Howdy,
I think we all can agree that right now we are
living in an angry culture. Whether it is drivers
on the road, the news we watch, and in an elec-
tion year the campaign talk we must listen to,
everywhere it seems there is anger and hatred.
Bishop Olmsted has recently been talking about
our role as Catholics as Stewards of Anger...yes,
stewards of anger. Anger is not simply bad, it
can remind us of evil and wrong in our world.
But we must be good stewards of our anger, not
feeding more hatred by our actions, but working
to right the wrongs.
How we handle our anger is very important, and
can be difficult. One way is to be sure that we
have some fun in our lives. Fun is relaxing and
helps soothe the tension that anger brings. Of
course, this leads to next weekend and our Parish
Fall Festival.
This is such a wonderful opportunity to gather
and celebrate as a community and family. We
always have friends from the past who come to
celebrate with us. Just the joy of the lights and
music...and especially the good food is a lift for
our souls.
Please join me in celebrating our parish family
next weekend.
Pax,
Father Mike

Felizmente, "no te-
Enséñanos a amar
como tú.

All of us struggle with the desire to be recog-
nized and with the reluctance to forget our-
selves in service to others. Happily, “we do
not have a high priest who is unable to sympa-
thize with our weaknesses, but one who has
been similarly tested…yet without sin.” Re-
member Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness?
Satan tempted Jesus to take the world’s path to
greatness and renounce the way of suffering,
but Jesus conquered temptation. He fully un-
derstands how hard it is for us to follow Him.
But, thankfully, because He defeated Satan and
“passed through the heavens” to God’s right
hand, we can “hold fast to our confes-
sion” (keep on believing in Him). When we
feel weak, we can “confidently approach the
throne of grace to receive mercy and to find
grace for timely help.”
In our Gospel, we see James and John a mis-
placed human confidence. In Hebrews, we
learn how to be confident in the right way.
Lord Jesus, we need your mercy and grace to
choose self-denial today. Teach us how to love
like you.
