Tonight is our $5,000 draw, tickets still available at the door. Also make sure you keep the 18th August free for the Op Shop formal! $5 Entry and non stop 80’s music! MorningtonA good day out last week even though we didn’t win in any grade. It was pleasing to have the team structures balanced as the return of several players meant we were able to play in our correct positions. All teams had great contests with Edi-Asp on the day and it was great to see how much we had improved since our last outing.Cathy, Ros and Nicole in defence for C grade worked hard but there was nothing they could do against the Edi-Asp goalers who didn’t miss all game.Likewise Meg and Stacey had a hard day out in B grade’s circle defence. When the opposition goalers did miss Meg was strong in her rebounding. Bec was a pest at WD and C and made her opponent earn every ball. Early on in the game the score was 8 all but then Edi-Asp found their straps and ran away in the second quarter.A grade had a great match going down by 30 goals! This might sound a lot but to the girls credit they contested every ball and were on the end of a bit of bad luck on a few occasions. Georgia and Tess were brilliant in defence and gave the team excellent drive through the midcourt. Even Stacey did well at GK, whilst she thought she was out of her league. A couple of intercepts in the last quarter was due to her perseverance. Well done. Chris and Dani controlled the attack end and fed Alyshia and Sarah well. It was great having the attack end ‘click’ together. Well done also to Alyshia and Sarah shooting comfortably under pressure.NewsXpress Mornington Centro awards: C grade – Mel (for covering unfamiliar positions), B grade – Meg, A grade – Georgia.Hopefully this week’s game against Karingal sees us meet under favourable weather conditions as our previous encounters have lowered the standard of our contests.go BUllDogs

Mount ElizaThanks to Chelsea for the afternoon tea, its a great way for everyone to get to know each other. B grade started strong in the first quarter with everyone doing their

job and working hard to deliver the ball down to the goaling end. Meaghan did well playing in the centre along with Sam and Sophie on the wing, moving the ball steadily through the mid court. Mandy and Rachael teamed up in goals making position for the pass in. Renae and Nikki once again played a tight game in defense supported by Bronwyn in W.D. A narrow loss by only 3 goals, 28 to 31.A grade had a strong win which will be another good percentage booster (11 to 59). With a couple of injuries and illnesses there were some players dying to get their hands on the shooter bib. Showing great versatility both Di and Michelle displayed some hidden talent. Jess W. Jess A.and Karen C. made it almost impossible for Chelsea to clear their centre pass, working a very tight closing down all the gaps. Chloe and Anna provided the necessary experience in the attacking end guiding their novice shooters into position. A terrific team effort girls, well done. Last weeks winners of our generous sponsors awards from SIMPLY BRAZILIAN were Ellie and Renae.

Pearcedale BlueWell the girls had a fantastic day last weekend, playing 4 quarters of good hard netball, and came home with a draw. Coach Danielle is very proud of where the girls have come since the start of the season. Alysha in Centre playing wonderful netball, assisting the mid court has been a huge part of this team. The attacking also holding position well on the court. The defence end with the height being a big contribution and the girls holding a strong position. Last week we would like to apologise to Mornington of whom came down to play last Wednesday night only to discover upon arriving that the courts where unable to be played on, due to maintenance in the school hall. As said a round on us at Presentation. This week we play Pines and hope for a positive result. BOC Rachael Klimeck. Thanks to all the girls of whom attended our PFN Night, for those of you that hard not attended, you missed out on a great fun evening. We would also like to thank our club sponsors Confined Concreting, Oakhill Produce, R & V Blackburn Concreting, South East Constructions & Beaconsfield Tractor & Mowers.

PinesLast week we played against our old rivals Seaford but our most enjoyable game of the season when we face these girls. Tough games played on the court but soon as we step back over that white line we can all sit around and have a chat and a laugh together, the spirit of the game that should be encountered by all teams we face. Was a tough day out on the court for all three teams, C Grade went into the first qtr break with 7 goal lead and some great plays but Seaford fought back to get back within 2 goals at the half time break. Our girls fought hard to come home with a

draw, special mentions Karen and Danielle. B Grade played hard game but unfortunately passes and lack of play gave away the ball again to go down by 26 goals pushing them out to 3 games out of the final 4 – special mentions to Kirsty and Amanda. A Grade was a tough fought game and the girls kept the hopes of a win to within 4 to 5 goals for most of the game to end up going down by 10 goals which is a great effort from the last time meet when we went down by 37 goals great effort girls – Special mentions this week to Haidee and Lozza.Today we take on Bonbeach where A grade are looking to gain another good win – we faced up last time and had a 36 goal win so today shouldn’t be any different, a win will boost our top 4 chances play hard girls and focus on that top 4 finish one that we would never have thought we would have achieved in our second season. B Grade have something to prove today going down to Bonbeach first time around being 7 goals up at the 3rd qtr break to go down by 2 goals, lets re focus ladies get disciplined and finish off the season. C Grade also looking for a win today face off against Pearcedale Blue who they have beaten on two occasions and need to look for a third victory.Big Thank you to all that attended Ladies Day last Sunday was a great day and was one that was shared with supporters and opposing teams. Again big thanks to the Seaford Girls that attended they left just as happy as we did. Don’t forget Special Effort Draw coming up on the 18th August tickets will be available from Danielle this week.Good Luck today Ladies – let’s focus on three from three.

SeafordC grade: The girls had a slow start to the game but fought back and worked hard throughout the remainder of the game which resulted in a draw. This was a fitting result for both teams who played well. Our girls are beginning to show improvement in their ability to work positively as a team. Well done to Mel King for stepping into defence when Tanya was injured. B Grade: Pines put in a determined effort but our girls were up for the challenge. Donna and Sally ripped it up in defence working hard against the Pines’ shooters. Mel and Emma did a good job in goals. Seaford won by a satisfying 26 goals. A Grade: The first half of the game was close with both teams putting in a gritty display. Seaford managed to put on a few more goals than Pines in the second term resulting in a 10 goal win. Tayla defended skilfully and Stacey capably fed into the circle, these two being our best players for A grade on the day.Once again thanks to the tenacious Pines for the enjoyable games.
