One Seven® system compressed air foam

ONE drop of water

will be transformed into SEVEN foam bubbles

Saves life protects property respects the environment

Over the last 15 years, One Seven of Germany GmbH have researched how to improve an extinguishing agent that has been used for almost 100 years and have developed it into the most efficient firefighting technology. The One Seven® compressed air foam is being applied by fire brigades worldwide and it has also proven itself in numerous automatic stationary firefighting systems.

The patented One Seven® procedure has been especially developed and approved foam concentrate is added to the water depending on the volume flow rate. This solution is foamed by introducing air through the patented One Seven® compact foam generators according to preset rates. One Seven® compressed air foam is generated and due to its constant and reproducible quality it clearly stands out from conventional extinguishing foams and also from compressed air foam systems by other manufacturers. This means that one drop of water is transformed into seven foam bubbles during the One Seven® procedure. The content of this water drop is spread onto the surface of seven bubbles. The enlarged surface area reaches a heat absorption ability which is 7-fold increased.

Compared to other extinguishing methods, One Seven® requires only a low quantity of water. Through this, even the water supply is lower, water damage is vastly reduced and less contaminated water requires disposal. Differing types of foam concentrate have especially been developed that are suitable for fighting problematic fuels of the fire classes A, B and F and conditionally for fighting fires of the fire class D. Due to the low proportioning rate of between 0.3 and 0.6%, only a very low foam concentrate supply is required. It is a foam concentrate that is both harmless to health and the environment. Independent testing institutes confirm that it is up to 95% biodegradable within 15 days.

The regulated generation of One Seven® compressed air foam reaches a considerably higher extinguishing efficiency than conventional foam extinguishing systems. Through this it is possible to counteract losses amounting to millions. Research by FM Global, a worldwide leading property insurer, have shown that 43% of all companies do not resume operation after a fire and only 23% of the affected companies will restart business again. However, the subsequent loss of production causes even greater damage. This can be avoided by the single investment in an efficient and automatic firefighting system.

It is possible to install One Seven® fire suppression systems not only in new production plants but also in existing plants.

Compared to conventional foam extinguishing systems, the compressed air foam inside the supply lines achieves considerably greater throwing distances with less energy.

Due to the firefighting monitors used the One Seven® compressed air foam can therefore reach stable throwing distances of up to 60 m. One Seven® rotors will mainly be used for the discharge of the compressed air foam in the application below ceilings. These rotors enable a homogeneous, area-wide spreading of the foam on loose material or otherwise stored goods. The consumption and storage for One Seven® fire suppression systems is considerably lower as the One Seven® class B foam concentrate will be added to the water with a proportioning rate of only 0.5% compared to the proportioning rate in conventional foam firefighting systems of 3-6%.

One Seven® needs only one sixth of the foam concentrate of conventional foam extinguishing systems

One Seven® extensively fights the fire. Due to the high energy, the extinguishing agent deeply penetrates into the fuel. The temperature can quickly and effectively be reduced due to the 7-fold enlarged surface area of the bubbles and their heat absorption ability. The good adhesive properties additionally cause an extended heat transmission. The fuel will additionally be covered by the One Seven® compressed air foam and it will be separated from the oxygen. One Seven® is the only extinguishing agent that effectively fight all of those fire factors.

In comparison we will use an operation time of 90 minutes and a water consumption of 2,000 lpm.

One Seven® system – more than just compressed air foam

5

The compressed air supply can be guaranteed by compressed air bottles or a compressor. It is also possible to use an existing compressed air system. The operating time of the system will individually be aligned to customer’s requirements. Generally, an operating time of 60 minutes is calculated. Within this time, a constant foam quality is generated with the provided media. When activating the system, the foam generation and discharge will immediately be started. The simple “one-button operation” used in our mobile technology will also be used for stationary technology. The whole process of foam generation that is

activated by an external starting signal (like press button release, fire alarm system, control room) is controlled and monitored by a VdS-approved firefighting system control. This control monitors all functions and fittings even in standby condition. One Seven of Germany GmbH already have much experience concerning construction and operation of firefighting systems according to national and international guidelines and standards (like VdS, DIN, EN, FM, NFPA). This experience will permanently be used for the development and planning of new projects. We provide an ideal combination of economic and efficient firefighting systems!

