MASSES FOR THE WEEK NEXT WEEKEND—FEBRUARY 23/24 IS PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH

MEMBERSHIP SUNDAY Next weekend, we will have the pleasure of host-ing the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary from Bryn Mawr, PA. as they share the importance of missionary work with us. At that time you are invited to join in the worldwide mission of Jesus by joining the Propagation of the Faith. What better way to celebrate this year than to help bring the life-giving message and the love of Christ to millions of the poorest people in the world today? We can do this— all of us— by praying daily for the missionary work of the Church, offering our personal crosses for missionaries and those they serve, and making financial gifts. Each year, 15,000 Masses are celebrated by mis-sion priests for members for the Propagation of the Faith, living and deceased. We are called at baptism to be “missionaries.” Please say, “Yes” in this special way next weekend. Envelopes will be available for your mission gift. Thank you very much.

SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Lk 6:17, 20-26 In today’s Gospel from Luke, Jesus describes the true richness of life that is possible for those of us who are willing to live as his disciples. We are all familiar with this passage in which Jesus reveals the Beatitudes: Blessed are the poor; they have the kingdom of God. Blessed are those now hungry because they will be satisfied. Blessed are those who weep because they will laugh. Blessed are those who ae hated, excluded and insulted because they are disciples of Jesus; they will be greatly rewarded in heaven. Jesus is de-scribing here the character of one who is living a life of hope — the life of a Christian steward whose trust is firmly rooted in God and who is focused on others and eternity. It is not always an easy life, but it is a deeply meaningful life and one that leads to eternal reward. Catholic Stewardship Consultants, 2019

LIFE AND DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN PERSON

The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the founda-tion of a moral vision for society. This belief is the founda-tion of all the principles of our social teaching. In our society, human life is under direct attack from abortion and euthana-sia. The value of human life is being threatened by cloning, embryonic stem cell research, and the use of the death penal-ty. The international targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching also calls on us to work to avoid war. Nations must protect the right to life by finding increasingly effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every per-son is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threat-ens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person. ~~Genesis 1:26-31 God created man and woman in his image. ~~Deuteronomy 10:17-19 God loves the orphan, the widow, and the stranger. ~~Psalms 139:13-16 God formed each of us and knows us intimately. ~~Proverbs 22:2 The Lord is the maker of both rich and poor. ~~Luke 10:25-37 The Good Samaritan recognized the dignity in the other and cared for his life. ~~John 4:1-42 Jesus boke with societal and religious customs to honor the dignity of the Samaritan woman. ~~Romans 12:9-18 Love one another, contribute to the needs of others, live peaceably with all. ~~1 Corinthians 3:16 You are holy, for you are God’s temple and God dwells in you. ~~Galatians 3:27-28 All Christians are one in Christ Jesus. ~~James 2:1-8 Honor the poor. ~~1 John 3:1-2 See what love the Father has for us, that we should be called Children of God. ~~John 4:7-12 Let us love one another because love is from God.
