MATHS IN PRIMARY 1
Our aim is to build upon what your
child already knows.
Nurseries place a great emphasis on developing early Literacy and Numeracy skills.
Why do we need Maths?
To tell the time. To make monetary transactions. Weighing fruit/ vegetables in the
supermarket. DIY jobs.
We make Maths relevant for children by linking it to everyday
situations.

We teach Maths so that the children work and learn in a variety of ways.
Whole class lessons.

subtraction. • Length. • Time.• Money.• Data handling.• Weight.
How can you help your child with Maths?
Include maths whenever you can during the day – count steps when walking, time how many minutes they have to brush teeth etc.
