When processing requirements necessitate a lower periph- eral speed, this may be accomplished by a slower speed motor. All models are water jacketed for either heating or cool- ing. Processing temperature rise can range from 1° to 75°F depending on product and gap setting. The temperature rise can be reduced as much as 40°F if cooling water is used. Rotors and Stators are available in the following materials: The gap between the Rotor and Stator may be controlled at any point between .001" to .040" by moving adjusting dial handle. The above method of adjustment is an exclusive Gaulin Design and may be used whether machine is oper- ating or not. This is accomplished by assembling Mill shaft and bearings in a cartridge, the cartridge having microm- eter threads on outer surface. This cartridge is rotated by use of gear teeth at the base of adjusting dial mating with teeth on the cartridge. Adjustment of dial turns cartridge forwards or backwards thus moving Rotor in relation to Stator. Recalibration for zero adjustment may be made in minutes, if required. The Rotary Shaft Seal utilizes a carbon sealing surface against a polished hard chrome rotor bushing. The seal is a pressure balanced type utilizing the back pressure on the Mill to provide the seating force. Mill Shaft is permanently aligned by thrust and radial bearings. The Gaulin Mill design permits rapid disassembly of all wetted parts by removing the front cover and rotor nut; the remaining components may then be removed from the Mill body without the use of tools. The Mills are mounted on an integral cast base permitting them to be operated at any desired location without bolting. Accessory equipment is available for the 2" or 4" Mill and consists of a 3-way valve, stainless steel by-pass tubing and stainless steel tank. This is available for Laboratory work. Rotor Stator St'd. When processing requirements necessitate a lower periph-eral speed, this may be accomplished by a slower speed motor.

All models are water jacketed for either heating or cool-ing. Processing temperature rise can range from 1° to 75°F depending on product and gap setting. The temperature rise can be reduced as much as 40°F if cooling water is used.

Rotors and Stators are available in the following materials:

The gap between the Rotor and Stator may be controlled at any point between .001" to .040" by moving adjusting dial

handle. The above method of adjustment is an exclusive Gaulin Design and may be used whether machine is oper-ating or not. This is accomplished by assembling Mill shaft and bearings in a cartridge, the cartridge having microm-eter threads on outer surface.

OPERATIONAL FLOW PATTERN (2F and 4D only) Product flows by gravity or may be pumped through inlet connection „(A) coming in contact with rotor (B) and is forced through first stage processing gap (C) by' high inear impellers on front face of Rotor (B). These impellers, in addi-tion to their intensive shearing action, furnish a pumping force to move product across the per-iphery of the rotor (B). After traversing the per-iphery of the rotor (B), the product flow direction is reversed so that it is counter current to centri-fugal force. The product then flows inward across the second stage area between Rotor (B) and Stator (D) and is discharged through outlet open-ing (E).

GAP SETTING VERSUS WATER CAPACITY

GRAPH No. 1 Graph No. 1 is a straight water capacity versus gap setting curve for the 2F, 4D, and 8D Mills using a 1 foot head with no discharge pressure and Rotor Speed of 10,000 ft./min. Warning: When discharge increases, feed pressure must be in-creased to maintain capacity.

Graph No. 2 shows the effect of viscosity on capacity at various gap settings. Viscosities in this graph are Newtonian. Product viscosity should be determined at a high rate of shear. If a high shear viscometer is not available, an instrument such as the Brookfield will indicate whether the viscosity tends to reduce with increasing rates of shear.

Capacities given in this graph are for the 2F Mill. To obtain capacity of the 4D Mill, multiply value obtained from the graph by 3.5; and for the 8D Mill, by 12. As an example, a product having a viscosity of 300 cps. and requiring a .005" gap setting for satisfactory results would have a capac-ity of 12.5 GPH on thp 2F Mill. For the 4D Mill, the capacity would be 44 GPH (3.5 x 12.5) and for the 8D Mill, 150 GPH. It should be understood that these figures are only approximate. since both gap setting and viscosity affect the actual capacity. However, for all practical purposes, they will be satisfactory.

DESIGN AND PROCESSING FEATURES High Shear Energy Application through Counter Flow Principle reduces friction loss and HP waste. More useful work on product for lower horsepower.

Completely Closed Design permits operation in pressure system resulting in No Air Incorporation or Foaming of product. Sanitary Design allows sterile operation.

Dial Adjustment permits Particle Size Control while operating. Pressure Balanced Seal keeps seal wear to a minimum with no leakage.

Water Jacketed Mill Body provides temperature control for product

being processed.

Compact Low Profile, horizontal design minimizes feed and installation

problems with complete absence of vibration.

Simplicity of Design permits flush cleaning or complete disassembly with equal ease.
