Options galore at this year’s Flagler Restaurant Week Kick-Off Tasting Party Flagler Restaurant Week is not just about food it’s an event! Starting Thurs- day, September 10, Flagler Restaurant Week is back. Restaurant Week is a cel- ebration of the cuisine scene in Flagler County. From fine dining to beach burgers, participating res- taurants will feature special menu items and discounts on their menu from Sep- tember 11-18. Diners will sample Flagler’s newest restaurants, dine at old favorites, and taste a variety of exceptional dishes from 20 restaurants. Restaurant Week is a reminder that Flagler County is a culinary destination with wonderful food, drinks and beautiful scenery. The goal of Flagler Res- taurant Week is to help stimulate our economy by supporting our local res- taurants and motivating the public to dine out and enjoy the culinary diversity our community has to offer. Diners will receive a “Flagler Restaurant Week Dining Passport” when they eat at the participating restau- rants. The diners who visit the most restaurants during the week will be entered in to a drawing to win a culi- nary gift basket and be crowned the 2015 Flagler Foodie. Daily prizes will be given away to diners who post photos on Facebook and tag #FlaglerFoodie. Guests will also vote online for their favor - ite restaurant in ten different categories at www. flaglerrestaurantweek.com. Restaurant winners will be awarded with hand-painted plates to hang in their res- taurant and bragging rights for the year! Get your utensils ready How long have you lived in Flagler County and what’s made you to stay here? I moved here 34 years ago at the age of six. I grew up here and never had any intention to live anywhere else. You just opened your fourth restaurant in Flagler County. Is this something you sought out to do? As our organization has grown, we’ve built a network that’s led to more opportu- nities. We never said “let’s open a bunch of restaurants in Flagler County,” but as we’ve formed relationships, opportunities have surfaced that made this possible. It’s important not how many restaurants we have done, but how broad of a network of people helping people we can create that also allows us to grow. What do you enjoy the most about your industry? I enjoy the philanthropic part of it the most. We get to help so many people, whether it’s catering food after a funeral, feeding high school athletic teams, serv- ing free meals to families as part of Feed Flagler or raising money for the Flagler County Education Foundation and others. Our ability to support local causes and touch a lot of people is both priceless and rewarding. As an alumnus of Flagler Palm Coast High School, what advice would you give this year’s senior class? After high school, I went away. I went to school, played college football, traveled and lived abroad. These experiences made me appreciate how much I loved my hometown. I’d encourage them to go find out what the world is like and then realize that coming home is not nec- essarily a bad thing. Flagler County is a great place to live, raise a family and grow old. What can diners expect when they visit Woody’s Bar-B-Que, Bull Creek Fish Camp, Island Grille and Pit Stop Pizza during Flagler Restaurant Week? The items we specialize in at our restaurants are the best you can get in Flagler County. I’d put Woody’s baby back ribs up against any in the country. It’s a similar situ- ation at Bull Creek Fish Camp. I don’t think there’s a better low country boil or fried fish sandwich in the county. Great food, reasonable prices and an unforgettable old Florida ambience are things you can’t experience anywhere else in our area. Our chef Gary Maresca at Island Grille is one of the most talented I’ve ever met and our focus on building relationships with people made opening this world-class restaurant possible. I’d put the food we serve there up against any restaurant in Florida. The pizza place is still pretty new and we are working with Joe Orza, the former owner of Joseph’s Bistro with his decades of experience and following of people who know his product. Pit Stop Pizza is also in a location where there’s not a pizza place for 20 miles. We are helping a community by offering a local dining amenity that didn’t exist pre- viously. The initial response has been incredible. For more information about Joe’s restaurants and others participating in Flagler Restaurant Week visit, www. flaglerrestaurantweek.com.
