Peace , Fr. Walter

A good moment in the New Testament to keep in mind, is one where Jesus basically says, if two or three are gathered in His name-whatever they ask for will be given to them. I love that passage because it offers so much confidence for all our prayer lives. But then, it can lower our confidence too, when we do just that and, in our perception, we do not get our prayers answered. What can we do then? We could fall back on that older teaching that says if God doesn’t give us what we ask for in prayer, He will give something better. I was brought up with that teaching myself. Of course, I was also brought up to believe that when we pray, it should always be done with His Will in mind. Christ prays that way just before He is ar-rested and begins His Passion. Remember? It went along the lines of, “Father - if this cup could be removed from me. But not my Will, but your Will be done.” These additional teach-ings can console and comfort any of us. Still, some people need more. They end up praying less and less, as they wonder why God just is not answering their prayer. Something else seeming-ly is needed to really enhance our perspective here. And I have it! What is needed can be found just before the passage mentioned above. Spe-cifically, just before Christs statement that two or three believing people praying together will have their prayers answered, He offers teaching on forgiving people - which also includes receiving forgiveness. It must be that way, i.e., receiving forgiveness ourselves, because Christ says that we should love others as we love ourselves. I find it fascinating that these two teachings are given so close to each other. I can only conclude that they are best under-stood if applied in the order given. In other words, if I want any prayer answered, my first step is to forgive anyone who has offended me. I should also ask for forgiveness from anyone I have offended. Now, I get together with one or two other people, at least, who have gone through a similar process of forgiving others and asking for forgiveness. NOW we three who have gone through this process get together for prayer. All that is left is for us to observe how powerful our prayer becomes. The Scriptures indicate that a qualitatively difference will be present, and on multiple levels. Consider the results of such prayer. I will certainly have a more powerful experience of God. My experience of God will be so powerful, in fact, that all I want is for God’s Will to be done. At this point I won’t even be bothered by what appears to be unanswered prayer, as I would be before I allowed forgiveness in my life as Jesus teaches. I am so immersed in forgiveness, remember, that I am now really into God’s Will being done anyway. Forgiveness allows my con-sciousness to really expand. My awareness is so much greater. The last benefit is that my original prayer intention may well be answered as presented. The prayers of my prayer-partners included!!! The enrichment of my attitudinal stance before God is what matters here. And the reason why it becomes so enhanced is simply because of our willingness to follow the teachings of the Lord - and immerse ourselves in forgiveness.

From Father Walter’s desk… “Feeling Powerful Today? No? Try Forgiveness”

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR MASS INTENTIONS In order to follow the directives of the Diocese regarding Mass intentions based upon Canon Law 953, changes are needed to comply with this law. Canon 953 states that no Mass intention may be taken that cannot be fulfilled within one year. The following changes allow the parish to be more responsive to the spiritual needs of our parishioners

by having a Mass said in a timely manner and follow the law. 1. Effective immediately, no Mass intention will be taken more than one year from the current date. For example, on October 1 2017 the parish may schedule a Mass for October 1, 2018. All Masses that have been scheduled for 2018 will be honored, but the new policy is effective immediately for Masses requested after the cur-rent date, 2018. 2. The Sunday 8:30 am. Mass will now be a COLLECTIVE INTENTION MASS. This means that this Mass may have multiple intentions. This MAJOR change gives the parish the flexibility to have intentions prayed for within 6 days of the request. All intentions for the Sunday 8:30 a.m. Mass will be announced. Having multiple intentions does NOT DIMINISH your intention, in fact, God’s infinite grace and mercy is endless and you will be showing great compassion and understanding for another person who is in need of immediate prayers. 3. Con-celebrated Masses are also a good option to have a Mass said for someone’s intention close to the request. This can take place when we have 2 or more priests at a weekday 7:30 a.m. Mass. The exact day of the request cannot be determined, because of the variability of Masses with a concelebrant. The name of the intention will be announced along with the one you see in the bulletin. We hope that these new procedures will ensure your inten-tion will be in a timely manner.

Couples for Christ is a Catholic organization intended for the renewal and strengthening of Christian fami-ly life. CFC works for Christian couples wishing to deepen their faith by helping one another to revive their relationship with our Lord and to allow themselves to be renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit. It started in 1981 with 16 couples. Within a few years, the association was recognized by the Philippine Bishop’s Con-ference, and its new approach to evangelization spread in the parishes as a program for the renewal of fami-ly life. On March 11, 2000 the Pontifical Council for the Laity decreed recognition of Couples for Christ as

an International Association of the Faithful Pontifical Right.

We, in Couples for Christ are called to take up the very mission of Jesus in bringing glad tidings to the poor, both spiritually and materially, through it’s two-fold global mission of “Building the Church of the Home and Building the Church of the

Poor.” We are very grateful to Fr. Walter Dziordz, our pastor and together with the Parish Council for giving us the oppor-tunity to serve in our parish, Our Lady of Peace. Now, as a member of the Parish Ministry, Couples for Christ would like to

invite the parishioners to Marriage Enrichment Seminar (MES) Saturday, October 7, 2017, Our Lady of Peace Church Hall from 9:00am-5:00pm

(lunch, snacks and childcare will be provided)

There is no obligation, no registration fee to join MES. It’s absolutely free, All we need is your humble presence.

ANGELS at OLP Our school recently had two angel statues donated to us. The statue on the left is near the pre-kindergarten entrance and was donated by the Clay family. Elliot is a new Pre-K four year old and mom, is one of our Pre-K four year old teachers. The statue on the right is of an angel looking over two children was donated by Father Walter. This statue is perfect for our school because of the children present. This statue stands to the left of the main entrance of the school. Come check at the new additions to our school entrances. Angels are definitely looking out for us at Our Lady of Peace School. PRE-KINDERGARTEN There are still a couple of slots available for our pre-kindergarten program. There are few half day options available for our three year old program and both half and full day options available at the four year old level. Do you have a son or daughter that has recently turned three or will be turning three before January 1st? Did you know that you could send your child to our Tuesday/Thursday morning program to get a jump start on pre-kindergarten. Please call the school office (630-325-9220) with any questions that you may have about this. All children in the pre-k program must be potty trained and out of pullups.

America Needs Fatima October 14, 2017

12:00 noon In front of the Marquee in the

Church parking lot

America is at a historic crossroad. Secularists are trying to push God

from the public square more than ever before. They reject His beneficiary action upon society. But without God, where will our leaders get the

wisdom to solve the great problems we continue to face? We must stop the secularist advance and

pray to God for help through the intercession of His Mother, Mary. This year, more than ever, we need to pray for our country and its leaders. That is why we’re launching the eight Public Square

Rosary Crusade.

This is a nationwide rally to be held across the country on this day and time. It will only take about 40 minutes. Please join us this year and

bring a friend and a lawn chair.
