Lent How is your Lent going? Have you given up or taken up something? Have you accepted the discipline of Lent as an opportunity to grow in mind and spirit? It is never too late to start. Just as the ashes we receive on Ash Wednesday call us to begin anew, so does the entire season of Lent call us to make a change in our lives that will be long-lasting. This takes time and discipline. We may fail but should always try again. The simplicity of Lent is meant to give us time to stop and think about our lives and in what ways we can grow closer to God. Don’t give up. Keep trying. Stay strong!

Virtue of the Week—Kindness To be gentle and generous toward others. Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion,

kindness, humility, gentleness and patience . . . -Colossians 3:12 Bless us, O God, with kindness. Fill us with such love for you and for our neighbors, that all of our words and actions radiate with joy and comfort, consolation and understanding. Amen

Lenten Reconciliation Service “Even now, says the Lord,

return to me with your whole heart . . .”

Joel 2:12 This Scripture begins the first reading on Ash

Wednesday and sets the tone for the season of Lent.

All are welcome to the Celebration of Reconciliation this Tuesday, March 21,

7:00 p.m. Several priests will be available to hear individual confessions. We receive God’s healing forgiveness for sins committed.

Lord Jesus, you chose to be called the friend of

sinners. By your saving death and resurrection free

me from my sins. May your peace take root in my

heart and bring forth a harvest of love, holiness

and truth. Amen.

Regulations for Fasting and Abstinence Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. Good Friday, April 14, is a day of fast and abstinence. All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

Laetare Sunday The Fourth Sunday of Lent. Laetare means “Rejoice” in Latin. The name comes from the Introit at Mass “Rejoice, O Jerusalem”. It signifies mid Lent, a day of hope, Easter is within sight. Rose Colored Vestments can be worn on this day. The Youth Group is asking our parishioners to wear pink on Laetare Sunday which this year is the weekend of March 25—26. The teens will be wearing pink and will be present accepting donations at all Masses to help with their annual summer trip to Covecrest.

Cuaresma ¿Cómo va tu Cuaresma? ¿Has renunciado o tomado algo? No te rindas. Sigue intentándolo. ¡Mantenerte fuerte!
