COMPANY HISTORYFIT UK Training & Education was founded in September 2009, initially trading as Fitness Industry Training UK, with the specific intention to develop cost effective, flexible and innovative approaches to vocational training provision. Initially approved as a CYQ training centre, FIT UK’s aim was to provide a full range of vocational training qualifications for individuals entering the fitness industry, or for individuals already working within the sector wanting to up skill and progress their careers, in a format that could be tailored to meet the specific needs of the client using a mixture of distance learning packages, telephone support, and traditional face to face delivery.

In the first 12 months of trading over 250 learners trained with FIT UK Training & Education, with learner success rates of 92%, well above the national average. In September 2010 FIT UK Training & Education secured funding from three major UK colleges, enabling us to provide a range of fully and part-funded work based learning programmes on a national basis. Building on the success of the first year, FIT UK Training & Education have gone on to work with over 2,000 learners with outstanding success rates in excess of 90%. We have established strategic partnerships with organisations throughout the UK that gives us access to the best facilities and learning environment for our learners to achieve their education goals.

European Social Fund (ESF)

ESF is Europe’s main instrument for supporting jobs, helping people get better jobs and ensuring fairer job opportunities for all EU citizens. It works by investing in Europe’s human capital – its workers, its young people and all those seeking a job. ESF financing of EUR 10 billion a year is improving job prospects for millions of Europeans, in particular those who find it difficult to get work.

The European Union is committed to creating more and better jobs and a socially inclusive society. These goals are at the core of the Europe 2020 strategy for generating smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the EU. The current economic crisis is making this an even more demanding challenge. The ESF is playing an important role in meeting Europe’s goals, and in mitigating the consequences of the economic crisis - especially the rise in unemployment and poverty levels.

Learner Responsive Funding Learner responsive funding is demand led model of funding that enables us to cover all or some of the costs associated with your chosen programme of study. The funding falls into two categories; 16-18 Learner Responsive and 19+.

16-18 Learner Responsive

This funding covers the full cost of training for any learner who is above compulsory school leaving age but will not have turned 19 before the 31st August of the year in which they commence their training.

19+ Learner Responsive

This funding covers the full cost of any level 2 training programme for any learner who is unemployed or in receipt of specific state benefits. This funding also covers the cost of any level 3 training programme for any learner who is unemployed or in receipt of specific state benefits but is aged between 19-23 at the date they commence their training.

24+ Advanced Learner Loans

You can apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to help with the costs of your chosen programme of study if you’re aged 24 or older. The programme of study could include any of our level 3 or level 4 industry awards or can even be used to cover the cost of one of the Advanced Apprenticeship framework of qualifications. Loans have to be paid back, but repayments don’t start until April 2016 and you won’t have to pay anything back until you earn more than £21,000 a year. The loan doesn’t depend on your income and there are no credit checks. Your monthly repayment amount will be 9% of any income you earn over £21,000 and your repayments will stop if your income drops below £21,000 a year. This equates to only £7 a month if you earned £22,000 a year or £30 a month if you earned £25,000 a year.

You will pay interest from the time your first payment is made until you pay your loan back in full, and the rate you pay will be determined by your income…

> While you’re studying - rate of inflation plus 3%

> £21,000 or less - rate of inflation

> £21,000 to £41,000 - rate of inflation plus up to 3%

> £41,000 and over - rate of inflation plus 3%

If you’re an employee, your employer will work out your repayments and take them out of your salary with your tax. If you’re self-employed, you make repayments as part of your Self-Assessment tax return. You can also pay some or all of your loan at any time without an extra charge.

Traineeships

A Traineeship is an education training programme with industry specific work experience that is focused on giving young people, aged 16-23yrs, the skills and experience that employers are looking for within the active leisure sector.

FIT UK works with a network of employers nationally to source work experience opportunities, which when combined with a fully funded 16-24 week training programme, provides the ideal preparation for progressing into a paid apprenticeship or full or part time employment.

At the end of their Traineeship, each young person will be guaranteed a job interview if a role becomes available or exit interview and a reference from the company providing the work experience placement.

Work Based Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is framework of high quality work based training and education lasting a minimum of 12 months, and is designed to help individuals develop the skills they need to develop and progress their careers, and employers obtain the training required to ensure that their staff have the ability to carry out their jobs to the highest possible standard.

All apprenticeships include a competence based qualification, a technical knowledge qualification or industry award, and functional skills in maths or english for those that need it. To be eligible for an apprenticeship you must be above the compulsory school leaving age, be employed for an average of 30hrs per week within a role that meets the criteria of one of our apprenticeship programmes, not be undertaking any other form of funded training, and must not have a degree.

Full details of the apprenticeship programmes we offer are detailed in the Work Based Apprenticeship section of this prospectus. The costs associated with delivery of an apprenticeship programme are usually fully funded, but for learners over 23 some costs may apply.

FUNDING AVAILABILITYFIT UK receives funding at the start of every academic year to help learners and employers cover the cost of the training and education that they or their employees need. We receive funding through three main streams, with eligibility for each subject to change each year…

“ To have found FIT UK at the beginning of my fitness career was the best thing that could have ever happened. As a fitness instructor and a teacher now myself (thanks to FIT UK) what stands out the most about this company is just how versatile the courses are, and also that on each course I have been on how the tutors efficiently adapt and adhere to each students individual needs and aspirations. From the education received from FIT UK; the knowledge; the tips and the tricks, I believe that it transformed me as a fitness instructor and also as a business woman. The key to this was education that was personalised, and that’s exactly what the carefully and well selected tutors at FIT UK are fantastic at doing; making the learning environment personalised, engaging and enjoyable. I fully encourage anyone looking to build their fitness career to take up a course with FIT UK“

“ My swimming schedule takes approximately 28 hours of intense training per week and as you can imagine my time outside the pool is very limited due to these commitments. Lucky for me I’ve been given a great opportunity to work FIT UK Training & Education Ltd to get a Level 3 Personal Training qualification. This is a great opportunity for me because I’m really looking to expand my knowledge of diet and nutrition, the principles of training, and anatomy & physiology that will not only to help improve my performance but to then take that information and share it with others to help them achieve their goals. I’ve had a lot of fun working with my class and tutor, and have found a great satisfaction in the course already. I look forward to chasing my dreams of represent my country at the 2016 Olympic Games and being a fully qualified Personal Trainer.”

Natalie had this to say about the help and support offered by FIT UK…

“ I had always been interested in becoming a fitness instructor but had never taken the right steps in applying or enrolling onto a course as I was in and out of work. Job Centre Plus referred me to FIT UK and was informed about the funding available to me in order for me to start the gym instructor programme. As I was on Job Seekers Allowance the course was fully funded which I couldn’t believe. The programme was delivered one day a week over ten week period which I loved, enabling to fit my studies around childcare. I completed the course and gained my level 2 fitness instructor qualification. During this period FIT UK opened a community gym at their office in Kirkby, and approached me with the excellent opportunity of completing a level 3 apprenticeship in Personal Training. I cannot thank FIT UK enough for their support and faith in me. I love working here and I really enjoy the education side as well as I work towards becoming a fully qualified personal trainer”
