Dear Parishioners Happy Christmas to everyone. We have had another great year in our Parishes. I am very happy with the number of people who come to Mass regularly on Sunday most Sundays in our Parishes we have over 2000 people attending Mass, which is great news. With great Parishes like Sunnybank and Acacia Ridge there is always change. Next year will be no different. The Archbishop has appointed a Parish Priest to the Acacia Ridge Parish. Fr Terry Nueva will take over the pastoral care of Parishioners in Acacia Ridge, Algester, Parkinson and Calamvale (western side of Beaudesert Road) beginning some time early in 2015. Fr Terry is presently in the Philippines visiting his sick mother. A new Assistant Priest has been appointed to Sunnybank Parish. Fr Ladu Yanga will begin his Ministry in Sunnybank Parish on January 4th. Fr Ladu is presently the Assistant Priest at Woodridge and was ordained for our Archdiocese early last year. Fr Noy will have his annual holidays from the middle of January to the middle of February returning the day before Ash Wednesday. Fr Peter Kavumparam will finish at Sunnybank on Ash Wednesday. In the Parish office at Sunnybank our long serving part-time secretary Gabby is retiring in February next year. Also Kristen our part-time secretary is finishing up this Christmas. Our Care and Concern coordinator Carol Micale is also retiring in February next year. I am very grateful for the energy, gifts and talents that Gabby, Kristen and Carol have given to our Parishes. After interview processes in the last 3 weeks I have appointed Alice Orwat as full-time secretary at Sunnybank who will be our front desk secretary. I have also appointed Bernadette Christian as our part-time Care and Concern Coordinator. I welcome Alice and Bernadette to our Parish staff. One of the biggest changes we will face in Sunnybank in 2015 is the refurbishment and extension of our Church. There has been a lot of planning carried out during this year to prepare for our new Church. The plans for the Church were sent to the Brisbane City Council in October and we have just finished 3 weeks of advertising locally asking for responses from those living close to the Church. Thankfully at this stage there have been no objections. We hope to proceed with the planning process and when the final approval is given by Brisbane City Council in the next 6 weeks our architect will draw up detailed plans, advertise for builders and we hope to begin building by midyear. This has lots of implications for our everyday use of our Church and we hope to be able to use our Paloma centre for our Sunday Masses. Please pray that everything goes smoothly. I have formed a committee to act as a think tank to help in the planning process for the refurbishment and extension of the Sunnybank Church. The committee consists of Lyn Smith, David Grace, Gerry de Ruyter, Pat Goh and Mike Spann. The committee has met several times already this year and one of the tasks of the committee is to assist in raising funds for the new Church. In the New Year the committee will be asking for your financial help by advertising items in the Church which you could assist in paying for. These items include new pews, new altar furniture (e.g. a new chair for the Priest, a new marble reading stand, work on the marble altar), new furniture in the Priests sacristy and working sacristy, new furniture in the Reconciliation rooms, a new Baptistry and many more items. We were taken back a little when the first quote came in for new pews costing $6000 each. (continued page 2....) Sister Stella has been working hard at interviewing parents whose children are in year 3 or older who wish to celebrate the Sacraments of First Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation next year. If you wish your child to receive the Sacraments next year you are asked to have an interview with Sister Stella some time in January. You can access more details on our website olol.com.au under the heading of ”Sacraments” then “Sacramental Program”. Since the Parish office will be closed until 5th January please call after that date to make an appointment with Sister Stella. On behalf of the St Vincent to Paul Conferences of our Parishes I would like to thank you for your generosity in helping so many people in our Parishes with food hampers and financial help during this time of Christmas. 173 families were helped in our Parishes.

A BIG THANK YOU ! On behalf of all our Parishioners I would like to thank firstly our office staff who have kept the Parish running smoothly again this year. A big thank you to Karrin, Gabby, Tam and Kristen for all their hard work during the year. Thank you to Carol Micale who has looked after so well the Care and Concern Ministry of our Parish. Also thank you to Bob and his helpers Les and Harry who have kept the properties clean and tidy. We have a wonderful staff and I am very grateful to each of them who have looked after our Parishioners throughout the year. I am glad that Sister Stella has had a healthy year this year. Thank you Sister Stella for all the work you do in our Parishes particularly with organising the Sunday liturgies, RCIA, the Sacramental program for the children and everything else you do for our Parishes. A big thank you also to Eloise and Steven Bird who have led and organised our youth activities so well. I am sure they will experience Christmas in a different way with their young son Isaac. So many people contribute their time and talent to allow our Masses to be so well organised and prayerful. A big thank you to our Sacristans, Liturgy Committee, Mass Coordinators, Readers, Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Data Projectionists, Musicians, Singers, Collectors, Counters and Piety Stall Volunteers. Thank you each one of you. There are so many volunteers in our Parishes who work behind the scenes. On your behalf I thank our Pastoral Council and our Finance Council for the time and energy that they have given to our Parishes throughout the year.

I am very happy to thank our 4 school principals Mark Badke, Peter Elmore, Warren Fields and Steve Taylor. Steve Taylor has retired as the school principal at St Stephen’s School. We wish Steve all the best in his retirement and welcome Mr Phillip Manitta as the new principal at St Stephens. We are very proud of the three Primary Schools and St Thomas More College which are the schools in our Parishes. I wish all our school staff a Happy Christmas. On behalf of Fr Noyichan, Fr Peter and Jack Ho our Seminarian I thank all our Parishioners for all they have done throughout the year. A very Happy and Holy Christmas to you all.

Jesus is born!!

Merry Christmas to everyone!

We pray that this Christmas you will welcome Jesus into your

heart. We pray that you have a special time with family and friends, celebrating the real reason for this wonderful season!

What a year it has been! A big thank you to all the people who have offered their time and

talents to help make the youth ministered Mass so vibrant and special this year. Thank you to Fr Noy for celebrating the youth ministered Mass for us each Sunday and helping us to grow

in our spiritual lives. To the readers, special ministers, altar servers, offertory people, BBQ

cookers and servers and those who served in the piety store thank you! A BIG thank you to all the musicians and singers who come early every week to practice and stayed late to help

pack up, we really appreciate your time and talents and you really do lead our community in worship during the Mass.

Thank you to the young adults (and year 11 and 12 students) who have helped in running the youth and young adult activities over the year, Alex, Cassandra, Chantelle, Caitlin, Elmer,

Georgia, Kristen, Marta, Maria, Mikaela, Samantha, Sarah G, Sarah L, Tiffany, Yvonne, Anthony, Joe, Lachlan, Matt, Nick, Paolo, Tom and Ty – you have all been such a blessing

throughout the year, especially while we were working out how to juggle a baby and youth ministry. We have no doubt that you have all impacted our young people in many ways,

thank you for your dedication and commitment to this awesome ministry.

We are so blessed and humbled to be the youth coordinators at Sunnybank and are

constantly blown away by the beauty of this parish community! God is truly present in this parish!! Thank you to everyone for your prayers and support, our lives have changed so

dramatically over the last 12 months with our little Isaac but it has been so easy with the

support and love of this parish and of course our priests, Fr Dan and Fr Noy and Fr Augustine and the office staff.

We are so excited about 2015 and all the wonderful things God has in store. We will be

starting an amazing new program next year called Life Teen and are so excited about all that it has to offer!!

We pray that God bless you and your families this Christmas and that He draws you closer to Himself always.

God bless

Steven and Eloise Bird (and Isaac!)
