Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

The joyful ‘Alleluia!’ we sing at the Resurrection of the Lord comes from the mystery

    which is a kind of an ‘already and not yet’ reality. Jesus’ resurrection is already a fact;

our resurrection in the Lord is not yet finished. We celebrate at Easter both – resurrection

of Jesus Christ and our own alike; the resurrection in the body and in the spirit.

Saint Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans: “What will separate us from the love of

Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or

the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who

loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things,

nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us

from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:35.37-39)

As we celebrate the empty tomb of Jesus with empty churches, I wish you strong faith and unwavering

hope. Let the prayers coming from our homes keep us one in the Risen Lord. Let the social distance not

put us at a distance from our loving God.

Live streaming of the Mass celebrated at our parish will begin on Easter Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The video is available on the parish website ourladymotherchurch.com or can be accessed directly from

    YouTube https://youtu.be/9RqKFh2p4rQ

On such great holidays such as Easter I tried every year to express my ‘Happy Easter!’ in many languages.

So, I want to do it with my wishes this time as well. We all feel that we should say something more in our

greetings. I would like to use the old Christian greeting commonly used in the first centuries which comes

    from Saint Matthew’s gospel:

Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen!

    Christus resurrexit! Resurrexit vere!

    Χριστὸς ἀνέστη! Ἀληθῶς ἀνέστη!

Cristo è risorto! È veramente risorto!

Christus ist auferstanden! Er ist wahrhaft auferstanden!

Le Christ est ressuscité ! En vérité il est ressuscité !

    ¡Cristo resucitó! ¡En verdad resucitó!

Tá Críost éirithe! Go deimhin, tá sé éirithe!

Nabuhay muli Si Kristo! Nabuhay talaga!

    Chrystus zmartwychwstał! Prawdziwie zmartwychwstał!

Our Lady, Mother of the Church

    Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the

Church, are drawn together through baptism as a

part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic

    community, working together as instruments

through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, con-

tinues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body,

we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s

word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures,

comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the

hands and hearts of the members of the parish,

with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and

has an important part to play in our Parish, Church

and World, we renew our call:

to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucha-

rist, the primary source of our nourishment and

    spiritual growth...

to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of

Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to fami-

    ly, friends, neighbors and workplace...

to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the per-

secuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved…

to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at

times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each

    other...

The Divine Mercy Novena Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on

Good Friday. Our Lord Jesus gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena.

In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her:

"On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this

ocean of My mercy ... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls."

The different souls prayed for on each day of the novena are:

"These souls cause Me more suffering than any others; it was from

such souls that My soul felt the most revulsion in the Garden

of Olives. It was on their account that I said: 'My Father, I

f it is possible, let this cup pass Me by.' The last hope of salvation

for them is to flee to My Mercy."

During the Solemn Novena leading to Divine Mercy Sunday,

the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should be offered each day

    for the day's intentions.

  • Our Lady Mother of the Church Page Nine

    What is Divine Mercy Sunday?

In a series of revelations to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska

in the 1930s, our Lord called for a special feast day to

be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Today, we

know that feast as Divine Mercy Sunday, named by

Blessed John Paul II at the canonization of St. Faustina

    on April 30, 2000.

The Lord expressed His will with regard to this feast

in His very first revelation to St. Faustina. The most

comprehensive revelation can be found in

    her Diary entry 699:

My daughter, tell the whole world about My incon-

ceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for

poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces

upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive

Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day are opened all

the divine floodgates through which graces flow. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins

be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it through-

out all eternity. Everything that exists has come from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul

in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged

from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after

Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My mercy.

In all, St. Faustina recorded 14 revelations from Jesus concerning His desire for this feast.

Nevertheless, Divine Mercy Sunday is NOT a feast based solely on St. Faustina's revelations.

Indeed, it is not primarily about St. Faustina — nor is it altogether a new feast.

The Second Sunday of Easter was already a solemnity as the Octave Day of Easter.

The title "Divine Mercy Sunday" does, however, highlight the meaning of the day.

Happy Spring! Happy Easter! He is Risen!

These are things we hear often at this time of year.

Spring is a time of New Life, when flowers bloom, the grass is appearing greener

with the rain and sunlight last longer. However, the beginning

of Spring 2020 has brought with it darkness and many challenges.

Every time you turn on the television or radio you are bombarded with

information on the Covid 19 Coronavirus, which is necessary yet anxiety

producing. The virus is prevalent in our community so please

continue to follow the CDC guidelines of washing your hands,

sheltering in place and staying home if you are able.

Should you need to go out, remember your social distancing practices

Please know that you are not alone. Despite all the sadness in our world we still

see smiles and “air hugs” are exchanged; people are joining in song from their balconies

or via virtual classrooms and strangers are helping to feed others with home delivered meals

at no cost to the recipient.

Throughout the Bible we are instructed to cast our worries out, placing them at the foot

of the cross and Jesus will take care of us. Let us always keep Christ first in our thoughts

and focus on His Resurrection. By doing this we will be comforted and can embrace

    His hope more easily.

Please know that you are in my prayers.

    Peace,

    - Terri, RN
