BBEE AAWWAARREE AANNDD BBEE PPRREEPPAARREEDD ((WWAATTEERR SSAAFFEETTYY)) –– CCRREEAATTEE AA VVIIDDEEOO In groups of 4-5, students are to create a video titled ‘How to be safe around water. The video must include all of the safety tips learnt from the Water Safety rotation the students participated in.

BBEE AAWWAARREE AANNDD BBEE PPRREEPPAARREEDD ((WWAATTEERR SSAAFFEETTYY)) –– PPOOSSTTEERR PPOOWWEERR As a class, create a poster for every room in your school. The poster should clearly outline the Key Water Safety Messages and tips and be relevant to the area the poster will be placed, i.e. Staff room; very detailed, and Prep classroom; basic with more pictures.

EEVVEERRYYDDAAYY LLIIFFEESSAAVVEERR ((DDRRSSAABBCCDD)) –– PPOOWWEERRPPOOIINNTT Students are to create a PowerPoint presentation that they can use to show students in a younger year level through peer teaching. Older students are required to explain the DRSABCD Emergency Action Plan. Students could present in assembly or actually teach a younger year level.

EEVVEERRYYDDAAYY LLIIFFEESSAAVVEERR ((DDRRSSAABBCCDD)) –– TTEEAACCHH AA FFAAMMIILLYY MMEEMMBBEERR Teach the DRSABCD Emergency Action Plan to a family member or friend. Students must show evidence by having the family member complete a survey/questionnaire on how well the student did.

RREESSCCUUEE SSTTRRAATTEEGGIIEESS –– WWRRIITTEE AA PPRROOCCEEDDUURRAALL TTEEXXTT You are an expert in the field of ‘Rescues’ and you have been asked by the producers at ABC to write a procedural text about ‘How to rescue a person in trouble in the water’.

RREESSCCUUEE SSTTRRAATTEEGGIIEESS –– NNEEWWSSPPAAPPEERR AARRTTIICCLLEE You are a news reporter for Channel 9 and you have been asked to write an article about the 10 year old that acted as an ‘Everyday Lifesaver’ and rescued their sibling from drowning. The article must include details of the rescue and steps the 10 year old took to save her life.

SSAAFFEE BBOODDYY BBOOAARRDDIINNGG –– DDEESSIIGGNN AA BBRROOCCHHUURREE Brochures are a great way to give people important information. Design a brochure which can be placed in the school office for parents to read or take home. Ensure to include the items you need to go body boarding safely.

SSAAFFEE BBOODDYY BBOOAARRDDIINNGG –– RREETTEELLLL WWHHAATT YYOOUU LLEEAARRNNTT Your mother asks you what you learnt at school today. Excited after the Beach Program or Open Water Learning Experience program at your school, you decide to write a recount of everything you learnt about Body Boards since that was your favourite activity.

SSUURRVVIIVVAALL SSTTRRAATTEEGGIIEESS ((LLIIFFEEJJAACCKKEETTSS)) –– CCLLAASSSS DDEEBBAATTEE Should Lifejackets be compulsory no matter how old you are? Divide the class into 2 groups. One group will argue that Lifejackets should be worn at all times no matter your age and the other group will argue that Lifejackets should only be worn by children less than 10. Students should research to support their arguments. The following link will be useful: Transport Safety Victoria

SSUURRVVIIVVAALL SSTTRRAATTEEGGIIEESS ((LLIIFFEEJJAACCKKEETTSS)) –– BBOOAARRDD GGAAMMEE We all love playing board games. Trivial Pursuit, Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly and Scrabble are often among the most popular. Design a board game or activity sheet which helps students learn the DRSABCD Emergency Action Plan. This may also include crosswords and word finds.
