All are welcome!

FR. STEELE’S REFLECTION: “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at

the sky?” Acts 1: 1-11 “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to

every creature.” Mark 16: 15-20 “Holy Father, keep them in your name that you gave

me, so that they may be one just as we are one.” John 17: 11b-19

God’s Name is “Breath”

In Judaism, it is forbidden to pronounce the name of God. God’s name in Hebrew is Yahweh – the name God revealed to Moses in the burning bush. No reverent Jew would dare utter the word; instead, the word Adonai - meaning “Lord,” – is said.

When writing the word, many Jews omit the vowels, writing only the consonants Y-H-W-H. Try pronouncing the letters Y-H-W-H. Without any vowels, the sound you will utter is not a word, but only the blowing of your breath. The real name of God is beyond pronunciation – unless you consider breathing a word.

An ancient Jewish prayer apparently does:

“The breathing of all life praises Your Name.”

For the breathing of all life is Your Name, O God.

[From a sermon by Rabbi Arthur Waskow, The Shalom Center.]

God expressed as breath, breath that is essential to all life: the name of God is the life every creature in-hales. In his final prayer at the Last Supper (the setting of today’s Gospel), Jesus commends his disciples to the Father: “Keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one.” It is that name, that “breath” of God that unites us as a human family, that bring us together as the people of God. These days between the Lord’s Ascension and Pentecost call us to discern the Spirit of God – in Hebrew, the “ruah” or “breath” of God – and inviting us to communion in the love of God; to realize the Kingdom of God in this time and place, in which all of us and all of creation, are made one in the “breath” that is the very name of God.

Grand Annual Appeal We continue to make major strides in donations to our Grand Annual Appeal. If you have not al-ready given, we invite you to contribute to the Appeal which funds the major projects that main-tain the beauty and magnificence of our Church and the state-of-the-art quality of our parish facili-ties. Please help us to increase the donations to date as we come so close to attaining our parish goal of $190,000.00.

We thank you sincerely for your generosity and contin-ued support of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Parish.

Envelopes are available in Church pews & at Church exits.

We have launched the 2015 Catholic Appeal at Our Lady, Star of the Sea. We invite you to prayerfully consider making a generous gift. The Catholic Appeal sustains over 50 ministries serving our parish and many people throughout the Archdiocese. These ministries support the hundreds of pastoral, charitable and educa-tional programs here at Our Lady, Star of the Sea and across the Archdiocese. Pledge envelopes are available in the pews and at the Church exits. The pledge enve-lopes can be returned with the Offertory Collection. If you would like to make an online pledge, please visit www.bostoncatholicappeal.org.

Your contributions to date amount to $57,645.00 which represents 70.5% of our parish goal of $81,734.00. We thank you sincerely for your support of the Catholic Ap-peal through which we have the opportunity to join in the Church’s universal work of care for those among us who are in need.

Catholic Communication Campaign This week’s second collection supports the Catho-lic Communication Campaign (CCC). If Jesus Christ were on earth today, how would he spread his message of salvation? Wouldn’t he use all communication vehicles to share the Good News? The CCC believes Jesus would use as many means as possible, and that is why it supports pro-jects that use the entire array of media tools avail-able today to evangelize and promote Gospel val-ues. Please visit www.USCCB.org/ccc for more information. 50% of the collection will remain at the parish to promote local communication ef-forts, such as website technology and bulletins.

Our Religious Education Director, Mary Pagliarulo, thanks the families for their support and commitment in preparing our young communicants to receive the Holy Eucharist.

Our class presented colorful banners symbolizing the Holy Eucharist which they created with their Baptismal names.

This year’s First Communion class included seven sets of twins (six sets represented here).

And here we have our missing set—the Kobus twins, Alex and Nicholas.
