Agnelo De Souza Early Life - Fr Agnelo, was born at Anjuna, Goa on 21st January, 1869. His parents had nine children, among whom Agnelo was the sixth child. He grew up manifesting qualities of gentleness, of love and purity, humility and obedience combined with a strong sense of self-discipline. Teach- ing catechism to the boys was his favourite childhood hobby. When he was eleven, his parents died suddenly. As his mother was dying, she entrusted her children to the care of Mary, Mother of Jesus. Call - Fr Agnelo pursued a call to the priest hood. He studied philosophy and theology at the Patriarchical Seminary, Rachol. He aimed at cultivating assiduously all the priestly virtues. He was ordained as Priest on 24th September, 1898. Pilar Missionary - As a member of the Society of Pilar, it took him to Shiroda and Sanvordem in Goa, besides Kumta near Karwar. He left in all these places a memorable legacy of his holy living and pastoral concern. He had an intense devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and spent a few hours each night in adoration. Our Patron

Ven Fr. Agnelo De SouzaEarly Life - Fr Agnelo, was born at Anjuna, Goa on 21st January, 1869. His parents had nine

The Coat of ArmsThe coat of arms of the college consist of a shield divided into three quarters with an open book, graduation cap and a balance with a motto inscribed around the borders.

The open book signifies the institution that higher education is for all and will be made available to those who have been hitherto deprived of it.

The balance signifies the institutions resolve to maintain a balance between economic necessity and moral values. While the emphasis will be to make pupils competitive and employable in an economically challenging world, equal emphasis will be given to moral development including respect, discipline, cooperation, social concern and promotion of the values of truth justice and equality.

The graduation cap signifies success that economically, socially and academically challenged student will walk the path of success through holistic education under their belts that will enable them to face the challenges of the world.

Having finished Higher Secondary School, you are now at the threshhold of choosing a career that will determine what you will do in the years to come. The institution offers three UG courses, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Computer Applications with a wide choice of subject combinations. The institution also conducts certificate and skill-based courses every year along with the regular studies. Additionally, the College has two Research Centres to pursue Ph.D. degree in Commerce and Economics.

Welcome to Fr. Agnel College

Fr. Agnel College was established in June 1991 by the Xaverian Educational Society, Pilar, and belongs to the Society of Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, which is commonly known as the Society of Pilar. The college is a Minority Institution founded under the provision of Article 30 of the Indian Constitution.

Location:The College is located at the foot of the picturesque Pilar hillock in the North District of Goa. Pilar has its own importance in Goa’s history as it was the capital city of Goa (prior to Old Goa & Panjim) and it was known as ‘Govapuri’ or ‘Gopakapattana’ during the Kadamba reign.

The College is located centrally on the map of Goa. It is situated about 300 mts away from the National Highway 66. It is 13 kms away from Panjim, the capital city of Goa and 22 kms from Margao, the commercial capital of Goa. The College is about 16.5 kms from international airport at Dabolim.

The total campus area of the College is about 10 acres.

Fr Agnel College is affiliated to Goa University. The College is recognized under sections 2(f ) and 12-B of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The College was reaccredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in 2016 with Grade ‘A’ (2nd Cycle).

Admissions - Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for admission to Semester I & II (in the first year) B. A./B.Com/ B.Com. (Hon.) Programme: (A) To be eligible for admission to the Semester I of the Three Years Programme leading to the Degree of

Bachelor of Arts/ Commerce/ Commerce (Hon.) the candidate should have passed: (i) The Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) examination conducted by the Goa Board of

Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in any stream, including Vocational stream in the sub-jects notified by the University from time to time.

OR(ii) Std XII Arts/Science/Commerce or similar examination of another body, equivalent to Goa Board

of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Goa, and recognized as such by Goa University. (B) A candidate not covered under any of the above categories but desirous of seeking admission to the

said course may apply to the College. However, the Registrar along with Dean of concerned Faculty and Chairperson(s) of Board(s) of Studies of concerned subjects shall decide the eligibility.

(C) A candidate admitted for Semester-I shall be deemed eligible for admission to Semester-II. (D) A candidate migrating from another recognized University and desirous of direct admission to Se-

mester-II may be considered for admission provided he/she has cleared/passed First Term/ Semes-ter-I examination of that University with those subjects for which admission is sought and under-takes to successfully complete the other compulsory Courses of Semester-I.

