• Five year GIS Project (2000‐2005)– Combined City and PUC solution – an advanced, multi‐enterprise 

Integrated Geomatics Solution (IGS)– Complete GIS data capture and conversion with all digital 

resources and paper documents captured and converted from engineering plans and service drawings with field verification

– Touted as most comprehensive municipal GIS solution in North America

– Completed on schedule, scope and budget

Lewis Wheelan

Vulnerable Persons Registry• A North American first – a voluntary registry for vulnerable 

citizens that informs police, fire and utilities • Project has changed how emergency management works and 

how agencies work together to serve vulnerable citizens• Inspired by a Lewis Whelan – a young man from SSM that 

passed away in the major blackout of 2003• SSMIC has signed an MoU with the Canadian Red Cross and will 

be involved in the Canadian roll‐out of the solution