Biological and chemical effects of the foam concentrate

To guarantee a fast penetration of the One Seven® solution into the fuel, the foam concentrate has a very good moisture penetration ability even at a low proportioning rate.

Draves-Test – ASTM E 2281 The One Seven® class A foam concentrate had been developed to have the best moisture penetration ability at a proportioning rate of only 0.3%. This will be confirmed by the so-called Draves-Test: Under same test conditions and with the same test time conventional foam concentrates first start penetrating the fuel and the sinking started after approximately 128 seconds, One Seven® achieved this in 28 seconds!

The “Stored Energy System” of One Seven® is a complete firefighting system that is driven without pump and compressor. The system consists of the components:

• foamgenerator

• pressurewatertank

• foamtank

• nitrogencylinderbank

• systemcontrol

Nitrogen from cylinder banks is used for generating compressed air foam. The required water is stored in the pressure water tank and it is also be charged with pressure via the nitrogen and that adds it to the foaming process in the correct pressure ratio.

The application of this system is provided for locations where the power supply is insufficient for operating a pump or compressor. Only the system control is supplied with power. It is also possible to design the system with a pump for generating the required water pressure and the nitrogen cylinder bank is only be used for generating the compressed air foam. This system is often be applied at heliports. However, it could also be applied at any other location. The operating time of the system is limited due to the limited volume of nitrogen and water. The required operating time will be determined according to the object to be protected and the required application rate so that efficient fire extinguishing can be realised.

Discharge installationsThe generated One Seven® compressed air foam is spread in the extinguishing area via the special One Seven® discharge installations and can therefore achieve its optimal effect. Different installations are available that can be used for area or object protection. The dimensions of the discharge installations are individually adjusted to the application purpose so that the foam quality of the One Seven® compressed air foam is always optimal.

Foam rotors „OS-R-6-1,5“ / „OS-R-6-2“ The One Seven® foam rotors are especially used for area protection. The foam is spread on a circular area on the ground. The rotation of the foam rotor is solely generated by the impulse of the discharged foam. Additional energy is not required. It is possible to foam areas of up to 120 sqm. Due to the installation of the foam rotors at the ceiling of the extinguishing sector, they are still functional even at temperatures of up to 1,200 °C.

Flat jet nozzles „OS-D-FS“ TheOneSeven®flatjetnozzleshavebeendevelopedfor object protection as well as the protection of smaller areas.Thenozzlessprayacircularsectorareaofupto26 sqm. Due to their design, they can ideally be used atlowceilingheights.Thefoamflowrateofthenozzlewill be adjusted to the required application rates. Here, spraying angles of 90° to 120° can be realised.

Swivel monitors The One Seven® swivel monitors are suitable for foaming larger areas. A pneumatic drive causes an automatic oscillation.

Monitors „Sidewinder“ Monitors are used for the targeted discharge of One Seven® compressed air foam over a larger distance. Those monitors can be electrically controlled by a remote control panel ort and they can be pneumatically operated.

Fast attack reels The fast attack reels will be used for the targeted and direct firefighting. The One Seven® fire suppression system can also be operated by trained personell and even non-professionals.

Industrial plants

Effective protection with One Seven®

Fires can quickly be extinguished due to the efficient application of compressed air foam in industrial plants. Due to the lower water consumption, water damage will be reduced. Basically, the One Seven® extinguishing systems are suitable for the application onto objects and for room protection. The dimensionsoftheOneSeven®firefightingsystemarealwaysbedeterminedonthebasisofthesizeof the object to be protected and the required application rate. The discharge of the compressed air foam within the extinguishing sector is made via special One Seven® discharge installations that have especially been developed for the application of compressed air foam.