Eligibility for admission to Semester I & II (in the first year) B. C. A. Programme: For BCA programme admission eligibility criteria from points A to D as shown above remains the same.

In addition, a candidate shall be selected based on an entrance test. The entrance test shall access the general aptitude, logical reasoning and analytical abilities and basic arithmetical skills of the candi-date.

Candidates seeking admission to Fr. Agnel College are required to observe the following procedure:

Step l Buy the prospectus from the College by registering your mobile number. Students should use same mobile number for registration and filling online admission form.

Step 2 Apply online at www.fragnelcollege.edu.in Select "Admission" from the main menu, and select the sub menu "Online Admission".

Step 3 Read the instructions, terms and conditions carefully and then select the programme and year you are seeking admission into.

Step 4 On the ensuing screen, enter the registered mobile numberr and completre the registration

Step 5 Fill in the application form with your correct details. All fields are compulsory. No changes to the form will be allowed after submission and therefore make sure that the information entered is correct and vaIid; choice of actual papers will be "confirmed" only after counselling.

Step 6 Upload your passport size photograph and your signature

Step 7 After you have submitted the completed form, you will receive an online admission lD. Note down this ID. This ID will be used for all future references during the admission process. Print the form and then carry the printed copy with you on the day of admission.

Step 8 Submit photocopies of your SSC and HSSC mark sheets. Your admission ID should be mentioned on all the documents. These documents should be submitted at the college office before the last day of submission. Online registration is not valid and complete unless the above mentioned documents are submitted.

Step 9 Students whose names appear on the merit list should follow procedure as given in Stage ll

Note: (i) For those who do not have access to internet facility, you can avail of the internet facilities provided by the College on the ground floor.

(ii) For admissions to BCA streams, students will have to also appear for an entrance test.

Admission ProcedureStage I

PRIORITY ASSURED ADMISSIONS

Students with 60% and above marks (in XIIth Commerce, Science & Arts) and 65% and above (in XIIth Vocational) will be admitted directly; the names of such students will qualify for direct admissions. However, the admission procedure as listed above will have to be followed.

The following procedure has to be observed at the time of admissions to FYBA/ BCom/BCA

1. Students selected for the admissions for the First Year are required to bring along a printout of the online Registration Form (printing facility is also available in the College)

2. Students should know the blood group at the time of admission.

3. After successful registration process, on a pre-announced date shortlisted students will be notified by SMS (list of students will also be displayed on the Notice Board). On receipt of this notification (which confers provisional admission status), students will have to pay the fees within one day via NEFT/RTGS, Net banking and/or by visiting the College, collecting the challan, and paying the fees by going to the bank.

4. On a notified date all the students accompanied by the parents / guardians are to compulsorily attend the orientation given by the Principal at 9.00 a. m. in Shallom Hall in the College, failing which their admission will not be finalized and such seats may be forfeited. Coming late is strictly discouraged. On this day students have to provide stamped challans, NEFT/RTGS/Net banking slips as proof of payment of fees

5. Students accompanied by the Parents /Guardians then have to submit the Admission Forms to the Admission Committee for scrutiny, selection of papers and to append specimen signature of the parents /guardians. Decision of Admission Committee will be final and binding upon the students while choosing the subjects.

6. Students accompanied by their parents/guardians are to meet the Principal for finalization of admissions.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED on Admission Day (see step 4 above)

• Original copy and attested photocopy of class 12 marksheet.

• Original copy of Higher Secondary School Leaving certificate.

• Three recent passport-size photographs.

• Candidates who have passed out from other Boards of Examination have to obtain an Eligi- bility Certificate from Goa University.

• Attested photocopy of ST/SC certificate, if applicable.

(Students are also requested to get required information of the Bank Name, Branch and Bank Account No., besides Aadhar No.)

Stage II

Career Oriented CourseThe College conducts Career Oriented Courses for the students. It is envisaged that through these courses professionally qualified graduates with a sound knowledge of their core disciplines and expertise in a concerned skill, will have more openings in the service industry and self employment sectors.

Off Campus Academic Centre (IGNOU)Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar Goa is the Study Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) with code No. 08026. The Study Centre offers B.A., B.Com , B.P.P. and M.Com programmes, besides other certificate courses.

Spiritual Formation: Daily Prayer, Motivational Programs/Lectures, activities related to inter-faith dialogue etc are all regular features of this College.

