Our Philosophy

• Our school’s vision is to develop pupils into Motivated Learners, Critical Thinkers and Leaders of Character.

• The school’s mission is to develop pupils into life-long learners and responsible citizens through a well-rounded education.

• Our vision and mission are supported by six core school values (WEGR2O) – Wise, Enterprising, Gracious, Responsible, Resilient and Open – which we strive to achieve through our learning and participation in school programme.

Why are we doing this project?

• To equip ourselves with important life skills such as

teamwork and responsibility

• To learn how to apply thinking and decision-making

skills

• To strengthen our leadership character

• To achieve school’s Vision, Mission and Values

• To develop the 3Cs (curiosity, confidence and

cooperation)

Our StakeholdersStakeholders Benefits/ Impact

Parents Parent will benefit from or project as our game is cheap and parents

can save money.

It will also promote bonding and interaction with friends, parents and

teachers as anyone (all age groups) can play the game. Parents do

not have to spend hundreds of dollars on I-pad games to keep their

children engaged and occupied.

Our parents observed that we enjoyed the project work and we had

become more confident in working with our peers.

Teachers The game is portable and easily assessable. It can be placed in

every classroom to develop thinking skills in pupils.

Works closely with our teachers and builds stronger bonds with

them.

Teachers act as facilitators and offers suggestions and guidance.

Children Children will have better eyesight. Myopia is on the rise die to

excessive use of touchscreen devices which can harm children’s

eyesight. They will also be better focused and less distracted with

their school work.

Scenario

Parents were shocked to find out that excessive use of touchscreen devices like i-pads and smartphones can hamper a child‘s development and lead to many harmful effects.

Our group chose to work on task 3 as it allows us to design and invent a toy/game.

Page 11: P3 Integrative Project Work: A Healthier Me, A Healthier ...€¦ · Fishbone Diagram Causes Solutions We did not do enough research, hence, could only come up with limited ideas

Task 3- Design & Invent ‘Go Green’

• To help parents save cost by designing and creating a safe, low-cost educational toy game for children to play with.

• Our game is also environmentally friendly and cost effective as we used mostly recyclable materials to create our game.

• Our game is created with the intent of developing mathematical thinking skills in pupils.

We came up with rules for the group tofollow to avoid and prevent potentialarguments.

We sometimes argue amongourselves while doing theproject.

Solution Selection

• We used the decision making template to evaluate the pros and cons of the possible games we had brainstormed on.

• After using the decision making tool for all the games, we chose the DIY Ping Pong Toss game as it more pros than cons.

• Hence, our final decision was the Ping Pong Toss game.

Our Research

Page 32: P3 Integrative Project Work: A Healthier Me, A Healthier ...€¦ · Fishbone Diagram Causes Solutions We did not do enough research, hence, could only come up with limited ideas

Harmful effects of the IPad?

We conducted research and found out the following:

• direct human-human interaction is reduced

• affects eyesight due to bright LED light glare

• harmful radiation

• increased obesity due to lack of physical activity

• decreases a child’s language development, social

and problem- solving skills

Page 33: P3 Integrative Project Work: A Healthier Me, A Healthier ...€¦ · Fishbone Diagram Causes Solutions We did not do enough research, hence, could only come up with limited ideas

Our Ping Pong Toss Game

• Green colour is

relaxing for the eyes

• Promotes interaction

between players

• Questions to promote

thinking skills in player

• Allows player to

engage in physical

activity

Page 34: P3 Integrative Project Work: A Healthier Me, A Healthier ...€¦ · Fishbone Diagram Causes Solutions We did not do enough research, hence, could only come up with limited ideas

Why is our project innovative?

• The solutions are we were able to modify and adapt current ideas

and come up with a more innovative way of making the Ping Pong Toss

using only recycled materials, thus fulfilling the task requirements.

• Differentiated questions with different number of points were

created to target a range of children from ages 7- 12 and to make

the game more engaging.

Problems and Solutions

Problems Solutions

Sometimes, my teammembers do not focus onthe task.

We reminded each other to focus on the task at hand andencouraged them to participate.

The decision-makingtemplate was hard tocomplete.

We discussed with each other first.

We asked our teachers for help when we did not understandwhat to do.

We used glue to stick thepudding cups to thecardboard but the cupswere not secured properlyand kept falling off.

Hence we decided to use a glue gun with our teacher’sassistance. We had to gather all the materials we needed tobuild our Ping Pong Toss model.

We used cardboard pieceswhich are of recycledmaterial to build ourentire model.

As we are only kids, money was an issue for us. Thus, we triedour best to use recycled materials instead of store-boughtmaterials.

This way, it was also eco-friendly and also fulfilled our taskrequirement of creating an environmentally friendly game.

Impact on Stakeholders

Stakeholders Reflection

Group Members We felt excited to see our final product

Now we know more about the process of designing and inventing.

We also learnt how to communicate our findings throughpresentation using PowerPoint Slides.

Other Primary 3 children who played the game

They felt excited to try out our game

They enjoyed the game, especially the answering differentiatedquestions we had prepared.

Facilitating Teacher: Miss Shaalini

I am incredibly proud of the work The Resilient Warriors hadproduced. Their game is innovative and engaging. They were able toapply the thinking sills used to come up with their project. Theyfaced teething problems in the beginning as they were unsure howto go about doing their design and invent task. They also had somedisagreements amongst each other on the direction of the project. However, they worked through their challenges with determinationand resilience.

Our parents Our parents are very proud of our work.

They think we did a wonderful job.

Page 42: P3 Integrative Project Work: A Healthier Me, A Healthier ...€¦ · Fishbone Diagram Causes Solutions We did not do enough research, hence, could only come up with limited ideas

Impact to School• We have met all our targets and completed a successful project work.• Our targets have also met the school’s vision, mission and values.

• Our school’s KPIs with regards to Project Work are as follows:

85% of pupils to attain at least a ‘C’ grade in Project Work80% of pupils to attain at least a ‘B’ grade in Project Work80% of pupils to attain at least a ‘B’ grade for applying thinking skills

• As we have achieved an A grade for all components of project work, we have contributed to our school’s KPI for Project Work.

3Cs School Vision

Feedback from parents

Parent of Enzo Enzo enjoyed his project work journey. He

has become more confident in voicing his

opinions and has learnt to work in groups.

Parent of Zelia Project Work is excellent. Learning to work

with her group members has made my child

become independent. As a group, they learn

how to move towards the same goal and

successful path. Team bonding makes the

pupils care about each other and to not be

selfish. Pupils learn to work hand in hand

and PW allows them to develop critical

thinking skills that will benefit them in

future.

Future Plans

Page 48: P3 Integrative Project Work: A Healthier Me, A Healthier ...€¦ · Fishbone Diagram Causes Solutions We did not do enough research, hence, could only come up with limited ideas

We would improve on our project in the following ways:

• Convince people that our game is interesting and cost effective through advertising. We could have created a poster to entice people to try out our game.

• Research and present our findings about the rise of myopia in younger children and how children as young as 5 year olds are starting to wear spectacles to correct their vision.

• We can make our game more attractive
