Linking Our Students to Their Community

Over the last week we have had all classes off site on excursions and

activities. The whole school attended the ‘YES’ performance at the

Ulverstone Civic Centre. It was a great opportunity for our children to

walk proudly through our community to experience a show that

celebrated the talents of young people. We also had a couple of classes

head off to Guide Falls and today we had our year 3 and 4 students

participating in a Milo Cricket day at the showgrounds.

It has been fantastic to see our school out and about in our community

and we have been very fortunate to have had such fine sunny days for

these outings. Our students have been advocates for our school with

many positive comments received from members of our wider community on how well mannered, respectful and presented our

students are. We are all very proud of our school and the way our

students represent our values.

Delta Dog/Flexible Programs

We also had a number of students and staff appear on Win News on

Friday evening promoting the Delta Dog Program. We are fortunate to

be one of only a small number of schools that have the Delta Dog

Program where students in year 3 participate in a reading program that

engages them in reading with the support of a very loveable dog. It is a great program that not only supports reading but also the social and

emotional needs of the students.

One of our School Values: Respect means: Treating others how

you would like to be treated, talking and playing nicely, thinking of

others feelings and accepting the differences of others

Delta Dog is one of many programs and flexible

learning opportunities we offer students across the

school.

Others include Chaplaincy, Mentors, Perceptual

Motor, Milo Reading, gardening, cooking, crafts, life

skills, Art extension, Robotics, construction and

sensory room programs. We have also seen a

substantial increase in the number of parents, carers

and other community volunteers this year who have

given their time to help out in a range of ways across

the school. Again our links to the community are

important in accessing a number of these programs.

T20 Blast State Final

On Monday 16 November we will have 2 cricket

teams heading to Hobart to represent our school in

the State Final of T20 Blast. It has been a great feat

for our 2 boy’s teams to reach this level of the

competition.

Thanks to Mr Dome for all his hard work in

organising the trip and working with the players to

prepare them for the final. Also thanks to some of

our senior students who have sourced donations to

supplement the cost of the trip. We wish them well

and hope that they enjoy the experience.

Ulverstone Show

Congratulations to the students who entered items

in the show. We had a number of students receive

first, second and third places in crafts. Through this

our students celebrate their achievements and

promote our school through community events.

End of Year Assessments

Over the last couple of weeks students from Prep

through to Grade 6 have been undertaking a range of

whole school assessment tasks. These have included

the PIP’s literacy, numeracy and phonics assessment

for Prep students and PAT Reading and Maths for

our Grade 1 through to 6 students.

Teachers are also beginning to bench mark reading

across the school and will also be conducting the

Single Work spelling test.

The data from these assessments will be used for a

range of purposes, such as ; supporting End of Year

Reporting,; informing teachers of where students are

at with their learning; identify students learning need;

assist in planning at a class level for 2016; and used at

a whole school level to celebrate our success in

achieving the goals and expectations we set for 2015

as well as provide information to assist with whole

school planning for 2016.

Uniforms

Just a reminder - that our school uniforms are now

supplied through Maveric Clothing at 17 Reibey

Street, Ulverstone. Murray and his team will be able

to help you out with school tops, fleecies and

hoodies.

Congratulations to -

School Banking Update

Following the decision last month to recall the Cosmic

Light Beam Torch due to a potential safety issue, a

decision has been made to also withdraw the

upcoming Lunar Light Band reward from the School

Banking Rewards Program.

To avoid disappointment there is a new reward item

available for redemption in Term 4 while stocks last.

Students can now test their skills with a game of frisbee with the new Galaxy Glider!

Once students have collected 10 tokens, they can

simply include a note, along with their 10 tokens in

their deposit wallet on banking day to advise that

they would like to redeem their tokens for the

Galaxy Glider reward item.

Don’t forget the Outer Space Savers Money Box is

also available in Term 4.

Head Lice Several cases of head lice

have been reported to us

recently. It is important that

parents regularly check their

child/ren’s hair. It is equally important that when

head lice is found to notify the school office so that a

note can be sent home to the appropriate class.

This information is kept confidential.

Ulverstone Surf Lifesaving Club

Date: Sunday 8 November

Time: 3:30 pm

Where: Beach Road, Ulverstone

Please bring bathers, towels and wetsuits etc…..

Every parent wants their child to lead a happy,

healthy and active youth. There is no better place for

this than introducing your child to surf lifesaving and

nippers.

‘Nippers’ is a junior program that introduces children

aged 5 - 13 to surf lifesaving. It is a fun outdoors activity that grows a child’s confidence, teaches

valuable life skills and knowledge.

Page 4: One of our School Values: Respect means you would like to ......The youth of today are the future of Surf Life Saving, and the Nippers pathway teaches lessons and skills allowing them

The youth of today are the future of Surf Life Saving,

and the Nippers pathway teaches lessons and skills

allowing them to continue in lifesaving and sport as

they grow older.

But it’s not all hard work. We like to call it serious

fun! Nippers is a great way for children to make

friends, be active and enjoy the beach in a safe

environment. In fact the whole family can be

involved!

If this sounds appealing and you would like to find out

more our local club Ulverstone SLSC will be holding

a New Members/Open afternoon where we can

show you around the club and let you know what we

have to offer your family. For more information

please email Jen [email protected] or

In English we have

been practicing

using ‘positive’

adjectives to

describe people’s

personality traits.

In Maths we are learning

about fractions!

Joshua- Fractions are quarters, helves

and thirds.

Courtney- Fractions are parts that

are split equally.

Amber- Fractions are part of a whole,

they must be equal.