INFLIBNET: The College is a member of N-list programme of Library and Information Network (INFLIBNET), Ahemedabad. The Project entitled “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST) provides access to e-resources to students, researchers and faculty from colleges and other beneficiary institutions through server(s) installed at the INFLIBNET Centre. The authorized users from colleges can now access e-resources and download articles required by them directly from the publisher’s website once they are duly authenticated as authorized users through servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre. The N-list project provides access to more than 2100 electronic journals, 51 ,000 electronic books and a bibliographic database. For registration the students may contact College Librarian along with their e-mail id.

College Library : The College Library has open access and is fully computerized with the help of NewGenLib library software. The library has over 18000 printed books, 85 print journals and magazines, 6000+ electronic journals, 51000+ e-books and bibliographic databases. The library has also bought books in braille for visually challenged students

The Library has its own website http://faclibrary.weebly.com. The students can access digital documents such as syllabi, questions papers, power-point presentations, notes and other information about the library.

The students who have scored 60% and above marks in their previous examination are given additional library card. i.e. SCHOLAR CARD. Students belonging to SC/ST/OBC class are given one additional Library Card. i.e. SOCIAL CARD. Minority students too have the facility of an extra card.

A Book Bank facility is available exclusively for the economically challenged students.

The Library offers the college students, a free of cost, 2 credit course to learn multi-disciplinary subjects. The students who wish to complete the course have to spend minimum 30 hours of work during a free lecture or any time during the academic year under the guidance of the College Librarian. The students will be given basic training in the field of Library and Information Science.

Placement Portal: Employers can use this portal to communicate with the college placement office and this could facilitate online campus recruitment. After obtaining necessary permissions prospective employers could initiate the process of hiring our students and alumni online. The link to this portal is available from the college website

Counselling: A professional Counsellor is available for the benefit of the students. Motivational talks are also organized. The Counselling services will be available throughout the week from academic year 2019-20.

Mentoring Scheme: The success and strength of an educational institution lies mainly in its students. Students thus need to be given all possible attention and support. To achieve this goal, the College has a mentoring scheme, wherein different lecturers are assigned for different groups of students. The concerned lecturer to that group acts as guide and mentor.

Value Education: To be grounded and not to be lost in the demands placed by the materialistic world, value education sessions are conducted twice a month for students of all programmes. The syllabus delves into personal, social and spiritual values. In the case of all Second Year classes, there will be regular sessions on Value Education every week, ultimately giving students a certificate in life skills at the end of the year.

Computer Centre: A well equipped computer centre with Internet facility is available at the College. The College has subscribed to 16 MBPS lease line for faster net connectivity.

Indoor Sports room: The College has an Indoor Sports Room where facilities for indoor games like carrom, chess, table- tennis are provided.

Audio Visual Classroms : All classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors and screen with green board. It makes learning interactive and interesting.

Auditorium/Halls: A full fledged auditorium and two spacious halls, belonging to the Management, are available for the conduct of extra curricular activities organised by the College or other institutions. Besides providing adequate seating capacity, the halls have an amenities essential for the conduct of National/International level programmes.

Gymnasium: The College has a well equipped gymnasium with latest exercising machines such as Treadmill, Twister, Exercising Cycle, Bench Press, Incline / Decline and other essential amenities.

Girls Common room: There is a separate common room for girl students. The room has facilities like tables, chairs, fans, mirror, racks etc. It is also provided with magazines, newspapers, college magazines, and bulletin (Happenings) etc.

Remedial Classes: Student Development Programmes such as Bridge / Remedial classes for weak students are carried out after the regular lectures and during holidays

Coaching Classes: The College is also a centre for coaching minority students for Civil Service Exams and other competitive exams at the State and National level like IAS, GPSC, Banking, CET, etc

Co-curricular activities: Emphasis is laid on the need to balance in class and out-of-class life. The students work hard in class, but they also utilise energy for diverse activites such as: Elocutions, Seminars, Debates, Industrial visits, Quizzes, Skits, Cultural items etc.

Canteen: The College has a clean, hygienically maintained and spacious canteen providing nutritious items.

Convenience Centre: Books, pens, CDs, files and other stationery items are made available at subsidized rates.

Lift: Lift facility for differently abled students is available.