Object protection

Object protection means that the firefighting system protects a single object inside a room against fire and fire spreading. These objects could be machines, working areas or cable channels. Forthis,OneSeven®nozzlesareplacedaroundtheobject so that it is possible to foam it completely and to guarantee the best protection.

Room protection

Room protection means a protection version designed for larger areas. This could be a single room inside a building or a large production hall. For this, the One Seven® rotors are mounted below the ceiling to guarantee an area-wide protection of the whole room. If a mounting at the ceiling should be impossible, various monitor types can be used.

OS 5000 ST heliport system according to ICAO

Heliports and maritime applicationsAccording to the „General Administrative Regulations for Approval of the Facility and the Operation of Heliports“ (corresponding to the guidelines of the ICAO), heightened heliports must be equipped with specific firefighting installations depending on the categorisation. The primary target is to be able to control and extinguish a fire arising from helicopter accidents during takeoff or landing to enable the rescue of persons and the secondary target is to limit the damage of the building.

The One Seven® heliport firefighting systems can supply bothrequiredremotecontrolledmonitorsand/orhose line with compressed air foam and therefore they guarantee the discharge of high-quality extinguishing foam with large throwing distances.

Fires on ships, offshore oil platforms and also wind energy plants have become more and more a problem for operators and the environment. Recent incidents like „PiperAlpha“and„DeepwaterHorizon“showthattheyare always a catastrophe for fisheries and coastal areas if a fire is not immediately and efficiently fought.

Especially on ships and offshore oil platforms, each fire is not only an economic and ecologic disaster but also an extreme danger for the lives of the crew members.

One Seven of Germany GmbH offers you solutions for firefighting on ships, stationary solutions for all technical and social areas of offshore oil platforms as well as self-sustaining systems for the installation in wind energy plants.

The difference from our competitors, is the foam quality and throwing distance required by standards and guidelines that can never by reached by conventional foam. When using the hose lines, the foam quantity is reduced to enable a safe operation even for non-professionals. After a short introduction, the simple operation of the firefighting system is not only possible for trained firefighters but also for the above mentioned first aiders. The monitors can be controlled remotely via joysticks on a control panel. The control panel can be offered in stationary or mobile design. One Seven® firefighting systems do not only fulfil the different requirements of national and international guidelines but exceeds them to optimally protect your heliport.

Furthermore it is possible to equip harbour areas with a One Seven® system so that it is possible to effectively fight any fire that may occur via cranes and from the wharf on the landside and simultaneously via towboats and firefighting boats from the seaside. The local fire brigade will support the operation, ideally equipped with mobile One Seven® systems.

Specialist plants for the protection of television studios

Television studios are generally large and high rooms with extensive and very expensive technical equipment.

Besides smoke vent installations, those studios are also protected by firefighting systems with connected fire control systems. In the case of a fire, insurance companies usually incur the claim settlement. If the system is activated by mistake or by false alarms this may mean that the water could destroy not only the technology but also any building construction within the studio can heavily be affected. Furthermore, losses due to production that could not have been realised must be considered.

One Seven® fire suppression systems are aligned to such application specifications. The systems are able to automatically generate dry or wet foam and to change over between these two foam types. After the activation of the firefighting system, dry foam will first be supplied to the extinguishing sectors. This foam protects the technology and the equipment of the studio and also the building. If the fire alarm is not switched off, the firefighting systems automatically switch over to wet foam and start fighting the fire.

Television studio protected by One Seven® fire suppression system

Advantages

• protection of sensitive and expensive technology due to automatic generation of foam of different types in one system

• alignment of the operating mode of the firefighting system to individual customer‘s requirements

• less water damage due to reduced water consumption in the extinguishing sectors, and