Beyond the ClassroomStudent Activities and Leadership Opportunities

Impetus(NATIONAL LEVEL EVENT): The Staff and Students organise an annual inter collegiate event Impetus which is an amalgamation of Commerce, Arts & I.T. events that test the true mettle of any student.

Sports Festival

In keeping with the motto of holistic development of the students, sports activities are given due importance. The students have been consistently performing well in the inter-collegiate sporting events organized by the Goa University. The College also organizes an inter-collegiate Cross Country Race and Traditional Sports Festival.

Cultural ActivitiesCultural Activities besides being an explosion of fun, provide students with a platform to showcase their talent and creativity. Activities like singing ,, folk dance, street play, Ad making, fun days, rangoli, matoli. Carol singing and competitions among many other are organised to ignite their talent.

Student CouncilThe Students Council’s is constituted with the following aims and objectives 1. To promote all round development of the students of the college. 2. To help the Principal in maintenance of discipline and good service to the students and institution.3. To organise curricular and extracurricular

activities of the College under the guidance of the Principal and the faculty members.

4. To discuss any suggestions, plans of actions, issues etc. pertaining to the general welfare of the student community of this college.

Collaborations, partnerships and MoUs: The College has various tie-ups and MoUs with prominent national & state level institutions. Through the same the College fosters student exchange, conduct of training sessions for bank entrance exam, UPSC test and other skill enhancing & job facilitating courses. Some of the courses/training is free, with some even offering stipend to the students on completion of the course; with some even leading to offer of jobs.

Skill enhancement CoursesCollege conducts various skill enhancement courses such as chocolate making, flower making, music etc.N. S. S.

N. S. S. aims at developing in students an insight to identify and tackle the problems and needs of society. It builds up a democratic attitude in students, brings out quality of leadership and encourages them to offer ‘selfless service’ for humanity. Activities under NSS are broadly divided into : Regular activities & Special Camp of 7 days duration

N. C. C. NCC nurtures discipline, broad outlook, leadership qualities and also cultivates a spirit of patriotism and fraternity. Activities under NCC include parades, boat sailing, firing, camps, etc

Seminars/Workshops/ConferencesSeminars, workshops and conferences are organized at the State/National/International level to keep the faculty and students abreast of the latest developments in various fields. The events address a wide variety of topics and issues and are chaired by people who have achieved great heights in their chosen profession or area of interest. The Conferences bring together the students community and the corporate world with a view to enhancing knowledge.

Career Guidance, Job Training & Placement Cell This Cell is actively engaged in the career counseling of the students. It initiates interaction with various Industries, and Companies and organises campus interviews, job fairs etc. Workshops, Training Programs, Mock interviews are organised to prepare students for this selection process. A number of students get selected in various companies.

Women CellThis Cell is actively engaged in awakening the students to the crimes against women that are rampant in society. The Cell organizes workshops and invites students to express their views, thereby helping practical empowerment to the students. Gender champions of the College, though have their own role to play are also closely linked with this Cell.

CREST (Centre for Research between Society & Technology)Our aim is to engage students, professionals and the general public in ensuring that Technology, as a valuable & excellent product of Education & Research, is guided by Society to be enjoyed and experienced as part of culture, entertainment and everyday life. The name ‘CREST’ is to inspire synergetic collaboration that will induce joyful living on a livable planet Earth.

Alumni Association: Students who successfully complete the degree course through this college become members of the Alumni Association.

Gymkhana

The College gymkhana is meant for promoting different types of games, sports, health and personality development. It consists of President - Principal (Ex - Officio), Chairman - Director of Physical Education, General Secretary, Gymkhana Secretary.

Environmental CellThe Environment Cell aims at making students responsible towards the environment and creates awareness about the various issues concerning the environment.

Red Ribbon ClubThe Red Ribbon club is concerned with various aspects of HIV/AIDS such as creating awareness about the disease among the youth and eliminating the stigma against people with disease. The club also promotes voluntary blood donation among the youth.

Health CellThe Health Cell aims at making the students, teaching and non-teaching staff health conscious by organizing various activities such as Health camps and talks related to health and nutrition.

PublicationsThe various publications brought out by the college showcase the writing talent and reflective thoughts of the students and faculty members.

Anchor – This is the college peer reviewed in-house-e-journal. All Research articles contributed by staff and students from within and outside Goa are published in the ISSN numbered journal.

Surge – This is the annual magazine of the College.
